I found a H-manga of this very series on FAKKU. It was surprisingly sweet and terrifyingly amusingly in-character for Tomoko.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!
The manga tends to go through a sequence of lows for Tomoko, before the universe decides to be nice to her for a chapter. Then the cycle repeats. As a few posts above pointed out, this pretty much means that we'll DEFINITELY get "trainwreck" episodes where we couldn't look away as Tomoko suffers humiliation.
Okay, I take it back. The anime has the potential to be more cringy than the manga. I don't know if it's because it's three chapters in one, or it's the visuals, or the convincing voicework or empathic music or whatever, but an attempt has been made on my life while watching this.
See, when you read the manga, it's so grungy, dirty and pulpy that you can't take it seriously: You read it as a black comedy, and that's how I always treated it. But when you watch the anime, whose visuals aren't that much different from any other slice-of-life anime, it doesn't feel like a black comedy. It feels like you're watching a slice-of-life comedy gone horribly WRONG.
Imagine the poor soul who waits for the series to air so he could marathon it. Suicide rates across the world will skyrocket, I tell ya.
"With great power comes great responsibility" - Kurt Cobain, Nickelback (2003)Being Tomoko is suffering. Hope Kyubey doesn't get anywhere near her.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Tomoko getting off to yandere-style verbal abuse is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen in both the manga and the anime. The episode was good... now, I fuckin' HAVE to read that Wata Mote H-Manga on Fakku. XD
There's no way her wish to be popular could backfire... *Sarcasm Mode: ON*

Yandre boys CD? Can you have Yandre boys? I thought it was one of those Double Standard things and Yandre boys were, well, abusive criminals....and yes that was very disturbing. Same with her view of the manager also. That girl has some strange ideas about various things...that seemed to come up alot this show.
"The only thing I've gotten better at since I started HS is pretending to wake up from pretending to sleep." HS will do that to you.
Maybe it's because of her otome games... kind of like those girls who, having read Twilight, find Edward Cullen sweet and romantic when he's actually an abusive stalker. Or the ASOIAF fangirls who ship Sansa Stark with Sandor fucking Clegane. Mokocchi has some... really fucked up views about sex and relationships, even outside of her obsession with yandere guys. Like, that time in the manga when she complained about how she never got molested on trains because she's unattractive... WTF.

I think I found the Yandere disc the one Tomoko was hearing was based on.

Crunchyroll has it. Though for free members, it's available on the 15th.
