My first JL story (not counting the Super Friends cartoons) was a JLA/JSA crossover, where the villain was - a DC comics writer!? Yep, Cary Bates, turned evil by The Wizard after accidentally crossing Earths (thanks to Flash's cosmic treadmill). He actually KILLS the Justice Society and traps people inside "word ballons!" But then The Spectre asks God to revive the JSA, and he agrees, and everything gets solved very neatly.
Actually that utterly goofy story was an anomaly, the League was much more serious by that time (still not 90's stuff but no longer Silver Age either.) More importantly, it introduced me to the Justice Society and the concept of parallel Earths. I always loved the JLA/JSA team ups since then.

I remember the JLA book were they get sucked into an Interplanetary War. It was pretty good without that preachy Iraq-comparisons a lot of shit fa;ll into.
Let's make a TCG!I jumped on board some time during the early days of the JLI run, back in the Giffen-De Mattis-Maguire days. I had to backtrack to read the first few issues, but I think it was around issue 12 or so.

Respect the Red Right Hand
Unless 'I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League' counts, then my first JL comic was the first trade of the Justice League Unlimited tie-in.
The first bit of Justice League I ever read in an old comic which was compare of samples some of DC's then current titles. The last sample was the "one punch" scene from JLI. It really intrigued me but I nevertheless turned down my one chance to get backissues of it, I had to wait years until I could read any. Still the JLI is by far my favourite incarnation of the League
After that I didn't read any Justice League at all until the JLA/Avengers crossover.

Am I a good man or a bad man? Here's a look at Justice League Detroit, the first big reshuffle of the JLA concept.
Can I talk about the other Justice League books in this thread? Can I Can I Can I?
I'm gonna talk about the other Justice League books.
Justice League International: Hey remember when people were complaining that JL #1 didn't even have everyone on the cover on it and a lot of people said you couldn't have that many characters introduced with modern comic book story telling without feeling really compressed? WELL GUESS WHAT THIS BOOK DID?
It's far from perfect but it's a fun adventure comic done in a classic superhero style.
Justice League Dark: This one was also a little too slow for my tastes, but not to the point of Johns' Justice League, but all the characters have been established really quickly. I can also forgive a dark fantasy comic moving slowly a bit more. I also think de-aging John and making it a different John altogether (though hopefully more or less the same personality wise) was a good idea.
"Everyone wants an answer, don't they?... I hate things with answers." — Grant MorrisonAfter a year of the New 52 version of the Justice League, I'm hard pressed to care about any of it, in all honesty. These aren't the characters I've been invested in for all these years. Meaning that even though we're getting a Justice League of America with Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Green Arrow and Green Lantern as part of the roster, it doesn't grab me because they aren't really the same characters at all.
I had much the same problem with Justice League International. I enjoyed the first issue, but as the series went on it was difficult for me not to compare it with the old JLI series (which it clearly drew from in terms of inspiration, judging by the roster), and it just wasn't anywhere as entertaining or enjoyable.
I like Jones but it feels like he's struggling to fit the characterization work he needs to be doing in a team book. Some examples: the Supes and Wonder Woman thing struck everyone as out of nowhere. There's plenty of way that could have been build up but I can't recall Jones really doing anything to do so.
We still don't know how Batman interacts with the league. Is his Tower of Babel personality around, is it reconned, did he develop from it?
Jones's WW doesn't really feel like Azzerello's WW. Azzerello's WW is a fairly manipulative character who spends more time with gods than mortals. Jones's WW has a naivete that doesn't seem present in Azzerllo's at all. It just feels inconsistent.

Now that the #2s are coming out, the "Justice League #1" thread is a bit obsolete. So here's a thread to discuss all current and past Justice Leagues (though with an emphasis on whatever issue just came out.)
As a topic starter, what was the Justice League story you first remember reading? For me, it was the first appearance of Doctor Destiny, and that weird mask he made Wonder Woman wear.
