All right, accepted. You are the only male Revolutionary. Be sure to check out the discussion thread.

Now we need more Imperials!

Hi, I'm new to roleplaying in general so if one you could explain any unspoken rules or point me to a link that would be helpful. I like focusing on the story aspect so I'll be using four characters; two revolutionaries and two imperials (along with a few side characters). I'll have their bios' up shortly.

[up] Uhhh, not sure if any links exist but...

Roleplaying is restricted in a few ways, depending on the game. Many games will enforce restrictions via a system, like a D&D game or any other stat-based game. This is a more free-form game, where the final law is Parable's word, and not much else. Everything else is dependent mainly upon you being a good, realistic, considerate roleplayer.

In general, Godmodding is never allowed. Absolutely not. This is when someone without authority, as in someone who is not running the game(like a GM), exerts control over other characters and/or the world when they do not have that power. An example would be making a post such as: " My character shoots your character. Your character is killed."

This can be a rather tricky subject. You have control over your characters and their actions, but not those of other characters. So, in the example above, it should be written: " My character shoots at your character." Then leave the effect up to whoever is responsible, either the GM or that character's player.

Problems start coming in a lot here, because bad roleplayers will often respond, " My character dodges all your bullets." or something similar, and then you get to weird issues... it's best just not to approach the subject.

Overall, be polite. This will mitigate the amount of misunderstandings and hopefully resolve those that do occur.

There are other rules, but I can't really think of any. Anybody else got some?

Your legacy shall drift away, blown into eternity, like the sands of the desert.

Okay, after taking into account advice heres' my character.

Name: Preston Marlowe

Sex: Male

Age: 30

Appearance: Medium height, unremarkable face with stubble, blue eyes, brown hair, and a fairly muscled body. Wears a grey uniform with non-regulation black trimmings. He has a regulation issue Imperial laser rifle, sidearm and two long knives for close combat. Also possesses some plasma and frag grenades.

Allegiance: Imperial

History: Born to a lower-middle class family, Marlowe was raised to be an ardent supporter of the Empress on Tyronii. Joined the army as a way to escape an abusive father. Was glad when said father was arrested for subversive activities. When his company rebelled against the Empress (for arresting their own people) he played along until he locked them out of the arms locker. Partially responsible for putting down the mutiny on Tyronii and keeping it in Imperial hands, he was promoted. Has been fighting the revolutionaries for the past four years and has reached the rank of sergeant. He and his squad were transferred over to the fighting in Ayanon after a mysterious incident involving a noble officers latrine and several pounds of explosives.

Personality: Believes that a strong ruler is needed for Verendi to prosper but he will follow orders to the letter except when they conflict with what he sees as the Imperial spirit. Will not kill prisoners unless absolutely necessary but is. He and his squad are experienced soldiers and Marlowe feels a sense of camaraderie with them. Largely indifferent towards the nobility but won't hesitate to take them down a notch for stuffiness, hubris and... the list kinda goes on. But since said incidents are always non-fatal an invariably funny (even to nobles not involved in them), they are largely tolerated due to their experience.

Other information: fights the enemy by using his head and improvises surprises from common materials. Doesn’t smoke and barely drinks but knows how to use them for good effect on the battlefield...

So, you mentioned being new to role playing?

Yeah, I've been lurking for the last couple of years and just signed up a few days ago. I discovered the Roleplay threads last week and went on a massive archive binge. Started on the "Game of Gods" series (the villanous spinoff was my favourite), almost finished "The Imperium of Man comes to Gensokyo" and is halfway through "Wizards vs Muggles". I've read a lot of stuff but I have little practical experience. I was thinking of joining one of them when I saw this new roleplay start, I liked the premise so yeah here I am. grin Since my characters are mostly in command positions would it be okay if most of the actual fight scenes were done by mooks and purple shirts? It'd give the other players a chance for badassery or get surprised themselves.

[up][up][up] Not a fan of godmodding either some scenes in Io Mct G were verging on asspull imo.

Oh yeah, how do you add links and white out any spoilers? Its not obvious on the screen.

[up] Spoilers are made like this: [[spoiler:Text goes here.]] What you get is something that looks like this. For some bonus points, you can use white text, like this: [[white: Text goes here]] What you get is this: I like white text, yes I do, I like white text, how about you?

Wiki words use CamelCase. For instance TVTropes becomes TV Tropes.

To add a link to a site outside TV Tropes, you do this: [[http://www.link.com Description of the link]]. So, I can do this: Blueberry Pie. Yum!

Well, allow me to welcome you to hell the world of TV Tropes roleplaying!

For the most part, tropers understand that roleplaying is supposed to be fun, but a word of warning, there are always a few Trolls, "Stop Having Fun" Guys, and the like out there, but thus far, this thread seems to be primarily people who are eager to help.

If you run into anyone who gives you grief, just ignore them, don't let their attitude spoil your fun, and remember that your account will be active long after they've been banned.

I was only reading W vs M, I don't want to get involved in too many rp's at once. Plus I'm not an all military otaku/expert or remember that much about harry potter magic (I hope that doesn't sound as rude as I think it does). I've got a question, how is the planning done? Is it discussed in the discussions page or do we pm the moderator? I've got a few possible ideas and scenarios/events running around in my head. Should I wait for Parable to confirm my characters or should I start posting? I don't want to get too left behind in the plot. Maybe I should post from the POV of mooks who are my characters' subordinates.

I let Luka go in as a captain since we were short players at the time. I would prefer no other characters go into command positions with the exception of being captains of a star ship.

Out of curiosity, what's the aesthetic of the setting? Is it something like this, or this, or maybe this? Yeah, I'm a huge nerd.

[up] Closest thing is probably the war flashbacks from Firefly. The Imperials resemble the Britannians from Code Geass somewhat, except much more sympathetic. Instead of racist overlords, they're just like normal aristocrats.

IRL, the closest thing would be the American Civil War mixed with the Russian Revolution.

In the end, it doesn't really fit the aesthetic of any of those. Its gritty and realistic, despite the mechs and the swords. Both sides are sympathetic, and all characters will be slogging it out in inglorious, ignoble combat while their comrades die inglorious, ignoble deaths. Both sides are fighting for a cause they believe in(which is similar to Code Geass, except it's nigh-impossible to sympathize with the Britannians as a whole) and both sides use dirty, dishonorable tactics to fight for those causes.

As an overall theme, War Is Hell is probably the best example.

EDIT: Aesthetically, it doesn't mesh very well with any of those. Firefly's flashbacks, specifically the one to the urban combat, are the closest to how I picture it, but overall: Code Geass is very flashy and ornate and has a bright color scheme, which doesn't fit very well with the combat parts(although it could fit excellently for untarnished Imperial aesthetics). Firefly's " Spaceships and Cowboys" design doesn't seem to fit very well, maybe in certain rural areas of the Empire, but there doesn't seem to be much action happening there. Star Wars... hmmm. While the theme is completely off(this definitely isn't a Space Opera) some of the aesthetics do fit. If you made Star Wars ten times less shiny and heroic, then it might look something like this.

the Aurelian Guard due to his experience.

I believe I mention something about keeping everyone as regular military for now.

[up][up] That first one is good for inside a star ship, but right now everyone is planetside. The second one would look good on somewhere that isn't a warzone and is probably more Imperial leaning. I cannot make out where they are in that third one.

I think this is looking like where we're at right now.

Interestingly enough, when you guys aren't in uniform, Verandi clothing was largely inspired by what they wear in this. No, not the bikinis and lingerie, keep scrolling down! The guys show up in the middle.

That's what you guys looked like before you started killing each other.

  • Name: Cordec Malacai
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 24
  • Appearance: Cordec Malacai is ID no.342 in a mental hospital. His facial features are similar to that of a typical young GIRL!! In appearance, he is your average Beautiful Bishojo you'd be able to marry on a dating sim (The long silky hair and bubbly eyes doesn't help). But seeing just WHAT he actually is would DEFINITELY be another story. As of now he is wearing a Prisoner's Jacket as we speak.
  • Allegiance: Imperial (Or...imperial born at least)
  • History: Cordec Malacai was born as a mental patient in Vermillion with a really bad case of amnesia. He picked his nose one day while he was streaking when suddenly, he got hit by an anvil and Suffered from a coma and woke up in prison for 2 years. Other than such recent information of his history, his further backstory is unknown. He took an IQ exam and is released from prison and is given a credit card with enough credits to make a living.
  • Personality: Cordec Malacai is a third-person person who can change his mood under his own will. He's an ordinary person if he so chooses for example and can become one to brave death if the situation applies. This "power" allows him to face high levels of confusion that a "sane" man would likely lose his hat. His "gift" however makes him susceptible to Head trauma and a randomized sleep schedule. Cordec Malacai is not curious about his past therefore it is easy to discipline his psyche and adapt in any situation he so chooses. But speaking of his current situation, he has no time to be easygoing due to his lack of a home, friends, and a job and he knows it.
  • Other information: Cordec Malacai is an alias and knows enough Hybrid Martial Arts to best a Shell-Shocked Veteran with a crowbar. This makes up for the fact that he has little left in his current life.

If there's anything I need to modify let me know...I'm desperate on role-playing SOMETHING right now.. Also, I've never participated in a role-play before...

Oh and...uhh...sorry for..barging in like an ass. I should be more polite...

Ah... Hmm, I'd really like to sign up as a revolutionary. Are there still any spots left for them? It looks like you've had a couple more Imperial characters to balance it out... I'll just put a signup sheet here anyway, but... This looks really interesting. I'd definitely like to join. ^_^

  • Name: Angelo Kelly
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Angelo is of about average height for his age, with dark blue eyes and shoulder-length black hair that he habitually wears in a ponytail. He's a little bit more muscular than you might expect, and he has a very nice smile.
  • Allegiance: Revolutionary
  • History: Born in Seralon as the second son of a fisherman and... fisherwoman, Angelo was four years old when the revolutionary movement began stirring. His parents were heavily involved in the movement, and they groomed both Angelo and his older brother Alessio to become members of the movement later on. By the time the war broke out, Alessio was old enough to fight for the revolutionary movement, and left home to join the Greens. Four years later, and Angelo is finally old enough in the eyes of his parents to do the same. With the blessing of his parents, friends and acquaintances, he joined up and began his new life as a soldier.
  • Personality: Angelo tries to be like his brother and parents; focused, intelligent, determined, and trusting absolutely in the ideals of the revolution. Take a closer look at him, though, and you'll see that he doesn't exactly hold up to the ideal of the perfect soldier. His belongings are always a little slapdash, he laughs far too much, and although he can shoot well , he always hesitates before pulling the trigger. He is at heart a very gentle, friendly person, and although he tries to pretend otherwise, his allegiance with the revolutionaries is based less on his own ideals and more on the hope that, if he helps bring down the Empire, he will be able to find Alessio and bring him back home, allowing their family to leave a happy, peaceful, simple life. He has a rather odd sense of humour, and he hates being alone.
  • Other information: Angelo loves the sea and everything to do with it, having lived there his whole life. He tends to be a little bit messy, and he has a tendency to hum or sing when he is not talking or concentrating. That makes it fairly easy to tell when he isn't concentrating. As said above, he's a good shot with a rifle, and like most teenagers, he tends to show off, but when he's actually asked to shoot at a human, he will always hesitate for a split second. Strangely or not, his reaction time is much better when he's being asked to run away or shoot at an object or animal.
