The Sufferer & the Witness was my first taste of them. I have to say Appeal to Reason was a good album.
Untitled Power Rangers StoryI was well into punk when I first heard them. i had 3 bad religion CD's, all major label The Offspring CD's, and some old Ramones vinyl from one of my cousins
Untitled Power Rangers StoryI was just listening to them earlier to day and thinking "these guys have been out for a little while but it doesn't seem like people really acknowledge them."
That's just how I feel. I mean, their video for "September's Children" lost to Lady Gaga's Born this Way in the category of Best Video with a Message at the 2011 MTV VM As. I know it's a fan-voted award... but still.

That, or that Lady Gaga is just absurdly popular. Rise Against, contrary to popular wisdom, isn't really mainstream. Their stuff is on the radio, but sporadically and not on the pop stations. Most people I've talked to have heard Prayer of the Refugee and Savior, and that's about it. Maybe Re-Education (Through Labor) if they're lucky.
I am now known as Flyboy. It says it on the music video, when you search the chours, and on the radio if you have RDS on.
Untitled Power Rangers Story~shrug~
Most of my friends have heard Swing Life Away, but couldn't tell you who did it until you say. I guess this may not be representative of the general population, but I've found that usually people will hear a song, get it, but unless they hear it a lot and it's on their iPod—which assumes they listen to that at lot—they won't actually know much about who did it.

Yeah, radio rotation can vary from place to place, but you really don't see Rise Against videos that much on television. I've seen September's Children, Refugee and Savior on MTV in a paltry amount in the past few years. FUSE and video on-demand services show them pretty often though. So, them being considered mainstream is super-subjective. I kinda feel that they are.

Not just that though. I also like to sit in front of the TV with the (rock) music video channel playing. They play Rise Against videos on there quite regularly as well (more than I see Metallica or Linkin Park videos anyway).
Maybe they're just a lot bigger in Canada.

Yeah, I think it's because you're in Canada, because the Rise Against message doesn't jive well with mainstream American politics.
Seconding that they're my favorite band, too.
I like Rise Against. My favourite album would probably be the sufferer and the witness.
In our heart, Mr. Ando will always be a penguin.

So, anyone else like this band? I definitely do. I've been listening to Endgame a bit recently, and it's definitely starting to grow on me. I don't know if it's as good as Sufferer and the Witness, but... it's pretty damn good.
