H'okay.

This is an itch I've been wanting to scratch for a while, so I figure I'll see what comes of it.

BASICALLY. I really want to do an Adventurey, type... globe trotting Rp. Think Uncharted or Indiana Jones or National Treasure. I'd get into more description or explain my idea my thoroughly, but I... really don't have one. This is just an interest check. Hell, I don't even really wanna run this thing, I just hadn't seen anything like this kickin' round da forums, so I figured I'd give it a try. See who nibbled.

So... is anybody interested?

(I've used both itching analogies and eating analogies. Wow. Little gross. Sorry if that put you off many meals.)

...Wait. So this is basically a pulpy, two-fisted tales kind of deal, then?

...I'm interested. Go on... >.>

Yes. Pulp. Two fists. Possibly '30s, '40s, possibly not.

Probably not.

As much as I love Nazis and Tommy Guns, I feel like it'll alienate people who aren't big on their history.

Plus, if it's modern? Helicopters! I don't know why that's a selling point, but it is.

Sigh, guess I'm bumping my RP limit up to four, then. I'm interested.

Four is a great number. Four sides to a box. Four walls in a room. Fantastic Four. Four play.. Uh...

Yeah!

REGARDING SETTING: I'd be interested in a 40's era game, even though I don't know a whole lot of history.

Also, are you going for strictly mundane, or perhaps mixing in some supernatural/Schizotech stuff in?

Iunno.

UHM. I'd say we should keep it as mundane as possible, because if we let the tech get too crazy, it ends up being something other than what it's supposed to be.

Moerin (4 Score & 7 Years Ago)
#8: Oct 19th 2011 at 11:17:02 AM

Personally, I'd go with 30s / 40s Nazipunching schizotech awesomeness, but that's just me. >.> Because, uh... That's how I always remember the pulp stuff, ahah~

[up]Aw, really? But these kind of things are very rarely completely mundane. >.>

True, but if it's too schizo, it ends up Dieselpunk. Which really sorta... yeah.

That's why I'm thinking Modern. I love the '30s/'40s setting, but if there's modern tech there, people might be less inclined to try and stick crazy Dieselpunk in.

Plus there's something oddly interesting in the concept of taking classic pulp tropes and setting them in the modern day. But that could just be me.

Though I don't see what's so terrible about Dieselpunk, I respect your right to your own RP. Modern is fine, and I see what you mean about pulp tropes in the modern day.

Oh, no, don't get me wrong, I love Dieselpunk.

It's just too much of that takes away from the Adventure type... stuff.

Half the fun of these things is it's the "real world" except for all the Myths and Legends and what not.

Moerin (4 Score & 7 Years Ago)
#12: Oct 19th 2011 at 2:18:13 PM

Aw, you don't think we could at least take it in moderation? Dieselpunk would be pretty cool, yeah, but as long as we don't overuse it it shouldn't really be much of a problem.

And, um, I dunno, this kind of thing always seemed to be locked into a certain time period to me for some reason. For one thing, it gives you Nazis, who usually work pretty well as an antagonist (because they're usually into all that mystical stuff, and because they had all those weird superweapon plans, and because hey, they're Nazis). But, um, if everyone else wants to try and modernize it, then I guess I'd be okay with at least trying it.

Ultimately, it's up to the GM. But I think we can agree here that we would like to see an Interbellum period, two-fisted tales adventure focused, moderately supernatural RP. As for dieselpunk, I'm fine either way, but it's something I'd like to see. I wouldn't mind a modern day setting either, but it does sort of take some of the pulp adventure charm out of it.

By the way, for my character I'm thinking a loaded french debutante who's an amateur occultist.

Cast in another vote for The '30s.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

Well, I'm up for the '30s, then, but I still think Dieselpunk is bad idea.

With things like that, you can't really use them in "moderation", because someone'll have an idea, and they'll use it, and then someone else'll wanna do something, and if they're told they can't, they'll cite something they consider to be "a bigger deal" or something.

It's just better to keep it off the table.

I really like Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow, but that's really not the kind of vibe I'd want with this.

That said, I'm not G Ming, it was just an idea I wanted to toss out there. I really, really don't like the idea of Dieselpunk in this thingy, but I'm not running it, so I don't have the final say.

Moerin (4 Score & 7 Years Ago)
#16: Oct 19th 2011 at 4:42:10 PM

Well... Who says we have to do dieselpunk if we set it in the 30s? I mean, really all I'd expect would be the occasional (as in, on rare occasions) zeppelin and maybe the odd Nazi superweapon/stolen bit of Tesla-tech, but that would be it. I'm pretty sure you can trust as all to not go overboard with the whole thing.

That'd be fine!

I'm honestly fine with a sprinkle of "Pulpy" stuff here and there when it comes to tech. I mean, you're quite right, we need a bit of leeway for zanny doomsday weapons and things of that nature.

Just wasn't too keen on having robots and Dieselpunk Iron Men types flying around, you know? As cool as that would be, it'd detract from the central thingy.

I might be willing to step up to the GM plate. It depends on if anyone else is willing to take up the job. If five or six people show interest and noone else offers, I'll do it.

Personally, I'd favour playing a dashing man of action~

...Or, knowing me, an expy of young Joseph Joestar. >.>

...Um... I'd like to nominate myself for not being the GM ever, though, seeing how I'm, uh... Not very good at such things at all, ahah.

Man of action? I so support this.

I'm kind of gravitating toward an antagonist, because everybody else seems to be more... protagonistly inclined? Which isn't a bad thing. Also, I love villains.

Color me intrigued. I'm already G Ming one game, though, so I would only want to do a player character.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.
