Hardly anybody watches anything for the depressing realism. I see your point, though. I dunno...
I liked Wash, but knowing that he was going to die way before I ever watched any Firefly kinda put a damper on the emotion of the scene.
He's like fire and ice and rage. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time. Rory punched him in the face.It wasn't just a random spike, it was from one of the Reavers, whom they were trying to evade.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!I always figure that if I were introducing someone to the show, if at any time they felt like quitting, I'd have them skip to Jaynestown, or if they were past that, Trash.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIt's especially hilarious, with an emotional tinge. The same is true for Trash, and to a lesser extent, Our Mrs. Reynolds.
Fresh-eyed movie blogTo me Jaynestown shows some nice development in Jayne's character, a lot more of development for Kaylee/Simon and just the overall hilarity and absurdity (which is noticed by Simon hilariously) of Jayne being a hero with some added emotional feel. (plus I loved Inara's subplot with the Magistrate's son).
This show keeps getting better for me.
My favourites are Ariel, what with Simon moonlighting as a criminal mastermind and all, Out Of Gas, Our Mrs. Reynolds and Serenity - the pilot. Jaynestown was good, but the environment a bit... I dunno, didn't appeal to me, and I've found other episodes much better. Still funny as hell, though. Then there's Bushwhacked, pretty good, and Objects In Space, and Heart of Gold... Trouble is, with shows that good, it's tough to pick favourites.
Let me explain! ...No, there is too much. Let me sum up!The hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne...
I think I do like Ariel very much. Not sure if I think it's the best, but off the top of my head it's very good. All of them are, of course, but... oh, and Objects in Space. I wish wish wish we could have seen more of River being a creepy genius.
He's the Doctor. He could be anywhere in time and space. My favorites are Ariel, Objects in Space and Trash. My least favorite is The Message, when i recently started watching Firefly again, I stopped there and I haven't continued since. IDK why, but something about that episode...
You lost!I really liked...well, them all, I think. I can't pick a favorite. That's not really a statement for the show, though. I don't have a favorite movie or anything like that either.
Now that I think about it, one of the nice things about Trash is that it gave a taste for what the show could have been. At only, what, the twelfth episode or so it was already delving into Continuity Nods and recurring characters. Not just Saff, but the whole Ariel bit at the end as well.
I know I'm a little late to the party (I only watched Serenity this weekend and didn't want to get into discussions without watching it), but I'll throw in my two cents regarding Wash dying. I hate spoilers, but I accidentally found out about it and was pissed off. But I watched Dollhouse completely cold with no spoilers at all (quite an achievement, for me) and Bennett's death was so sudden and shocking, like Wash's, that it haunted me for a week or so afterward. So in a weird way I'm not sad that it was spoiled for me, because I really liked Wash. A little bit of warning kind of prevented me from having to pause the movie and get over it so I could watch the awesome scenes that followed.

And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.I finally watched War Stories and what can I say
It was great not only did I see more of the relationships between Zoe and Wash/Mal but Inara's subplot was hilarious and nice plus the I'll Be in My Bunk gag was great ad now I'm one step closer to finishing this show.
I'm going to be honest and say that I really wish Objects in Space wasn't so focused on River.
I mean, I don't mind her, but I felt the villain of that episode was interesting, and he was wasted by having the plot focus so much on how awesome River is.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."What show were you watching?
Objects in Space is about how much trouble River is causing them, and then it turns out she can pull her own weight.
And then the whole thing is dipped in Whedonistic Existentialism Fondue.

Fresh-eyed movie blog

It is depressingly realistic in that regard, though.
