"And how is the mind part of person's DNA?" I asked, though I shook my head. "Nevermind, we don't have time for that." I really needed to learn how to control my thoughts...
"I'm in," I said, not a moment after Alex I'll add. This was a war, and knowledge is both a powerful and scary thing. It comes with responsibility. I think part of me assumed it was a dream, but that didn't really help my impulsive streak. (I'd deny I had one if I thought it was worth the time and hassle.)
"Where are your fellows? You're a soldier, right? Why were you without a commanding officer or other soldiers?" I continued, "We can't fight this ourselves."
Hey! Read my fanfic: HereIt took me a little while to process all the information coming through, realizing what he said the cube would do even as Ryan spoke aloud. Of course, watching how the others paths of thought progress helped mine move along. Eventually, I figured out exactly how I needed to respond.
"Bullshit." Without much time, I couldn't give it as much of a pause as I would have liked, but I will silently admit that there was a point and I even saw it then. "If nothing's done, then humans are finished. And you have the only way to stop it. And we're the only ones close enough and trustworthy enough to gain that power. I don't like being used."
After a pause to catch my breath and glare, I stepped towards where everyone else stood. "But if you're right, the alternative's worse. So how do we do this?"
I saw the alien's face took a pained expression for a second as Jamie asked about his commander, his stalk eyes turning towards the nightly sky. <My prince... No, that's not important. Now, Each of you should place a hand on the Escafil device.> He then held out the blue box to the group, from which I figured that that must be the Escafil device he was talking about. I hesistated for a short while, then placed my hand on it, causing the box to start to glow a bit.
Normally that would cause any sane person to draw away his and and step back. Then again, any sane person of my age would've run away and hid under his bed by now considering the circumstances, but hey.
Suddenly, the alien seemed to slowly turn his eyestalks to the right, as if tracking something. As I looked up, I saw something that looked very much like a red star, except for the fact that it was moving around. Before I could ask anything the alien started his telepathic communication-thing again. <They are here! Hurry, there is no time!>
<You must place your hand upon the Escafil device.> The alien said.
"Goddamn it" I hissed.
At this rate, I was never going to be able to see a giant purple laser beam, and thus destroy irony once and for all.
Still, I stepped forward to use the miracle of technology that is the Escafil device. Ryan was first though, since he had been the closest to Elfangor. He finished, but as I was about to copy him, but a glimmer of light out of the corner of my eye made me look up. To see a glowing red star coming towards us. I could hear Elfangor shouting a warning, but it was unnecessary, there was just something about that star, that just screamed out wrong!
I rushed forward, and slammed my hand down upon the box, I then stood there waiting for what seemed like hours, as a warm electrical charge surged up my arm. The second it was over, I practically shoved the box into Jamies face.
I took the box from Jamie, being careful with it as I had no idea how it would work. I wish I could say that I felt a surge of energy from the box, but honestly, I don't remember for sure if I did or not. It seems so long ago.
With that said, I could tell that when I touched the box, something changed. Looking back, I didn't realize just how much had changed but I think even then I could tell my life would be different.
Without thinking I went to hand it back to Elfangor before I realized something. "Wait, what should we do with this? I mean do you need to do something more or is that all and now we need to protect it so that the enemy doesn't get our power?"
I saw the alien fell through his front legs again. <Without resistance, the Yeerks will surely take over the entire human race. I gave you this power to prevent that from happening. You must fight the Yeerks!> He then fell silent for a while, trying to get back up his front feet before collapsing again. When he started talking again, his speech seemed more choppy. <All you need to do is touch any animal, sentient or not... . Then, focus on that animal, how it looks, what it is. The rest will... come natural.> Slowly, the alien's eyes seemed to close, then opened again. He seemed to have trouble breathing at this point. <The same goes with Morphing... . Focus on the animal you have accquired, picture it's body. Just... remember one thing. You must never go... past two hours in morph. If you do, you will... not be able to turn back. Now go! Run!>. The alien then fell sideways to the ground, seemingly unconcious.
Part of me wanted to stay behind and help the alien. Another part of me wanted to go away and run, mostly due to the alien specifically telling me to run. In the end, I chose to run. It was a wise choice. ...I still hate myself for making it.

Stuff happens. Post it here so we can laugh at you >=DI was very careful to catch the box before it hit my face. I was, after all, an athlete, though it wasn't my main focus. I had, indeed, noticed the red light; at first, I thought it was a satellite's light. It wasn't particularly special or eerie, though I'm sure Ryan and Alex had differing theories.
I was aware of a surge of energy when I caught the box. It wasn't that big, but noticeable. I heard a warning from the extra-terrestrial, and he was staring at the star. Liz had taken the box as soon as I had handed to her, and I noticed, again, the star in the sky as the alien warned us to run.
As I said before, he was going to die. It was unavoidable. However, our death was avoidable, and thus was the logic I use to justify leaving the alien behind. I'll admit it: I feel guilt over his death, but, really, who wouldn't?
Hey! Read my fanfic: HereEvery muscle in my body screamed RUN!, but when I saw Elfangor fall harshly to the ground, my instinct was to run forward. He had said to run, and I knew I would need to but I couldn't leave yet.
Ryan and Jamie left at his warning, and I'm glad they left quickly because when I was crouched next to him, I had the idea. Not knowing how well he'd be able to understand me, I put my hand on his arm and whispered, "Is this alright?" before beginning to concentrate, aware of the fact that the enemy was approaching and keeping an ear out for when it got too close.
Elfangor
The Andalite saw two of the humans run away, much to his relief. At least his betrayal wouldn't be in vain. He closed his eyes, then opened them again when he felt a hand on his arm. They are here already? But then those humans are undoubtly caught. Did I create more abominations? Please, no... He slowly opened his main eyes, then saw that another human had put one of her hands on his arm. <Why are you still here? I tol-> He was cut short as the acquiring trance took hold of his body and mind. < So, you wish... to acquire me. ...So be it.>. What did I do? She only has the power for a few minutes and already she's acquiring sapient morphs.
Moments after the acquiring was finished, the red light in the sky started to rapidly increase in size. <Run! I'll draw... their attention.>
While the remaining two humans ran away or hid, Elfangor waited for him to arrive. He knew that he was here. The abomination. Visser Three. The only Yeerk to ever enslave an Andalite. Not only that, he was the one responsible for it. It was only fitting that he would die at the hands of Vissser Three. After all, he essentially killed the Visser's host. He turned his stalk eyes upwards and saw the Blade ship slowly come down to the ground.
Ryan
I was running around the corner when I noticed that Liz had stayed behind. When I looked back, I saw that she was bending over the alien, holding his arm with her hand. You know, part of me wanted to do the same; comfort the alien in his final moments. The problem was that if I did that, it would've been my final moments too. Now, it seemed like it would be her final moments. Luckily, it seemed that the alien finally got through to her, as she started to run just in time to get out of view before the light in the sky I've seen earlier was quickly growing bigger. I strained my eyes to try and see what kind of ship it was and what would come out of it.
The ship... It looked like some kind of flying battleaxe-thing. It's hard to describe. What came out of it is even harder to describe: A group of four aliens we would later learn to know as Hork-Bajir. Hork-Bajir are some kind of cross between a T-rex, a bipedal bird and a lawnmower. They have several large blades on their arms and legs, capable of slashing through plate steel like a hot knife through butter. You don't even want to think about what it can do to a body of flesh and blood. They were followed by another Andalite. Somehow though, I just felt that this one was not as nice as the one that gave us the power. Then it started to talk, and my suspicions were confirmed.
Visser Three
Visser Three slowly walked out of the Blade Ship. He was savoring every moment. This victory would ensure the conquering of Earth; With the only Andalite defense line gone and the main force far away, there was nothing that could stop them now. And after the human race was enslaved, the rest of the universe would soon follow. He walked over to Elfangor, his face twisted with a mouthless grin. He then started open thought-speak, so that everyone could hear his gloating. <So, we meet again, Prince Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul. But this time, I have won. Now do you see how futile your struggle was? You fool... You have lost, Andalite. You and your entire race have lost. You must surely know this though. Billions of humans, just waiting to be enslaved. ...Did you know that some are willingly letting us take them? All we had to do was plant the seeds. Tell them they'll be important, stronger, learn the truth. They're no better than Taxxons in that extent.>. Visser Three stopped talking for a moment. <With these bodies, we can spread out through the galaxy! We'll be completely unstoppable. Not even you Andalites can stop us now... I promise you one thing, Prince Elfangor - when we have this planet, with its rich harvest of bodies, we will move against the Andalite home world. I will personally hunt down your family. And I will personally oversee the placement of my most faithful lieutenants in their heads. I hope that they will resist, so I can hear their minds scream.> Elfangor was simply too battered to do anything at this point. He tried to strike, but his tail fell down powerlessly onto his back. Visser Three resumed his speech. <Pathetic. Let me end your suffering...>. He stepped back, then slowly started to change. His legs melted away into his body, his arms changed into some kind of tentacles. His body became larger and larger, growing almost as large as the entire Andalite ship. Then his face bursted open, becoming little more than a giant mouth, with teeth as long as swords. With ridiculous speed, the tentacles shot forward and wrapped around Elfangor's legs, arms, body and tail. He then proceeded to literally pull the Andalite apart, limb for limb. The first thing to go were the fragile arms. The flesh tore off with a sickening sound, the bones broke with a mind-numbing snap. Visser Three then... ate the arms. Then the strong legs were up, followed by the tail. Finally, the blood-smeared body was picked up and swallowed whole... He then turned to his followers <This is the fate of all who oppose us! Glory to the Yeerk Empire!>

Stuff happens. Post it here so we can laugh at you >=DWhat is she doing?! I thought as I saw Liz run towards the alien. I was about to run after her, when I saw her leave the alien and run back towards us. We threw ourselves to the ground just as the alien craft descended upon the clearing. Hiding behind a concrete barrier, I listened as the leader, another andalite like Elfangor, taunted the dying alien. Although most of it was just your average gloating, there was one phrase that caught my interest.
"Some are willing to let us take them, all we had to do was plant the seeds"
..hmm... Interesting
A gasp from someone next to me drew my attention back to the aliens.
Oh... Shit.
Visser Three was changing, warping and mutating into an abberation that looked like it belonged in the Cthulhu Mythos. Suddenly the monsters tendrils whiped out, and tore Elfangor's arms from their sockets!
I shrunk back, cowering behind the barrier with my hands covering my head to block out the screams-
What are you doing!!?? I thought That should be you screaming out there! Not Elfangor!!
I was right. I needed to move fast, provide some kind of distraction-
STOP THINKING ABOUT IT AND DO IT!!!!!!!!
Maybe if could-
MOVE!!
I...
MOVE!!!!!
Just...
MOVE YOU SELFISH FUCKING COWARD!!! MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Martin was right. I was nothing, for all my bravado, I was just a pathetic coward, who couldn't even do the right thing to save an innocent man from being tortured to death- WHAT THE FUCK WAS WRONG WITH ME!?!?!?! ANOTHER MAN WAS DYING BECAUSE OF ME AND I WAS COWERING HERE FEELING SORRY FOR MYSELF!?!?!?! I HAD NO RIGHT TO-
USELESS!!
FUCKING!!!!
COWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With an earsplitting scream, I turned and ran.
I put my hand on Ryan's shoulder. I had, indeed, watched the whole thing; it was like a high-speed collision, in that you couldn't look away. I feel like a bad person for saying that, but it did. I'm sure that Ryan, as much of a better person he is than me, wasn't going to take this very well. (Well, better than anyone else, at least...) That assumes he kept his eyes open during the whole thing...
I put some force to turn him towards me, and whispered, "We're going. NOW." I didn't raise my voice, but I made sure my point was clear. I had very little breath to waste at the moment, considering we had to get away from that... THING.
Then Alex made the most blood-curtling scream, and I knew the alien had heard us. We had to leave before he knew who we were. I grabbed Ryan to pull him up, and ran as fast as I could after Alex. He was going towards the only exit, after all. I knew Ryan would follow (he usually did), and I could only hope that Liz had a plan. I didn't hang around her much, but she was smart. Smart enough, at the very least...
Hey! Read my fanfic: HereI picked up the pace when I heard the others behind me. I didn't want to face them, to hear their accusations condemning me for things that I knew I was guilty of so I ran towards a fence, clambering over it and rolling on to the ground before running across the bumpy grassland. I used my momentum to my advantage, when I tripped I let the roll carry me further forward, constantly in motion, not looking back. I didn't care where I was going, the only plan had been to move into the hills, where the darkness would hide me from the oth-
I gasped as the dirt ground slammed into my elbows and immediatly, the shaking began. I gasped and choked as my muscles spasmed from exhaustion, I don't think I had ever run that much in my life. I tried to stand but I couldn't support myself, I just lay there on the ground. Gasping and panting.
Ryan
The alien that came out of the ship started to talk to, no, taunt the wounded one. The wounded alien's only response was a weak flail of his tail. At that time, I wanted to see what would happen next. Now, I wish that I didn't. The taunting alien started to transform into some kind of tentacle-worm-thing with a giant mouth filled with equally giant teeth. Luckily I went to the bathroom before leaving the movie theatre...
I... have no words for what happened then. The alien that gave us the power got murdered in a way so brutal I couldn't possibly begin to describe. I cowered behind a wall and sunk into a fetal position, trying to shut out the death cries of the poor alien with my hands, to no avail. When the cries stopped, I instead heard a horrible slobbering sound, causing my bowels to spasm and nearly empty themselves on the spot. I buckled over and started to shiver and shake, trying to convinve myself that this was all just a nightmare and that I would wake up soon.
The only reason that I'm still alive as of now was because of Jamie. If it weren't for him, I would've simply been too messed up at the time to even think of running away. Moments after he managed to break me out of mental self-preservation mode, that weird guy let out a scream so horrible I though for a second that he was grabbed next. As Jamie pulled me up and started running after him, my legs just sort of run on their own as i followed Jamie. As we reached the fence, I climbed over it as if my life depended on it - Well, it did, but that's not the point - and leaped off of it, then continued to run as soon as I hit the ground.

Stuff happens. Post it here so we can laugh at you >=DI wish I could say that I remember the calm feeling of the acquiring ability when I took my first morph, but even then my mind was fighting itself - part of me said that I shouldn't be doing it, but the part in control said it was one of those moments I would look back on and wish I could travel back in time to, and I hope that was what I would look back and wish I had done.
<Run! I'll draw... their attention.> I heard as we were beginning to be illuminated in red. I knew I would be pushing my luck, but I had to whisper back "Thank you." before standing and rushing away towards the areas where I could be at least somewhat hidden.
With how long it took me to take cover, I didn't get a great look at the ship at the time. Mostly because of the aliens standing around - the Hork-Bajir. They don't actually seem as scary as the others suggest, like a clown with a chainsaw. When they're upset, or ready to fight, it's another story. And if you caused their anger... well, there is a reason the Yeerks use them as troops.
Even angry, however, the Hork-Bajir were nothing to the alien that was in charge, however. Even before he spoke, I could feel the difference between Visser Three and Elfangor. Then I saw what I would later recognize as my first morph. I'd seen animals frozen to the ground, a sinkful of blood, and more than my fair share of disturbing online videos. As soon as the tentacles flew out, I knew I couldn't watch any more. But I could still hear it. I had to focus myself internally to keep from puking and even now I can't describe the sounds without gagging.
Then came the scream. It took me a second to realize that I had heard it, although that's why it caught my attention. I heard Alex scream, and realized that despite the talking it had been very quiet.
I was on the wrong side of the construction site. The gate was by the open area so that trucks and other vehicles could get in. All the materials that had already been brought in were on the other side, around me. With the aliens on the hunt in between. If I had run right away, I probably could have cleared what little open area there was to the fence. Then, I'd have had to hope that they stopped there without catching up.
Instead I headed for the side, relatively well covered from sight, watching for an opportunity to either find a covered area closer to the gate where the rest were headed or to the back where the enemies seemed unlikely to head.
((OOC:
1: please ask these kinds of questions in the discussion thread. 2: Sadly there are no open slots anymore.))
Seconds after I got over the fence, I heard a lot of noise behind me. Well, even more than I heared before that, that is. At the moment, I had no idea what happened there , but at least it distracted the Hork-Bajir for long enough for us to get away. Even though I seemingly wasn't followed anymore I kept running anyways.
-A little while later-
We were in an alley close to Jamie's house. I was sitting against a wall with my legs pulled up against my chest, trying to figure out what the heck just happened there. Why couldn't I do anything? Why did I run away when someone needed my help? By doing nothing, I essentially condemned the alien to death. He helped us all, gave us a weapon, and I'd just let him die.
Stuff happens. Post it here so we can laugh at you >=DWhile I let Ryan hyperventilate on the wall of the alley, I paced. And when I paced, I usually took a lot of room; the alley's length was a good length, so I walked from one end to the other. Ryan was probably one of my best friends, but he was really empathetic with normal issues; half of my mind was focused on what event to cancel so that I could help him out. The other half was working through the details of morphing. This was a great and terrible thing we just accepted, and the responsibility even more so. We were kids in high school; how were we going to find time to do anything? How are we going to figure out how to do anything?
I thought I saw Alex at the end of the alley, but I wasn't sure. I was pretty sure he was nearby, though. I hadn't lost sight of him until I noticed Ryan had stopped and I, in turn, stopped. Liz was probably behind us, but, as before, I couldn't be sure.
Whatever happened in that construction yard after we left, it was enough. I was almost sure those aliens could outrun us; they were lean and aerodynamic. Yet, they didn't... I made a note to investigate the site when I had the time.
As I moved on to another subject in my head, I thought of my parent's shop. We had a lot of animals; I was sure that some of them would come in hand. Pollux would also make a great morph; chinchillas have amazing jumping and climbing ability, and are small and lithe enough to get into places. Plus, his fur was black, perfect for infiltration.
I stopped myself on the thought. Not my favorite activity, but I had to think only a certain number of moves ahead; a player thinking five moves ahead would have to rely on his opponent making a specific series of moves, while a player thinking two moves ahead would only need to rely on a general plan of action from his opponent...
Hey! Read my fanfic: HereThe world seemed lighter.
That was the first thing I noticed. Funny, I never realised I had fallen asleep.
I stood to my feet and began to think. Instantly the guilt and helplessness hit me, my mind was a blur of fear and negativity
What could I do? I had failed to do the right thing even when it truly mattered and now I had nowhere to even begin to fight this wa-
I silenced the thoughts by biting down onto my hand, channeling all my anxiety into a savage need to hurt something, to cause pain and inflict damage.
I tasted copper and felt a warm trickle run down my chin. Eyes widening in happiness, I looked at my hand
Blood!
I had actually managed to break the skin! I had bitten myself out of frustration before, but my cowardly fear of pain had always stopped me from doing any real damage. But now as I looked at my bleeding hand, I began to calm down, as my fears where replaced by a new hope. Because now I new that I could hurt myself, this was the proof of it. With this revelation, I began to pace back and forth. This situation was a puzzle and one that I was determined to solve. The first thing I needed was information, I needed to know exactly who was possessed and who wasn't, Visser Three's comment on some humans becoming willing hosts intrigued me, but it still wasn't enough. I decided that the best course of action would be to return to the crash site and see if I could gather some clues. It wasn't a perfect plan, but it was my only plan.
My first stroke of luck came when I found a raven lying on the ground half dead with a broken wing. Smiling slightly at my good fortune (and then immediatly hating myself for smiling when there was a creature in obvious agony infront of me and then being proud of my ruthlessness) I bent down and began aquiring the bird. As I concentrated, I felt a rush of warmth throughout my body. When I was done, I crushed the birds head beneath my boot. I know that sounds harsh, but I didn't have time to take it to a vet, and their was no way I was leaving it to suffer.
Standing up, I began to concentrate on my morph. I felt a jolt as a falling sensation hit me and I opened my eyes to realise that I was shrinking at an alarming rate. At the same time, my heartbeat began to race, going from
Thu-Thump. Thu-Thump
To
ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-tap ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-tap
Looking down at my chest, I saw how my clothes were becoming baggier and baggier and I immediately stripped them of before I ended up buried beneath them. I was just in time, because seconds later I saw my thumbs wither and fuse into my hand. At the same time, my palm shrunk and my fingers thined and extended to disproportionate lengths. Despite all these changes, there was still no sign of any feathers. Instead, my skin had begun thinning and paling into a dull grey membrane. All except my legs which were hardening and callousing into the leg scales that are the last relics of the birds reptilian ancestors. Speaking of reptilian, my feet had already fused, split and sharpened into the tell-tale bird talons. At the same time I felt my face becoming harder and thicker as it morphed into the classic bird beak. Finnally, after all the other changes were complete, I felt the itchy sensation of a million feathers sprouting from my skin to cover my body.
I had taken ten steps in my raven morph when I saw a flash of movement out of the corner of my eye. Curious, I hopped towards the noise, but the second I got close the creature, a small lizard, retreated further into the undergrowth. I would have smiled if I could have

I ruffled my feathers to clear my head. It seems that by morphing the birds brain as well as it's body, I had incorporated the ravens base instincts into my own. I stood there, watching and waiting. For a little while, I was afraid that I would have to try to outrun these aliens and I had a disturbing feeling that I would be caught if I tried.
Then I heard something land near my hiding space. A Hork-Bajir was looking right at me!
That's when I noticed that it didn't seem to be moving. I couldn't tell what had happened to it for sure, but it seemed to have gotten the attention to the others, who ran towards the same spot. For once, luck was on my side and it was away from me.
Almost as soon as I realized it, I sprinted for the side fence, trying to keep low and get to the fence as soon as possible. With every step, it felt like the fence was two steps further away, but I finally managed to make it there and over.
From there, my mind nearly went on autopilot, and I began looking for somewhere private. I knew this area decently well, though I would have been happier if it were more familiar. At the least, I knew where there was a malfunctioning street light nearby.
So I sat on the sidewalk under its non-existant light for about five minutes, silently bawling, before managing to get myself together enough to clean up in the reflection of a car's window before heading towards Jamie's house. I'm not exactly sure why I thought that would be the best place to head first, but when I saw Ryan and Jamie at a distance I was glad that I had.

Alex
When Alex arrives at the crash site, not a single trace of the crashed ship is left, though rubble from the shacks it smashed into is still everywhere. The police have secured the area and are gathering evidence; The current theory is that there was a gas explosion of sorts.
Ryan
Slowly, I started to calm down again. I looked around and saw Jamie walking up and down the alley, obviously thinking about something. That is to say, people who are pacing back and forth tend to be lost in thoughts. I decided to not disturb him, instead looking around some more. What I saw then disturbed me to no end. I saw that guy crush a bird's head beneath his foot.
I immediately stood up and walked over to him to ask what the hell that was about, but before I was halfway, he began to... change, causing me to freeze in my steps again. Once more, al I could do was watch as he started to shrink. Soon, he was so small that his clothes were far too large for him, causing him to strip. At this point, I logically turned my head away, so I couldn't tell what happened to him afterwards. Later experience with morphing tells me that's it couldn't possibly be pretty to watch anyways.
A bit later, I heard the rustling of feathers and the beat of wings. I was confused; didn't that jerk just kill that bird? When I turned aruond again, I saw the guy's clothes lyign on the groung, a dead bird lying close to it and another bird flying off in the rough direction of the crash site. Wait a minute, I thought. Didn't that alien say something about us being able to turn into animals? ...Did that guy just... Oh no.
I turned back to Jamie. I felt he needed to know about this. I don't really know why, though. Maybe I just needed to get it off my chest instead. "So, uhm, Jamie?", I started. "That other guy who was with us? He sorta flew off just now."

Stuff happens. Post it here so we can laugh at you >=DI stopped in my tracks just after I heard a lift off from behind me. Ryan was out of his shock; at least temporarily. Did he just say...? But, I didn't see him... Did he say flew...? I shook my head. Of course he did. We just got powers. Responsibilities. And Alex, the class clown, was flying around on a play date or something.
"Alex," I said, "When I get my hands on him-" There was a slight growl to my voice, but I stopped mid-sentence. "Forget him, Liz is back." I said, motioning to Ryan to follow me. I didn't know how Liz had escaped; while I had assumed she had followed me, that evidently wasn't the case, as she was quite a ways away from us.
"You okay, Liz?" I asked, examining her body for any bruises, cuts, or bleeding. Not sure what I could have done at the moment if she had any, but it seemed like the smart thing to do.
Hey! Read my fanfic: HereI was still a little overwhelmed when Jamie spotted me. Although I was collected enough to meet up with them halfway, I could tell that my legs were a little unsteady.
"You okay, Liz?" Jamie asked, checking me for injuries. I had some scratches, but the little blood drawn since I cleaned up had stopped and I knew that most would be nearly unnoticeable by the morning. The rest would need a change of clothes and a band-aid or two and it would be like nothing happened.
I opened my mouth slightly to respond and my throat tightened significantly. If I tried to speak, I knew that I'd start crying again and probably be unintelligible. Instead, I nodded and gave a forced smile as I crouched a little to make sure that my knees didn't lock.
After a little pause, I felt myself calm enough to make out words and asked*, "I'll be alright. Did everyone else get out?"

I frowned.
"You do of course realise that you are asking children to fight in a war that really isn't my problem any more than all the other half a dozen wars going on on this god-forsaken rock." I said.
I enjoyed Elfangor's look of horror for a second, but then I shrugged and have him an easy going smile.
"However, since I have nothing better to do, and this whole morphing thing sounds kind of interesting, screw it. I'm in.
I walked over and stood next to Ryan.
