Wakko's Wish was brought up in the thread for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish due to the similar premise (a lot of characters competing for a wishing star). What I found weird about that movie is that Dot being sick and dying is completely unironically Played for Drama, even though she, like her brothers, is normally a practically immortal Zany Cartoon character.
She was never really sick though. She needed an operation... to make her even cuter by adding a beauty mark. Notice that she instantly feels better in the end without any medicine or shots or anything like that.
Also dot seems to be able to exaggerate her cough for a gag "I'm the cute one, with the cough. But you gotta admit even the cough is cute. Hack hack wheeze." If the harsh coughing was an act, the smaller coughs were likely an act too. (And yakko mentions how she's had acting lessons too which paid off in the end.)

I have only seen the movie once, so maybe I misremembered how much it was Played for Laughs / Played for Drama.
Anyway, Season 3 of the reboot show has been out for a while now, has anyone watched it? I'm halfway into it now, and it has quite a few fun segments, like the "Groundhog Day" Loop two-parter starring Pinky and the Brain.
I also got exposed to two spoilers thanks to YouTube, a surprise cameo by Slappy Squirrel and the Sudden Downer Ending in the final episode.
Not that it really matters. If the show gets a second revival they'll just Hand Wave it somehow. They run on Rule of Funny after all.
Okay, I liked the Writing Around Trademarks jokes about Brawl and Bash Siblings, the world-famous carpenter sisters María and Luísa, Jackass Monkey and Beastwipenote .
Just watched the final episode. Interestingly, it's not just the last Warners segment that ends with an Earth-destroying disaster; in the first segment, the Warners barely save humanity from getting completely obliterated by aliens; in the second segment the Warners accidentally create a vortex that sucks in every character from the reboot. It's almost as if the writers had three different ideas how to give the show a Sudden Downer Ending, and they decided to include all three.

Its on a platform not accessible to most people so the lack of notice is probably the reason why.
