....black outs all over the globe...

...major metropolitan areas without power...

...unknown causes...solar flares...

...mass disappearances in the blackouts...

....riots are expected...

...citizens are told to keep calm...

The news was a buzz with the strange happenings about the world. Intense power outages. Strange, nearly alarming disappearances from various points of the world, with no trace in sight. People wanted answers, and answers were something people just couldn't give right now. False reassurances went over the airwaves and radio waves, telling people that they needed t calm down, that blackouts were a common everyday occurance. Why was it happening around the WORLD, though? Who knew. Something involving solar flares, they said.

Only time would tell...

...

"What...what are you..." Gasped the young man as he trembled, falling to his knees, his body covered in cuts and bruises. In his right hand was a hand of Duel Monsters cards, his other hand a duel disk. Panting, he looked up at the cloaked man before him. Behind the man was an immense monster, growling and drooling a black ichor that burned the ground around him. Around him was still bodies of several other duelists, twitching, barely breathing and worse.

"What am I?" Asked the man, his voice barely above a mumble. "Heh, you'd be surprised how many people have asked me that. And allow me to answer that with a question: Why should I tell you? IN a few seconds, to you, nothing will matter any longer."

He gestured with his hand, the monster behind him rose a little higher. "End him."

An resounding roar, an echoing scream as the man fell on his stomach, gasping heavily as the black liquid burned into his skin, groaning in pain.

"I suppose you lot will do." He looked to the other still bodies and lifted his hand, chanting an unknown language to himself. The bodies stiffened like a board, before they melted into a multicolored portal. The pools of energy flew into the air and condensed into a single ball of energy, which flew into the mans palm and melted into his skin. He took a deep breath and shook his head.

"Still not enough." He grunted. "If I'm going to get any farther...I need to get a move on...perhaps something in another city..." He walked off down into the darkness, mumbling to himself, something about a city called "Domino..."

...

The sun was shining, not a single cloud in the sky as people of Domino chatted amongst themselves, laughing and joking. Duels went off to the side of the roads, excitement buzzing in the air.

Speaking of buzzing...

"...zzz.....snerk.....zzz..."

"...Daisuke?"

"...Zz...argh...mm..."

"...Daisuke?"

"Mom, you're doing it wrong, let me."

Daisuke quickly awoke as a bucket of water, sputtering and sitting up, gasping as he looked up at his grinning older brother. He glared at him for a moment, but his mother interjected.

"Daisuke, it's a beautiful day outside and I won't let you sleep through it all day! Go out, enjoy the nice day while I...clean your sheets, I suppose..." She sighed and gave her younger son a playful smack upside the head.

He nodded his head and sighed. Shame, he was having such a peaceful dream and sleep. Ah well, maybe while he was out, he'd have a little fun. Maybe meet some new people, old people...maybe even get a duel in! That'd be amazing.

So he quickly scrambled to get his deck, sifting through them to make sure everything was still in there (and it was), grabbed his Duel Disk and quickly rushed out the door as his mother began to yell at his older brother for ruining his sheets. Giving a quick hello to his father, he rushed out the house and took a deep breath.

"Another awesome day..." He sighed to himself with a grin on his face, pocketing his deck and slipping his hand behind his head. "Warm...sunny...people all about...heh, this is gonna be awesome." He mumbled to himself as he walked down the path, humming to himself.

Funny how a day can go from good to bad in such a short amount of time.

...So if I can get Necroshade in graveyard as fast as possible, I can easily summon Blade Edge later... Justin thought as he thumbed through his deck, duel disk already strapped to his arm. He was currently trying something foreign to him; strategising.

It was already annoying him, and all he'd done is try and work out the most efficient way to summon a monster that was powerful without the need for fusion. Then again, how strategic could he be with his current cards?
Bah, screw it. Justin mentally sighed, returning the deck to the disk. I'll just play whatever I'm given. No point messing with a working formula.

Now all Justin needed was an opponent... He scanned the streets as he walked passed, hoping to find another duelist.

Thus far? No such luck in terms of finding someone. Everyone was off doing their own thing with their own friends, their own jobs and their own activities. Frowning a little, and yet refusing to give up on the hope of meeting new people. After all, what else did he have to do?

So, with a sigh, he stood on one end of the street, waiting for the light to change. His eyes scanning over the people. On their cellphones, with their friends...finally, his eyes locked on a younger kid. On his wrist, a duel disk, with no one else around him. He looked a bit lost himself.

Perfect! he thought to himself. Maybe this kid needs a friend. Hell, even if he didn't, he had a duel disk. What better way to pass the time than with a duel? So, anxiously crossing the street (and nearly getting hit by a car), he made his way across it.

"heya!" he said to the boy, the grin on his face.

Justin glanced at the boy who greeted him, noting his duel disk. With a grin of his own he said, "hi there. Looking for a duel?"

He gave him a quick, excited nod of his head. "Yep!" he said, a little too enthusiastic nod of his head. "How about right here...' To Emphasis this, he grabbed the deck from his vest pocket and held it up in front of him, proudly. "Right now?" He slipped his deck into the deck holder of his Disk.

Several of the people saw that two duelists were getting ready. Naturally, they'd make it necessary to move around the two. Dueling was Serious Business in Domino after all.

"Oh, right." he said with a nervous grin of his head. "My name's Daisuke, by the way!"

James and Carol were walking through the area when he saw the two people talking. James had managed to dodge some Paparazzi who were inquiring into his big game plan for the tournament. He supposed it was only natural for the people to want to see the champion's tactics and strategy. He was definitely going to win that big tournament, and show the world he was James Lancaster, not James the Son of Trevor Lancaster. He would be champion on his own merits.

As it stood now, Domino was flooded with prospective opponents and foes for him to test himself against. Practice made perfect, or it would if his deck was not already perfect.

Carol was now eying one particular kid. Odd spiky hair, quite handsome according to her, and he already brought along another pretty face.

She started to walk over to Daisuke. James followed after her.

"Of course!" Justin replied enthusiastically as he readied his duel disk. The younger boy moved away a few feet to create space for the images that would soon display.
"My name's Justin," He informed opponent. "And not that you'll need it, but good luck!"
It had been a while since his last victory, but Justin wasn't concerned with winning. To him, the outcome wasn't as important as the events preceding it.

"Nice ot meet you!" he said as he threw his duel disk into position, grinning as he prepared to draw his opening hand. "N Ow let's-"

He paused mid sentence when he felt another presence around. Looking over his shoulder at two people that seemed to be walking to the two of them. They looked like twins, one boy, one girl. The girl...ahem, a bit...well, words kinda died in his mouth. As his Duel Disk set itself up, he chuckled nervously.

"Um...' He said. "Hello." he waved to the two new comers.

Carol beamed at his reaction, oh he was a good one. He could tell beauty when he saw it!

She winked at him, "Hello yourself, handsome."

James sighed, here we go again. She would find a reasonable good looking guy, and drama would unfold.

An older teen stood in his room, holding a boxing stance while tossing out a few punches. He was bubbling with energy and was grinning ear to ear. This would be a good day, he could feel it.

Grabbing his maroon hoodie, he bounded down the stairs of the small house. He stopped to see his mom, fussing over his little sister's hair. "Ma, Cindy is old enough to do her own hair now, don't-cha think?"

The woman, who was wrinkly before her time, sighed as her son began the morning ritual of questioning her every move. "Simon, Cindy likes when I do her hair for her. Don't you, Cindy?" The voice was inflected with just a tinge of authority.

The six-year old girl nodded and stuck her tongue out at her brother. "You're just jealous that Mommy doesn't like you enough to do your hair too!"

The teen feigned a hurt look. "That stings, you little munchkin!" He pinched her cheeks a bit then looked at his mother, his voice becoming serious again. "Davis said that there was going to be some duels going down on the south side of the city, so I'll be there if you need me."

Before the mother could object, Simon was out the door, having snatched his duel disk and deck from the counter before he left the house.

After a while of walking, he came upon a large group of people gathering around a duel that seemed to be starting. He noticed a girl near the center of it and tried to get close to her so he could get a view of the battle. "So who're these kids?" he asked Carol.

Carol turned red, another one~

She said, "Oh, these two are some duelists, I was going to watch..."

James looked at Simon and asked, "Would you like to have a match? To tell the truth, I've been looking for some practice before my big tournament debut. The name's James Lancaster. What would yours be?"

A little, awkward blush crossed his cheeks as she called him handsome. Before he could comment anymore, ANOTHER person came by, questioning what was going on. Wow, we're getting pretty popular out here!

The boy, James, questioned the new kid if he wanted to duel. Well good! Everyone was gonna have a good time. His attention turned back to the kid, laughing nervously. "Sorry! Didn't mean to get distracted! Kinda like that, bit...thick, I think my big brother calls it. B Ut still! Let's duel!"

His Duel Disk snapped into position, and he drew his opening cards, grinning. Now was his time to shine!

"Don't worry about it," Justin said with a shrug. They were already gathering a crowd. Almost made him want to try and win, rather than make things difficult.

With his deck shuffled and life points reading 8000, Justin was ready. "So, who'll begin?", he asked Daisuke.

MichaelDj54 Since: Mar, 2010

"If you don't mind, I'll go first!" he said as he drew his new hand, looking at what he had to work with. Nothing to bring out the big guns yet, but it was enough to build a nice little wall.

"I summon Gem-Knight Garnet in attack mode!" In a burst of fire, a warrior wearing bright red armor appeared in front of him, his hands aflame. (1900/0)

"Then I'll set one card facedown and let you have a go at it!" This was the best part: Seeing what deck he would be up against. It was so exciting!

A 'Gem Knight'? That's a new one... Justin thought as the monster was summoned. And those attack points... Neither of the monsters he drew could stand up to that. Well, lets what the deck would offer...

Justin drew a card upon his turn. Seeing the monster he drew, Justin instantly recognised a few options to take. He could summon this monster in attack mode, lay a trap and hope Daisuke fell for it... or summon it in defence mode and hope he didn't summon a stronger monster. Either way, as long as this particular Hero could survive until his next standby phase...

Well, sometimes being too obvious is the greatest trick of all. Maybe. Justin mentally shrugged. "All right, I summon Elemental Hero Woodsman in attack mode!"

As Justin placed the card on his Duel Disk, a green skinned man appeared, his right half covered in wood, like some form of armour.

ATK/DEF: 1000/2000

"Next, I'll also place a card face down." Justin , laying a card in his spell/trap zone. There was a spell card he could use to instantly summon the other two monsters in his hand, but experience had taught him that doing so tended to end badly. In the worst case scenario, he could save them for when he needed to stall for a turn.

"I'll end my turn here." Justin concluded with a wide grin. "Now let's see what else you've got!"

I could attack... Daisuke said as he eyed that facedown that he placed facedown. But I have no way of knowing what that card does. It could be a bluff, or it could be something that could wreck my future combos... A wary glance to his hand. I can't risk it, least til I get another monster capable of attacking.

"I summon my own monster in defense mode, Gem-Knight Sapphire!" Another monster appeared before him, this one curled up in defense mode. Like Garnet beside him, his armor was white, and in the middle of his chest was a sapphire gem.

(0/2100)

"I end my turn with that."

That's all I really CAN do. until I draw one of my spell cards, I have to hope my guys will be enough of a shield...And even then, he's got Woodsman out! That means he's gonna get Polymerization next turn, so I'll probably see one of the Elemental Hero Fusions, those things are legendary! Flame Wingman? Thunder Giant? What will he bring out? I can't wait!

He's not attacking... Justin noted, glancing at his opponent's Gem monsters. ... But he isn't switching Garnet to defence mode either. That'll do.
Justin drew his next card. Another Hero card, effect would be useful in conjunction with Woodsman if they could last. But before that...

"Now my Woodsman's effect activates!" Justin declared. "During my standby phase, I can add a Polymerisation to my hand from my deck or graveyard!"

Justin then searched his deck for the appropriate spell card, adding to his hand before re-shuffling his deck and replacing it. With a triumphant grin, Justin then stated, "Time to put it to good use! I fuse my Elemental Hero Avian and Burstinatrix!"

Justin then placed the three cards into his graveyard, while a holographic projection of his heroes were shown combining in some sort of vortex.
He had two choices of monster to choose. Phoenix Enforcer or Flame Wingman. While Enforcer couldn't be destroyed in battle, it was still vulnerable to spells and traps, and if Daisuke had a monster destroying card...

At least this way, Justin had a chance to deal more damage, so he chose Flame Wingman. Like woodsman, the Flame Wingman was mostly green, with a red right arm that ended in a dragon head, as well as a white wing on his left shoulder.

2100/1200

"As you may know, Flame Wingman's ability allows me to deal damage to your life points equal to a monster of yours that he destroys in battle." Justin informed Daisuke. "Like so! Wingman, Skydive Scorcher!"
With a loud battle cry, the Flame Wingman ascended, before diving at Gem Knight Garnet, dragon-hand outstretched.

And if that doesn't work... Justin thought, glancing at his hand. "I can always summon Ocean before ending my turn. I can still block one attack, and I can recycle Polymerisation and one monster before something happens. Let's hope I get a good draw again...''

Oh man, Flame Wingman! This is so cool!

He didn't think it was cool a moment later when the attack actually connected to his monster. The monster screamed as he was roasted alive in his suit of armor, before he violently exploded into bits of his gem name-sake.

Daisuke screamed himself as a pillar of fire erupted at his feet and shot into the sky. He grit his teeth as he stopped, but the damage was indeed done. All he had was Sapphire and his facedown card. Sapphire would be able to survive Flame Wingmans attacks, but he would be in trouble if he let Woodsman grab his Polymerization again.

"Heh...nice shot...' He grunted as he adjusted the glasses sitting on the edge of his nose.

"Thanks." Justin grinned as Flame Wingman returned to its original position. "Too bad you're effectively invincible with that guy there though."
Justin merely shrugged. "Ah well. Guess I can consider it safe to summon my Elemental Hero Ocean, at least!"

Justin placed the card in attack mode, and a white armoured, humanoid-aquatic creature appeared before him, wielding a white, crescent staff.

1500/1200

"And with that, I end my turn!" Justin declared. Things were looking good so far. 2100 life points in the lead, had Flame Wingman out on the field already, and within two turns, Woodsman and Ocean would bring back both his Polymerisation and the heroes used to summon Wingman. Justin was anticipating the counter attack, eager to see how and if this could be reversed.

Simon grinned at the blond guy. However, his mind was trying to remember where he had heard that name before. "Sounds ace. I'm warning you though, you won't be prepared to face my deck. I've got cards that most people have never even heard of, yet alone seen before."

His hand slipped into his pants pocket and pulled out a little scanner, which slotted over the right glasses lens. His simple white duel disk sprang out into the locked position as Simon dropped into his low dueling stance.

James smiled widely, this was gonna be good, he had been wanting to duel against someone with cards like that. It meant he could get a lot of enjoyment out of it. This guy was also looking rather confident in himself. It was time to show off his skills.

He readied his duel disk, "I hope you're ready for the pain of defeat!"

"Draw!" he exclaimed, snatching the top card off his deck, looking at the situation before him. A minster capable of intense burn damage. Another monster with the effect to grab the spell necesary to pull out his strongest monsters, and another that would let him take another hero from his grave. He was going to get something on this next turn, unless he got the best draw of his life. So, he looked at his card.

...eh, not the best...but it'll help.

"I activate my trap card-Birthright!" he shouted as his trap lifted. "this card works like call of the haunted, but for my normal monsters, like Garnet!" a flash of light, and the red warrior appeared again. (1900/0)

"next, I play my decks main spell card, Gem Knight Fusion!"

Justin raised an eyebrow at the return of Garnet. There were a few possibilities as to why he'd bring it back, considering Flame Wingman's superior fire power. It wasn't like it had an effect, after all...

Ah. Justin soon learned why it was brought back. Some form of specialised fusion. Chances were, it would no doubt defeat Flame Wingman in battle. His trap would prevent that, but...

Well, let's just see what I'm dealing with! Justin thought, grinning with anticipation.

MichaelDj54 Since: Mar, 2010
#24: Oct 15th 2011 at 6:15:39 PM

I can make one of four fusion. Two can beat all of his monsters, 2 are good at defense. I think I'll go with....oh hell, who am I kidding, I love summoning this guy!

"I fuse together Gem-Knight Garnet and Gem-Knight Sapphire to summon....Gem-Knight Ruby!"

Both of the monsters exploded into the mineral of their namesake, colliding into the air and forming what appeared to be a taller, bulkier version of Garnet. His attire was bright red, he wore a tattered cape around his shoulders, and holding up a massive battle axe. (2500/1300)

"Heh, I love this guy.' He mumbled to himself before he pointed to his opponent. "Attack..." he paused. Who SHOULD he attack? Flame Wingman was a huge threat, but Woodsman would grab Polymerization...and he would have all the requirements to summon Terra Firma. So...

"Attack...Woodsman!" The Gem-Knight flew forward, battle axe lifted high...

#25: Oct 15th 2011 at 7:00:32 PM

...That looks pretty tough. Justin thought as the Gem Knight was summoned. Yeah, definitely too strong for Flame Wingman.
Ah, it was attacking Woodsman. Made sense, seeing as that would deal the most damage, and remove Justin's chance to recycle Polymerisation.

It was a good thing Justin had that handy trap card.

"Activate, Hero Barrier!" Justin declared, a sphere of light appearing around Woodsman, deflecting the attack.
"Hero Barrier prevents you from destroying one of Elemental Heroes." Justin grinned. "Guess you'll have to wait another turn to get rid of one of 'em."

Unless I can get rid of that guy first... Justin thought, trying to go over his options. Let's see... Woodsman and Ocean could fuse into Terra Firma, and his effect would destroy that Gem Knight, at the cost of Flame Wingman... was it worth it?
