Of all the aspects that rule human nature, hard it is to find one more common than their aspiration to reach higher.

And it is such a desire that which brought about the festival of heroes that rises in city.

A handful of ambitious humans, who dabble in the true occult arts of their time sought the way to rise into the realm of the Lord called forth the spirits of mankind greatest heroes to do battle for the Holy Cup of legend... The Holy Grail.

They sought this Holy relic to have the wishes buried deep within their hearts granted upon this Earth.

However, the powers above had other plans.

And so... I was called forth from the Lord's side. To bring forth Holy Justice and Order to this forbidden ritual.

That night... In the Catacombs beneath the Maiden Sainte Cathedral a ritual made in secret... produced an incredibly unexpected result.

In front of the Magus appeared a young woman clad in armor. She spoke with the power of an overwhelming presence and conviction... And declared that control over the ritual had been taken from their hands.

Declaring it a Holy ritual she explained the new rules before casting them out from the Cathedral, making them all scramble for the safety of the shadows.

It is now a few days after that fateful night... and the word has spread to all winds. Of how in the city of Saint-Marie-Sur-La-Loire the spirits of humanities greatest heroes walk unseen. Of how a War has begun that will end with only the best in the world, from both past and present, emerging victorious.

The Holy Grail War has begun.

Asteon shifted his gaze back over his shoulder to his servant. "Huh? Going back home. It's freezing out here. Middle of the night. I want back in my bed."

The recently summoned David was bewildered. There was little doubt that the boy in front of him was his master but the King could not comprehend his actions.

"Please remain for a moment master. I am of the Archer class, King David of Isr- MASTER, PLEASE WAIT!"

Heedless of his servants pleas, Asteon unparked his bicycle, shifting it onto the dirt path back into civilization. David helplessly dematerialized and followed his new master on his bicycle. Pedalling back against the cold night wind, Asteon headed back to his temporary five bedroom home.

"I ask of you... Are you my Ma-"

...Waaaiiit a minute, something's not right here.

This was the Holy Grail War, right? It sure felt like it... But... Something was rather off...

"...Where is... My Master?"

Arturia Pendragon. In the legends of Britain, she was known as the great King Arthur. Even outside her country of origin, her reknown was absolute. Barely a single person was ignorant of the legend of King Arthur, of Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table, of the Grail Quest and the Sword In The Stone, of mighty Excalibur, greatest of all swords...

...Excalibur. Her sword, her legend, something that would identify her to anyone who saw it. And it was in plain sight.

"What the devil? What... What is this?"

The Invisible Air... Where was it? And somehow... She knew not why, but the sword felt... Weaker, like it lacked the magic it usually had. How could this...

The King of Knights closed her eyes and took a moment to reflect.

...Rider? But... But I am Saber! I can only be summoned as... As Saber...

But no, here she was. Arturia the Rider. Arturia, with Excalibur out in the open for all to see.

Arturia without a Master.

She couldn't feel any mana connection. This... This was impossible! This isn't how the Grail War works! Servants fight for their Master, and... And...

...But if I have no Master, then... Does that mean...

...Not the King of Knights...

Yes. This... This was it. This was her chance, her final, greatest chance. To redeem herself for all her failings as a king, to give Britain the ruler it truly deserved, to claim the Grail for herself and make her wish. "If you walk down the path that you believe is right, you cannot be wrong." She remembered someone saying that. Someone... Someone important.

...So this was the path she would tread. The only path that lay ahead of her. Not as Saber. Not as the King of Knights.

No... This time around...

...She was Rider! The Heroic Spirit, Arturia Pendragon! And above all else, above every title and every name she held, she was but one thing...

THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING!

A young man wearing a simple suit, with short, dark brown hair, stands in the dim basement of a building. He stands by an odd diagram carved into the middle of the room... with the shed skin of a fossilized snake in the middle of said diagram.

"Ye first, O silver, O iron.... O stone of the foundation, O Archduke of the Contract...Hear me in the name of our great teacher, the Archmagus Schweinorg..."

The young man speaks the words with his eyes closed, and his right arm stretched forward.

"Let the descending winds be as a wall...Let the gates in all directions be shut, rising above the crown...and let the three-forked roads to the Kingdom revolve...."

The diagram begins to glow gently... almost as if responding the young's man's words like a child does to their mother.

"Shut. Shut. Shut. Shut. Shut.... Five perfections for each repetition...And now, let the filled sigils be annihilated in my stead! Set..... Let thy body rest under my dominion, let my fate rest in thy blade...."

The already glowing diagram begins to glow even brighter... as if it is waiting desperately for the man to finish speaking.

"If thou submittest to the call of the Holy Grail and if thou wilt obey this mind, this reason, then thou shalt respond...I make my oath here...I am that person who is to become the virtue of all Heavens...I am that person who is covered with the evil of all Hades....Thou seven heavens, clad in a trinity of words...come past thy restraining rings..."

The young man then opens his eyes, and yells, "...and be thou the hands that protect the balance-!"

Soon as the young man finishes, the diagram glows brightly... and something crashes down upon it. Smoke filters up as the young man covers his eyes with his arms.

"Ha... I've done it... I've summoned him... I've summoned Gilgamesh," says Lucas as he looks into the smoke.

"Hmph... petty commoner..." says a strange feminine voice.

"Wait a second... did I just hear a woman's voice...?" asks the young man to himself as he raises an eyebrow, glaring at the figure in the smoke.

Standing before him, is a blonde long-haired woman clad in gold, along with a slightly revealing shirt. Staring at Lucas with crimson red eyes, she raises a hand and points a finger at him.

"Why yes, you stupid rat, I am indeed a woman. I am from the class Archer, and my true identity is Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes... Now then, bow down before your master you filthy commoner!"

It is currently past midnight and the neighbors were fast asleep. The man named Gerard Heisenberg stands on the edge of a magic circle drawn in rooster blood, in the middle of which is an aged scroll.

Thou seven heavens, clad in a trinity of words...come past thy restraining rings... ...and be thou the hands that protect the balance.

A brilliant light shines inside an initially dimly-lit apartment room. The magus shields his eyes from the light and waits for the light to subside.

In the middle of the circle stands a tall, blonde man with unkempt hair, holding a spear and shield in his hands.

Gerard Heisenberg smiles at the sight of the hero.

The Servant says with a resounding and dignified voice —

"I have come forth in accordance to your summons. I ask of you, are you my master?"

"Ye first, O silver, O iron, O stone of the foundation, O Archduke of the Contract."

My magic circuits are blasting at full strength. The dam has been lowered, and I feel the rush as the pure energy courses through me.

"Hear me in the name of our great teacher, the Archmagus Schweinorg, Let the descending winds be as a wall, Let the gates in all directions be shut, rising above the crown, and let the three-forked roads to the Kingdom revolve."

I stare ahead at the circle in front of me. An old piece of cloth rests at its center, the sarashi of the greatest woman to even set foot on the field of battle.

"Shut. Shut. Shut. Shut. Shut. Five perfections for each repetition. And now, let the filled sigils be annihilated in my stead!"

This. This feels great. This power is better than anything I feel in a fight. I could sit here like this forever, but I have something I must do, so it must end.

"Set. Let thy body rest under my dominion, let my fate rest in thy blade."

Yes. Rest under my dominion, become the one to serve me.

"If thou submittest to the call of the Holy Grail and if thou wilt obey this mind, this reason, then thou shalt respond. I make my oath here."

I will in turn give you all you need. I will be yours as you shall be mine. You and I are going to take on the world.

"I am that person who is to become the virtue of all Heavens. I am that person who is covered with the evil of all Hades. Thou seven heavens, clad in a trinity of words, come past thy restraining rings, and be thou the hands that protect the balance-!"

Silence. Then slowly from the shadow, a kneeling figure rises. Armor clatters as it, as she stands. She approaches me, and her face comes into the light.

"I ask of you..."

Snow white skin, and long straight hair, black as night. Her armor is a beautiful deep red.

"...are you my Master?"

I stand up, my body is drenched with sweat, that ritual took it out of me. "Yes. I am Amagi Chie, your Master. In accordance with the contract, what is your class and identity?"

She immediately bows in respect to me. "I am Servant Lancer, once known as Tomoe Gozen, the great onna-bugeisha."

"Heh."

Lancer looks at me inquisitively. "Master?"

"Hehehehe."

Lancer frowns, she's obviously not pleased by my sudden joviality. "Master, why are you laughing?"

"Hehe, I'm sorry it's just that. I've always dreamt of meeting you and... you're finally here. I've always wanted to learn from you..." I wipe a tear from my eye. "I thought I could stay calm and be a proper Master but... Tomoe. Let's do this together. I know I'm no great fighter like you, but let's do this as partners."

Lancer smiles and nods. "It seems I've found an agreeable master. I shall aid you well, Amagi-sama."

An East Asian man in his late teens was in an unknown dark room. He wore a black windbreaker with a hoodie on, jeans and Oakley-type SF boots. He was greeted by a Caucasian voice with a bit of a French accent.

"I see that you've arrived, Mark Liu."

"Sir." Mark greeted the voice by bowing a bit, hands at his side. The lights to the room brightened up a bit slowly, enough to see him and the Frenchman. He had a Caucasian complexion, blonde hair, was in his late 40s and had worn a brown suit and red tie with black oxford shoes.

Why did Jacque Pechenard, the CEO of Trans Global Specialists Inc's French branch want me here?

"So are you aware of the Holy Grail War?" Jacque asked Mark when he closed the door.

"A little bit from my magus training." He then saw the man placed some hair in a magical circle. "And what is that?"

"We'll be summoning a servant for the Holy Grail War taking place in Saint-Marie-Sur-La-Loire." Jacque told Mark. "This is a secret mission that not even the board of directors know."

"What?" Mark was confused. "But why?"

"To make sure that there won't be any potential traitors."

"I understand." The Filipino-Canadian sighed. If I recall, a few of the TGS officials are familiar with the Grail Wars. I'm not sure from where though...

"Let's start the ritual." Jacques told Mark. "And I have the needed things for that."

"Anything else?" Mark asked.

"No. Let's start."

Mark sighed, stretched his hands and legs before he began to stretch his arms towards the circle before the Asian began to speak.

"Ye first, O silver, O iron. O stone of the foundation, O Archduke of the Contract. Hear me in the name of our great teacher, the Archmagus Schweinorg."

He felt something different. Something that he didn't feel before.

"Hear me in the name of our great teacher, the Archmagus Schweinorg. Let the descending winds be as a wall. Let the gates in all directions be shut, rising above the crown, and let the three-forked roads to the Kingdom revolve."

Mark saw that the magical circle was lighting up.

"Shut. Shut. Shut. Shut. Shut. Five perfections for each repetition. And now, let the filled sigils be annihilated in my stead!."

The magical circle's lighting up like a damn Christmas tree.

"Set. Let thy body rest under my dominion, let my fate rest in thy blade. If thou submittest to the call of the Holy Grail and if thou wilt obey this mind, this reason, then thou shalt respond."

"It's working." Jacques murmured, seeing the circle brighten up even more.

"I make my oath here. I am that person who is to become the virtue of all Heavens. I am that person who is covered with the evil of all Hades."

"It's now or nothing..."

"Thou seven heavens, clad in a trinity of words, come past thy restraining rings, and be thou the hands that protect the balance-!."

Suddenly, a bright flash of light engulfed the magical circle for a few seconds before it showed a man who slowly stood up. Mark could tell that he had a Southeast Asian complexion, complete with loincloth and a cloth headband.

"Are you the one who summoned me?" The man asked Mark, waiting for an answer.

"Indeed." Mark replied, nodding. "I will assume that you're of the Saber class?"

"Yes." The man nodded. "Known as the hero Lapu-Lapu. The first Philippine hero for resisting European attempts to enter Mactan."

"Welcome to the 21st century." Mark greeted Lapu-Lapu, nodding his head at him. "My name's Mark Liu and it's interesting to see someone who's a national hero in the flesh."

"So what's the first order, master?"

"Don't call me Master. For now."

The morning sun angled with the blinds in such a way that the rays of light managed to wiggle its way to Asteon's eyes. The mage tossed around in bed, trying to be rid of the intruder to his sleep. Hopefuly, the sun would move along its merry way within five minutes.

Archer decided to wake him. "Master, it's morning. Please wake up."

Asteon was startled awake and was almost shouting. "W-who are you? I'm calling the cops!"

"Master... I'm your servant, Archer. Have you forgotten?"

Finally realizing who this person was, Asteon's heartrate went down. "Oh... Yeah.. Right, I TOTALLY knew that." Asteon rubbed his eyes a little and checked his phone. 8 O clock or so. He collapsed back onto bed, calming his heart down a bit more.

"Master?"

"Five more hours."

Five hours later, master and servant were looking through pictures of Asteon's fiancé together on his phone. Asteon browsed through the pictures of her in various poses in a maid outfit. David watched over his shoulder and blushed furiously.

"She's pretty cute, isn't she? We're getting married once I'm of age."

David couldn't pull his eyes off the pictures. "I-I see... Both your parents approve?"

"Yep. She's a talented mage too. Origin of Dragon and elemental affinity of wind. I asked her to do some poses in this outfit on a date back in England. She was a bit embarassed but that's the best part."

Master-Servant bonding continued for another hour.

The wind was blowing gently from the west as the Servant looked from the roof out upon the city. The cloak he was wearing was just heavy enough to move slowly, not enough to truly be considered a cape.

Avenger, the Servant who should not be, was keeping a look out. He was looking for anything that should not exist in a normal city.

Most servant battles occur at night, because they wish for no witnesses. It doesn't really matter.

The average witness wouldn't understand what they had seen and could not be counted on as a credible threat. So Avenger discounted the concern. Although his particular skills might draw attention, as bombs going off tended to do that. A pity he did not have the Assassins skill of concealment, but he would make do. The Archer skill he did have was somewhat better, as it did not stretch his mana supply.

He was currently overlooking part of the local amusement park, although he didn't think any Servant would take up refuge here.

"Excuse me?" said a slightly irritated Lucas.

A servant, that he summoned, was calling herself the master, and was insulting him?

"First of all... I'm the master, and you're the servant, King of Heroes. I'm not going to tolerate having a servant, who's a foul mouth, tell me that they are the one that is in charge around here, especially one who's masquerading as the King of Uruk. Heck I'm pretty sure Gilgamesh was a man, and not a woman!"

Running his hand through his hair to try and calm himself down, he looked back at Archer, and at her chest.

"I'm also pretty sure those are fake," he said as he pointed to her breasts.

An eerie chill ran down his spine as his servant smiled...and promptly punched him in the side of the face.

"You worthless worm you!" said Archer as she leaped at him and grabbed the young man by his collar. "How dare you insult your King, you filthy peasant bastard!"

"Gaahh..." groaned Lucas as he felt the side of his face swell up.

"ANSWER ME DAMN YOU!" roared Archer as she shook him back and forth rapidly.

"I'm sorry I insulted you..." spoke Lucas between the shaking.

Pausing for a bit, Archer removed her hand from her dizzy master's collar, and allowed him to fall backwards onto the floor. After a few minutes, Lucas forced himself to sit up, and began to rub the side of his swore face.

"Well...that was rather...arduous..." Lucas stood up and stared at his enraged servant, who looked as if she would kill him herself, and tried to think of something that may calm her down.

"You have...really nice hair..." he said hesitantly, but honestly as he gaze at her luxurious, and lengthy, blonde hair.

Archer raised an angered eyebrow, "You're tricking me aren't you?"

"N-No, I'm not! It really is beautiful..." he said as he slowly placed a hand over her head, "M-M-May I stroke it...?"

Archer looked at his hand with distrust... "You may... but if you mess it up, I'll rip your petty arm off," and gave off a threatening response as she folded her arms.

Slowly, Lucas placed his hand on the King of Heroes' head, and began to gently stroke her hair... very cautiously as to not further irritate her.

"Ah, don't get all impatient. You've already kept me awake the entire night trying to look for enemy Servants or Masters. They won't appear that easily, considering it's only the first day of the war."

"Hmm. Ah, such cowardice has befallen the times!" The Servant plops himself down on the floor. Gerard turns towards him.

David's invisible spirit kept Asteon company as he biked over to the church, the overseer's residence for the duration of the war. As was tradition in the Fuyuki Grail War, the church dispatches an overseer to observe the war. A referee of sorts, to judge over the battles as an unrelated third party. There were several rules to ensure that the fight would not erupt catastrophically. Considering that seven legendary heroic spirits were to be gathered into a relatively small area, such caution was necessary.

Asteon pulled up off the cobblestone path. The buildings around the church were all built in the renaissance period, and the streets themselves were medieval-tier paving. All very romantic. All very French. David decided to take form behind Asteon as he locked up the bike to a fence.

"We are here to see the overseer Asteon?

"Yeah. I figure we should pay him a visit before we go off fighting and stuff. And don't worry about guarding my back or anything. The church is neutral ground."

This tidbit of knowledge did not assure David in the slightest. What did assure him was the cathedral. Majestic arches upheld the stone structure and light shone through mosaic paintings from all angles. A so called house of God.

"Wow. All we had in Isreal was a fancy tent."

Asteon shouted out to whoever could be in the church. "Is the overseer here?"

She turned around, and was rather puzzled to see a large statue of some strange, cat-like creature. Above the weird effigy was an even bigger sign, reading "Welcome to Brunestudland, Kingdom of the Moon!", with a smaller sign nailed underneath it reading "CONDEMNED".

Wait, is that...?

She finally saw where the source of mana she had sense was. Right at the back of the park, far past all of the gaudy rides and silly stalls, stood a majestic castle, its white spires reaching up into the heavens, its wall appearing to be constructed of marble. Her pacing gradually increased as she drew closer and closer to it, until she had broken into a full on run towards the castle.

If King Arthur's legendary seat of power had been viewed through a funhouse mirror, at the very least. She gazed on the citadel in awe, and came to an important decision.

She was so engrossed in the castle, though, that she hadn't sensed that there was another Servant nearby her...

The inside of the Church was just as magnificent as the outside... Beautiful stained glass windows depicting the works of a myriad of Saints and the Son of the Lord and long rows of stone pillars supported the whole structure. On a corner there was a giant organ which seemed old but in good condition... And rows upon rows of empty seats for the faithful to pray on.

However there was only one person occupying those seats right now. A young Asian woman, on the last of her teen days... with long black hair and equally dark eyes. She was dressed in some worn clothing, loose pants, short sleeved shirt secured by a belt and a pair of sandals lying on the ground at her feet besides a bag. She sat at ease on the armrest of one of the nearest seats, looking at the stained glass windows until Asteon called for the Overseer.

Her clear dark eyes then focused on the Master of Archer before she spoke "The Overseer is getting something for me. If you want to see her you must only wait for a while"

Mark had been dragged out by his Servant out of bed, reminding him that he had a job to do. Groaning in defeat, he agreed to get up and head out to the shower before he'll get dressed.

"Goddamn servant..."

The Asian had groaned as he was in the driver's seat of a 2012 Ashen Grey Metallic Chevrolet Camaro 2LS, wearing a black jacket with the drawing of a Japanese-made Type 90 at the back, semi-worn out jeans and Oakley SF 6 inch boots with the seat belt on. The Special Operations Unit agent had been just given the order to head out to the Maiden Sainte Cathedral in Saint-Marie-Sur-La-Loire to meet with the person in charge of the war. Never mind the fact that he can't speak fluent French in the city.

Least I got my French license, so it's not a problem.

Mark had been wondering why the CEO has a vested interest in the Holy Grail War. He remembered being debriefed from the Canadian, British Columbian subbranch that Jacques was familiar with the realm of magic, even though the evidence was said to be inconclusive. The SOU agent also remembered that TGS and SOU intelligence was not sure if the Mage's Association was real, calling the thought of any existing magic today just "rumors" and "a child's story". It seems that even the most elite unit doesn't believe in their existence at all. In fact, Mark wondered why he was chosen from the SOU when Jacques could have recruited someone else from outside TGS.

If the CEO has a different motive for participating in this war with the Grail and all, then I'll kill him with my own two hands. In fact, I'm not sure if I'll have orders to use it at all. Didn't someone try to do that in the last war?

Deciding not to bother with those thoughts for a while, Mark drove the Camaro a bit fast after switching gears while being careful not to go over the speed limit least the officers of the Police Nationale's Saint-Marie-Sur-La-Loire division will issue him a ticket.

"Better not be late."

He noted that Lapu-Lapu materialized in the front passenger seat, wearing a green windbreaker jacket, jeans and rubber shoes before putting on the seat belt.

"I didn't ask you to be here."

"It's for your safety, Mark." Lapu-Lapu insisted.

"Don't worry. The Cathedral's neutral territory, so no one's stupid to attack there unless we're in the outskirts."

"You really do have beautiful hair..." says Lucas as he pulls his hand back from Archer's head, looking a little worried.

"Hmm... you didn't seem to mess up my hair... nor did I sense lies in your voice..." speaks the golden knight as she touches her own hair.

Lucas gives off a small sigh in relief, "So, does that mean you accept me as your partner?"

"I thought this was going to be a 'master' and 'servant' relationship?"

"Ah..." Lucas swallowed hard, "I think being equal partners would be a whole lot better than us both wanting to be in control. It may cause difficulties working with one another...right?"

Narrowing her eyes, Archer gives Lucas a distrustful glare, and shakes her head. "No, I'm not about to lower myself so much that you, a dirty street rat, would be my equal."

"You're making this very difficult to come to a compromise..." spoke the young man as he placed his thumb and index finger on the bridge of his nose.

"I'm not, I'm simply saying that trash like yourself should get on their knees and bow to me. I'm the King of Heroes, and you should be treating me as such."

"Alright, alright... Jeez...." said Lucas as he got down onto one knee, "Your highness... I worship and praise you etcetera, etcetera... Happy?" Giving off a twitchy smile, Archer promptly kicks Lucas square in the chest, and proceeds up the basement stairs. "Gahh..." said a groveling Lucas as he placed his hand on his chest. "The hell was that... where are you going?"

"To go take a bath, since you touched me with your forsaken hands, and then go to sleep. You can stay there in that hole of your's like the rat you are." Archer made her way to the basement door, opened and went through it, and promptly slammed it shut...before placing a random chair underneath the door knob.

"...This is not what I had in mind when I found out that I had an item that belonged to Gilgamesh..." sighed Lucas as he laid down on the basement's cold floor. "I probably shouldn't blow up the door since I am renting this place out...and because that would only cause more unnecessary problems..." Just then, his stomach growled loudly "...and I probably should have had dinner before I summoned her."

"Commoner, get off your ass, it's time we went to see the overseer of this war!" barked Archer at the top of the basement stairs as she opened the door.

"...Can I at least take a quick shower, and grab something to eat?" groaned Lucas as he forced himself to sit up.

"Fine. If you're in worse shape than your status as a lowlife... then we will have some problems if we encounter any enemies on the way... Well, what are you waiting for? Hurry up you lazy mongrel!"

...I'm starting to regret my choice of a hero... thought the young man as he forced himself to stand up, and up the stairs.

After taking a quick shower, switching into new clothes, and grabbing something to eat, Lucas and Archer headed off towards the cathedral via a taxi.

"Jeez...would have been a lot easier if you would have just taken your spirit form..." whispered Lucas as he held the taxi door open.

"Quiet commoner, I'll do what I want, whenever I want, and however I want to do them," spoke Archer as she emerged from the opened door in a white fur coat, and a simple black shirt along with a knee-length black skirt underneath it.

Lucas gave off a small sigh, and looked up at the cathedral before them. "So this is where the overseer of this war will be located... It's neutral ground also, so try not to attack anyone Archer..."

"Hmph... If a worm dares to cross paths with me, then they will meet a fitting death..." said the blonde servant as she walked towards the church.

"At least try not to kill anyone..." sighed Lucas again as he followed behind her.

Hearing that comment the woman once again concentrated on the pair... though this time on David in particular. Her eyes looked like they could see just a bit deeper than normal people could, and she looked at the Servant from head to toe

"So, you are one of the heroes" She simply stated.

— Asteon —

David noticed that he was being spoken to and stiffly straightened his posture, facing the girl. "Umm. Yes ma'am. I'm King David of Isreal. Servant of The Lord and his d-divine will." He rushed the last few words and messed up his self-introduction. He gulped audibly. He dared not move his gaze away from a spot right above the girl's head.

Asteon rolled his eyes. His servant had quite a way with women. Not in the good way.

The door creaked open once again. A woman along with a guy a suit. The woman was gorgeous and looked as if she could be a model but walked with a posture of a knight. In comparison, the man behind her looked average in most ways imaginable. A standard caucasion man who looked almost dirty next to the woman.

David loosened and took a look at the new arrivals. A servant. He silently rebuked himself. He should've sensed the foe earlier but he was too focused on impressing the girl inside. An extremely foolish move that could have led to an early exit from the war. He quietly backed up to cover his master. Even though it was neutral ground, he wouldn't dare take a chance that could wind up fatal.

Asteon whispered. "I assume the woman's a servant?"

"Yes. be careful master."

The Camaro was parked at the outskirts of the Maiden Sainte Cathedral, instructing Lapu-Lapu to dematerialize as they were in neutral territory. Once the SOU agent got a Chicago PD ballcap worn over his head, Mark closed the door and locked it up with the electronic keylock as he walked towards the church.

Well I'm armed for this occasion, but I wonder if they'll notice it? I mean, there is a small chance that I'll be attacked.

Underneath Mark's jacket, he wore a shoulder holster with a Sarsilmaz K2-45 pistol holstered

due to the "nature" of his mission. The young man also had a sheathed combat knife hidden underneath his person. He knows that he can handle a Master with his pistol, knife or his unarmed combat training, but not a Servant with either of them unless the bullets and knife are magically enhanced to handle them.

I just hope that the CEO had some time to recheck that I got magic-enhanced weapons to handle Servants.

Mark sighed as he opened the double wooden doors leading to the interior of the Cathedral. He then stepped inside slowly, without his Servant to back him up.

Archer had her eyes on the man that silently made his way to another man, who was sitting down on a bench. A servant no doubt. She knew that he was staring at her, and that only made her bite her lip in frustration. Another hero was looking at her, and wasn't bowing down to show their respect? That is unforgivable.

"Another servant... please don't do anything rash while on this neutral ground Archer..." whispered Lucas as he noticed his servant eyeing the man.

"He should be down on his knees worshiping me..." Archer's voice was filled with slight irritation as she continued to stare at the unknown servant.

"Yeah, yeah... I know... but if we start a fight here, we'll only draw more attention from other lowlifes, and we don't want that now, do we? Having more ungrateful peasants gaze upon your beauty would only be an insult, right?" whispered Lucas as he silently prayed to himself that his carefully chosen words would convince his servant not to attack.

Archer slightly tilted her head towards Lucas, and gave small nod, "You're not as stupid as you look, commoner." The blonde girl slowly made her way over to a nearby bench, and sat down.

"Thanks... I guess..." sighed the young man as he followed his servant, and leaned against the wall by her. And then he noticed a lone Asian man, wearing a cap and a jacket, enter through the cathedral's entrance doors. "I'm going to assume that's either a very, very interesting tourist, who's very, very lost, or another master who has come to meet the Overseer also..." whispered Lucas to his servant.

"Another lowlife eh? Well if he is a master, he's at least smart enough to keep his equally worthless servant hidden like a diseased rat...and out of the presence of a king," spoke Archer as she crossed her legs and folded her arms.

"...I swear... you are going to literally remove the neutrality from this zone if you keep this up..." sighed Lucas as he placed his hand in his pocket, and gripped onto five rubber balls. If things got ugly, and if it came down to it, he could infuse them with his mana, and throw them before they burst into flames. Burning down a holy cathedral, the place the overseer was going to be located at in this war, wasn't his ideal method of starting things out...but if it meant giving him and his servant a way to escape in case an unnecessary conflict broke out, then so be it.

As Rider materialized into existence, he knew right away that something was wrong. He should feel a constant flow of Prana from his master, but there was nothing. Looking around, he saw that he was alone. "But, this is impossible." Rider said to himself. "A Master summons a Servant. That's the way it is, the way it has always been." Sitting for a while in thought, he came to a conclusion. "Perhaps I am meant to find my own Master, to choose someone who is worthy of my skills."

A forest, long ago. Trees burning, their trunks popping from the heat. Birds scattered and wheeled in the sky, black-winged scavengers waiting for their prey to emerge. A blond man on horseback watches, his face a mask as soldiers advance behind the flames, jabbing spears into ashes and remains, making sure nothing could pass. Occasionally, they found a figure hiding prone in the burned shrubs, and death came in fearsome stabs. Bandits, they were- A clan of them, perhaps former raiders. Men, women and children were not to be spared.

All for Heaven, the horseman thought, passively, ignoring the distant screams. Heaven on Earth.

He raised a mailed fist, answered by shouts from other horseman behind. The spearman had pulled back by now, and the fire would die quickly on this wet, cold wood.

"Run them down. My justice will be had!"

A forest again, but no longer ancient. Streetlamps here and there illuminated a winding path or a wooden bench. A trash can had been knocked over recently, perhaps by a foraging animal, and its contents spilled across the ground where they may.

A sudden, crackling pressure made the streetlights flicker, and then there was a man on the path, kneeled on one leg. A thick hood had been thrown over his head, obscuring his features, but he was a tall man, and strong. Two long-handled axes were slung over his shoulders- One was an ornate, black stained steel affair of elaborate carvings and engravings, a magnum opus of whatever blacksmith had been inspired to craft it. A spike jutted from the back, opposite a heavy blade. The other was simpler and more worn, but nevertheless seemed to radiate a kind of strength that filled the veins with fervor. Its blade was a reliable hatchet's head, but its make was of heavy, cold iron, able to cleave through solid armor and bone. A woodcutter would have seen the true beauty of an axe like that, or perhaps an executioner, and would have judged it as reliable as the moon and sun. Only the heads were visible, the rest obscured by a long, bear-fur cloak whose hood hid its wearer's face. Below that, he wore a mail hauberk, though it seemed almost secondary to the cloak. A wooden box carved in elaborate images of animals in combat had been hung at his waist, alongside a short sword or long knife. That box and his cloak marked him as a Berserker- One of those that named the term.

He stood slowly, raising a hand garbed in chainmail to push the hood from his head. His features were noble and handsome, radiating surety and control. His blue eyes were piercing, taking in his surroundings- most importantly the lack of an obvious summoner. His nose was its flaw, high and hooked like a caricature of a blue-blooded man.

He waited for a moment, looking from side to side. No master appeared before him. Then he turned, saw nothing, and looked down. Not even a summoning circle?

Berserker, beginning to grow irritated, shut his eyes. "Where is my master? Does he stand on this field, or cower from afar?" No voice answered. Unfortunate.

"No? Then..." Berserker gave up. It wasn't as if he needed or wanted a master anyways. He only had one master, and He wasn't one to summon the dead back without reason. The norseman began to walk down the path.

— Asteon —

An awkward silence. David stared at the gold servant. Humans didn't pose nearly as big of a threat as servants. Asteon stared at the new-newcomer. David would cover the servant. Both of them thought,

This is wonderful.

While Asteon seemed content to stare down what looked like a police officer, David decided to question the servant. She was undeniably beautiful and David struggled to keep his gaze at her eyes and not at anything lower. "What is your business here? Though I can imagine it is the same as our's, to see the overseer."
