But if I try to build a fast food franchise by plagiarizing Burger King's marketing, they'll have a legitimate infringement claim.
"Come to Burger Prince, home of the Whipper!"
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"But is the basic react/Q&A/activity format closer to Burger King marketing, or to a news anchor setting on a desk with a news image displayed next to him/her and some descriptive text below? (EDIT: In terms of generic-ness, I mean) And why am I arguing about the IP implications of a format that I'm not even that big a fan of for the most part?note
Also, to touch on an already settled issue, Burger King has the benefit of having its name include something not inherent to the concept of "meat patty sandwich".

World Whosball Champion 1945-1991@South Korean React: Hmmm... So that's what a similar video to theirs look like. I think if the creators improved their content based on its own specificities, it would become different enough (e.g.: non-Korean-speaking people would focus on the subtitles, meaning that you probably don't want much more information, especially spread all around the screen).
Although, I'd say the video is similar to FB's, but it isn't that similar in my opinion. Maybe I do agree with the assertion that their format is too generic for them to own. Or maybe it's a disagreement with the current state of copyright, trademark and fair use (which I don't have an informed opinion on). Or maybe with more examples I'd agree that this is too similar.
When Conan O'Brien moved from NBC to TBS, I don't think he changed his show's format that much. I guess NBC owns the recurring comedy sketch characters and the show's name, but other than that, there isn't that big a difference. If someone had copyrighted the late night talk show format, that couldn't have happen.
To get back on track, here's Mundane Matt's video about the backlash. At least he's fair with them.
I can't help but be amused by the comments and how baffled they are that you can claim no ill intent and still find say what they did was shitty. Beacuse God forbid someone actually try to take a moderate stance to things.
I haven't watched the video, I don't know if he's genuinely being hypocritical or not. This is just one of my Berserk Buttons, one that keeps getting pressed. Society has conditioned us to jump to a side as quickly as possible and never let go. Depending on which side you take standing your ground is either being virtuous or being stubborn, changing your mind is either seeing the light or falling into darkness, and staying in the middle is either being weak-willed or being an opportunist.
I want to emphasize that I'm not trying to make any defenses here. I'm just not going to blindly jump on the bandwagon....especially when that bandwagon seems to be doing nothing but circle-jerking Holocaust jokes.

Holocaust jokes...because the Fine Bros are Jewish...
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
x2 God, if I learned anything reading the comments for that video, it's that all this drama is still a open wound and it's necroting with trolls and anti-semitism.
Guess VGA's words about leaving them be were completely ignored by some people.
"Come to Burger Prince, home of the Whipper!"
If anybody started up a channel called The Fine Moes' and did reacts videos, Fine Bros would have a strong case and I'd back them.
But the same way Burger King doesn't trademark the Burger part of their name or the idea of burgers, the Fine Bros shouldn't be tradmarking the word "Reacts" or the idea of reaction videos, they especially shouldn't be getting the most broad reaching and all encompassing trademark that they can.

*sigh* Yeah, I know what you mean. Even though the videos they are airing now were probably recorded before the shit hit the fan, it seems like a Dork Age is coming. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if some reactors, especially the teens, stop appearing in their videos.
... what?

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Teens React to Anitta (Brazilian Pop Star)
I don't listen to her songs, so I myself had never watched these two music videos of her. Actually after googling for a while none of the songs I thought were from her actually are (besides the ones they mention in the video, of course), and although I remember watching a music video with her at least once I appear to be misremembering because none of them seem familiar. I mean, if I hear one of her songs playing I might realize I know it out of hearing when people randomly play it around me, but that's it. Also apparently she made a tour in Japan? I'm always baffled when I discover [living Brazilian musician] is popular in [another country].
Eric: "I like how universal twerking is." Hey, we Brazilians were twerking before twerking was even a word
Elle: "A lot different than the music videos on Kids React." Pfff, this made me chuckle
Eric: "See, it's unfair, 'cause girls get all these really cool, fun giant plastic bubble dresses, and then guys it's like, oh, he gets a tank top."
Alix (thorought the video): She seems like a sex-negative feminist (and I mean this as a plain statement).
At 4:50 there's a small translation mistake they addressed but you might not notice it if you're in mobile.
Controversy: Well, I don't follow celebrity news in the first place, even less am I a fan of Anitta, so I have never heard of these. However, hair straightening has been something black movements have been fighting, here on Brazil at least. I'm not sure how one can whiten one's skin, except maybe lightning tricks in videos and photoshoots? I think the teens with the best responses to this were Nora and Moises.
Long story short, East Asia is really into fair skin (and this preference was already prevalent long before any major contact with Europe was ever made).

Yeah when someone else does the same generic format as you you win by doing it better, not by throwing lawyers at them. It'd be like if Burger King sued Mc Donalds out of existence instead of competing with them and thus allowing them and the burger based industry as a whole to grow and prosper.
