Read about this on The Escapist. Someone on it said that he didn't strike the first blow, but the only source cited was this one, so I'm not sure where they were getting that from.
That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulWell among other things, the fact that people felt it was necessary.
Hey, look at the other story on the side Co-oolll. [1]
Well, at least they didn't arrest Electron Boy. (No seriously, google it...Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming story that also happened in Seattle.) To whoever made the post with the pothole implying Seattle is a Wretched Hive...it has its problems, I think, but I'm under the impression that it's not that bad for a major American city. I think the abundance of heroes can be attributed instead to a general sort of quirkiness...
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series. On the one hand, there's a much much longer, somewhat better quality video linked to in the article.
On the other hand, this one actually did a much better job of showing him doing something useful.
Flora Segunda | World Made By Hand | Monster Blood Tattoo ^You should read these series.Eh, Seattle's got issues. I used to live there. A cop lived three houses down; his house got invaded and him and his family were shot execution-style. According to what I read it was a gang initiation. This was a few years ago though, maybe they've cleaned it up since.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~If anyone watched the whole video on The Escapist, note that the "Superhero" does not mace the fighting people until they spend a minute or so drunkenly flailing at him and beating him with shoes.
...Did he try asking them to stop? I couldn't tell, the camera had poor sound quality at that distance.
They assed first. I am only retaliating in an ass way. -The Dead Man's LifeAnd this is why Batman keeps his Secret Identity a secret.
And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)This "Seattle superhero" bullshit has been going on for a while now. I'm glad one of these morons was finally arrested. Real Life is not a comic book, in case no one bothered to inform them. Their claims of "no, it's cool, we know the risks and are prepared for them" just make it more tragic....not to mention faintly creepy.
Batman's cool to read about and watch, so long as he isn't real. Myself, I'm fucking glad he isn't; I dislike the idea that someone could swoop out of the night and kick my ass because he thought I deserved it.
That's also known as premeditated assault, which lots of people find objectionable. Like courts of law.

If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~It's foolishly naive to believe that you can change a city by putting on a cheesy costume and calling yourself a "Super" hero.
I love super heroes, but here's the thing; they are FICTION. In the real world, if you want to make a difference in your city, you have to be able to speak out openly, form crime watches, etc.
Tropers watching movies^^ Lame.
I know this isn't exactly the most rational or well-considered option, but I have to respect the determination and courage this takes. There are no financial rewards, no help, and large risk of injury or death. Not to mention that serious fights pretty much always fall between "anxiety-inducing" and "balls-out terrifying". It takes quite a commitment to risk violence to oneself alone like that. Kudos to them.
Besides, sometimes the police just don't cut it, be it through workload, incompetence or turning a blind eye. I live in Australia, for instance, where guns are unavailable to civilians apart from some very limited and restricted forms for sportsmen and farmers. Just last week, a place 20 minutes away from my house by foot was raided by SWAT teams. They had confiscated firearms, some of them assault rifles. It's brilliant they got them, mind, but what were assault rifles doing in civilian hands in the first place? That is one hell of a fuckup in a country where guns of any kind are supposed to be for military and police only. Quite apart from all the corruptions and cherry picking that's gone on here, like my the police refusing to help my older brother because he had a criminal record.
Like I said, I'm not convinced this is the best option and I'm well aware of the potential issues. But what I'm glad for is that some people worked up their courage, chose their values and are doing what they consider right without any mind to profit. At the end of the day, these stupid fucks are out on the street and putting themselves in the line of danger. It's not government-sanctioned, but hey, America was founded on the unruly citizenship taking control.
As much as I recognise the issues, I think these guys also deserve respect for what they are doing. That is without heed to money, injury or mockery, getting out there and fighting the bad guys. It's nerdy and naive and dumb, but I think that's brilliant.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchI actually made a Batman-ish outfit, complete with gadgets and "weapons", a couple of years ago. It wasn't meant to be a superhero suit or anything, we just thought it as cool. And being engineering students, we wanted to see if we could do it.
...When you're 16, everything seems like a good idea, especially if it has a huge chance of injuring you.
Anyway, someone called the police when they saw me accidentally fire the shoddily-built net gun. Luckily, it didn't work at all when I was asked to demonstrate it.
Later, I tripped and fell while using it, causing the PVC pipe to shatter, and giving me a scar on my right hand.
Basically, having a costume does not make you a superhero. Or even competent. While I don't support what these guys are doing, at least they're equipped to handle it.
^ Breaking up fights and chasing down hit-and-run drivers is doing the police's work, but hunting criminals down and shooting them is A-OK?
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffI'm not supportive of vigilante crime fighting, because although idealistically it feels like a good thing to do for society, there are a lot of ways it can go wrong. It's like somebody running their own little clinic without any formal medical training. If you want to fight crime, that's awesome, join the police force.
There are good reasons why superheroes are a work of fiction, and should remain a work of fiction.
Also, there is nothing acceptable about going up to innocent people and spraying them with pepper spray. I don't understand why many of you guys are overlooking this detail. This guy does not deserve to be complimented for going around and assaulting people who have not even committed any crimes.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.

He was the hero that Seattle deserved, but not the one it wanted.
