Supposedly Paul Rugg has said there's a reboot in development. He doesn't know if it'll make it out, though.

But, if you want me to be honest, Freakazoid could only have been made once. Its conception of the Internet is very mid-90s, and I can't really imagine the premise working with the modern Internet. (If Freakazoid absorbed all the information on the modern Net... it wouldn't be a pretty sight.)

That plus the way the original show turned out the way it did was that they kind of made it up as they went along. The making was very spontaneous, and that's going to be hard to replicate intentionally.

I could totally imagine the premise working with the modern internet. Seeing as how the actual internet almost never comes up in any Freakazoid episode.

"Got his powers by something something hacking something something internet something something" is just Freakazoid's deliberately paper-thin origin story. It has no actual bearing on his character or the plots of his stories. You could have him get his powers by getting a papercut from a radioactive tax form and it'd serve the same purpose.

I really hope this show gets a fully orchestrated original score, like the original Spielberg produced shows did.

I know it was one of the many reasons the show was so expensive to produce, but really set it apart from just about everything else out there.

To the point where one of the last episodes was dedicated to how awesome the scoring was. It's one of my favorites.

[up] Speaking of amazing scoring, I was looking at Animaniacs videos on youtube, and stumbled across this gem.

I don't remember ever seeing this skit before.

They're going to have to get someone new. Richard Stone is long dead.

Of course, I'm not certain companies are willing to pay for an orchestral score, no matter how few people they can keep on the payroll.

[up] I'm pretty sure the only reason animaniacs did was that Spielberg insisted on having an full orchestral score for all of the shows he produced for Warner Brothers.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if they will be keeping the animated variety show format?

[up] I imagine they will, but I'm not sure if every bit from the 90's will return. They'll probably add new characters too, although whether they'll feel like they belong or not is something we'll only find out after the show launches.

[up] Beyond The Warners and Pinky and the Brain, and ideally Slappy, Is there any other segments worth bringing back?

[up]x2 I imagine the writers will bring back Mindy and Buttons; even though I don't like Buttons constantly suffering for doing the right thing, the writers seemed to love that show back in the '90s (probably because it was really easy to write). Maybe if they Pet the Dog (pun intended) at the end instead of scolding him, it'd be better.

I'd be surprised if Mindy and Buttons didn't come back.

at the very least, can we all agree that we would be loosing very little if the Hip Hippos were dropped entirely?

The impression I'm getting is that the focus will be Yakko,Wacko and dot,the variety performances will be reduced considerably,I think some of them ended being filler anyway

I feel like the segments I realistically see them bringing back are Slappy Squirrel, Good Idea, Bad Idea, Chicken Boo, and/or (if they aren’t planning on saving them for their own revival) Pinky and the Brain, since those are the most iconic segments of Animaniacs besides the Warners themselves. Maybe Mindy and Buttons, too.

The poster for Animaniacs 2020 has Pinky and Brain on it. It's safe to say they'll be coming back.

[up]Thank you!

The poster seems to indicate an art style close to the original. I like it.

In my country, Animaniacs aired on TVR 2. The Boomerang version had a different dub recorded at BTI Studios. Only the first 26 episodes were dubbed here. It's a Riddle for the Ages of why it suddenly stopped.

The Colin segments where he talks about something that happened to Randy Beaman could make a comeback too, always liked those.

If it does, they should check out Left 4 Dead 2 and take some notes. In every level, Ellis shares a story about "My buddy Keith", and those always felt to me like an evolution of those Randy Beaman bits.

  • Ellis: I ever tell you about the time my buddy Keith drowned in the Tunnel of Love? You wouldn't think it would happen cause the water's so shallow, but that's how he gets you, man: Over confidence. Keith was with his lady at the time and he was yelling for her to save him but she didn't wanna get wet—
  • Coach: We ain't got time for this, Ellis.
  • Ellis: Okay.

So if it's true that they are going to move away from the variety show angle, to focus more on Warners and Pinky and the Brain, what do you guys think that would actually look like?
