Unless I'm wrong, Pokémons have [Level + (HP stat*3)], while trainers have [(Con stat*4)+(level*4)]. Pokémons reduce damage by their Defense/Sp. Defense, while trainers do not, that's where the difference lies.

I should check the forums, though, it seems very low...

I have (Pokemon's Level)*(HP stat+3)... which, as it turns out, actually is wrong. Oops. Not the first time I've made a ridiculous math error, and I don't think it'll be the last, either. That one 'mon just has ridiculous base stats, as I am entirely entitled to know, both in-and-out-of-character (maybe?)

[up]One thing I noticed: You have too many Features - if you take a class you give up your feature for that level, which is why I only have 4.

If you came to this post looking for my character sheet, this post is almost hopelessly out-of-date. The latest information can be found here.

Since I've posted again, I'll paste Seth's data here instead:

[up]And Spheal's statistics look wrong, too - its base stats should be (7,4,5,4,7,3)...

I need to invest in some Dexterity, too, it would seem.

[up] Nope on that one. Evil paladin let me add my Natural Edge bonuses on my Boolie, since I hatched it myself (Kayeka got it too). That's a +2 to Sp. Attack and +1 to Defense. But congratulation on spotting that! smile

Thanks to your sheet, I've seen my pokémon has two more capabilities. That's why you should always peek at other characters!

I think this should be it as far as stats go.

  • Player: Hashil
  • Character: Anza Faraji
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Male
  • Height: 6'4 (193 cm)
  • Weight: 170 lbs. (77 kg)
  • Appearance: Anza possesses a physique alarmingly similar to that of a brown fleshed, brown eyed scarecrow's, with the long, clumsy legs, sun bleached straw hat, and unkempt hair (though his dreadlocks are a little thicker than the average head of straw) to match; and with much of the padding that could of been body fat torn out, leaving only little bits of muscle in the arms and legs.

He wears loose and baggy clothing when possible to hide how lanky he is, often with no greater fashion sense than the straw man he resembles. And like him, he's all very smiley and good natured about it, anyway.

  • Level: 6

      • Mystic, ?, ?, ?

  • Trainer Features: Aim For the Horn!(+, two feats) Remedial First Aid
  • Mystic Features: Channel + Borrow, Channel Friend, Mystic Veil
  • History: Anza was born in Unova, but was raised for most of his life in a remote tropical region to better develop his potent spiritual side. He was largely kept away from people throughout his training, and was all too eager to jump on the chance to become a trainer in a region of his choice once the first stage of his training concluded. Field training would be far more valuable than the solitary life he'd lead before, she assured him, and that the respect he'd learned from her would serve him well when dealing with others.

Try as his aunt might to keep him sequestered away from others, he made friends with a boy in a town not far from his mountainside home. A boy who so happened to be the son of a local shady trade tycoon, who was quick to instruct Anza about the ways of the world beyond the jungles and mountains he'd largely been brought up in. Unfortunately for much of the world, he takes the tradesman's lessons to heart more often than he does his aunt's.

    • Extra: Aura

  • Height: 2'9 (.8 M, Small)
  • Weight: 50 lbs. (21.7 kg, Weight Class 2)
  • History: Six years prior to his trip to Johto, and on his way home from a trip to the local mountain spring, Anza was ambushed by a frustrated Nyeri, sore off a fight with an older, stronger fighting type elsewhere on the mountain. Even tired and injured, the wild Pokemon managed to beat the boy fairly severely before Anza tricked him into burying himself beneath a rockslide. Anza took him home to help him recover, and, after throttling the Mienfoo for eating nearly every edible thing in his and his aunt's home, captured him formally two days later.

[up][up] Just a quick mistake: your Quirk only add 1 to your HP (I know, it's weird, but HP modifications coming from nature only shifts HP by one, and other stats by two).

As for your features... Three stats augmentation is rather odd. As opposed to games like D&D, I think you can accept to be "less than average" in a few stats. But hey, whatever floats your boat! Maybe it'll open you to more different advanced class, who knows. You have a planned build?

Hashil Since: Aug, 2010

Aah. Right. I'll change that in a second.

The Mystic doesn't get much in the way of feats that strike me as really useful until their Strength or Wisdom is high or they have a loyal, evolved Pokemon, so I was just stat building a little at first.

[up] I'm going for Move tutor, which needs 14 Charisma, so that's what that Charisma boost is for. I guess I'll take a couple of points from the more useless stats for Charisma, too.

Noted on the balanced stats. I might take some more points out of the ones he doesn't need for Charisma.

Added the links to the different profiles in the first post. Also, Boolie does not get Freezer; Powder Snow doesn't grant you the Capability, unfortunately.

In other news, I have the Johto trio completely set-up, unless deathpigeon joins them instead of Kanto. I even finished all the macros for your Pokemon (including Boolie). Set-up the tokens as well, including the changes to stats as put up so far. I hope you don't mind Dan being represented as HG!Gold, Talden.

I don't mind that the Pokedex works instantly, but I really don't like the whole "Please don't scan other people's pokemon". I mean, in the games, other trainers are your main source of 'seen' data. Also, "you opponent sends out a huge monster that you don't know anything about" doesn't have quite the dramatical impact of "Holy shit, it's a Steelix!"

Another point: do we get to make wishlists on the Pokemon that we want to own over the course of the game?

[up]Or you could simply start as a Capture specialist and earn money later.

Another final note of interest: I understand that we won't be able to pick our own Pokemon's nature. Now, I wouldn't have it any other way, but can we at least house-rule a little fail safe? I'm still rather iffed about the whole 'Impish Pichu' thing, and I'd hate it happening again. So rather then rolling a single time for nature, we get to roll three times and choose from the results?

Or even better, we get two 'mulligans'. You make a roll, we decide whether we like it or not, and if not, you roll again. If we don't like the second roll either, you roll a third time, but this time, we must accept it. This greatly reduces the risk of getting completely nature-screwed while it's still randomly decided.

Just made a quick run trough your sheet, Kayeka. The only mistakes I see are your Hit Points total: it should be 96 for your trainer, and 22 for your pokémon.

That's quite the scary combo you got there, by the way... I mean, Pichu is weak to a point rarely seen, but three different attacks + your ability that can cause paralysis? Ouch. I pray I won't have to fight you any time soon (especially since your Mikey would be probably be evolved at that point).

I have no particular opinions on the nature debate. I got a pokémon with a sub-optimal nature and the wrong ability (I wanted Thick Fat, for Arceus's sake!), but I had to cope with it. It's okay, you're supposed to love them even if they disappoint you... I wouldn't mind another roll to choose between two nature/ability, but that's it.

The Pokédex issue is another thing, but bear in mind scanning a pokémon is like looking at someone's identity card, medical records and curriculum vitae without asking. That's just rude. Simply ask its trainer if you're excited enough when you see a new species, that should be enough.

Scanning pokemon is simply looking up his name and type. As a species, not as an individual. and you don't even get most of the real info (height, weight, footprint, behaviour, seriously anything beyond species name and type) until you get one of that particular species yourself. I honestly don't see anything wrong with that, especially since it's a two-way street. All trainers want to become stronger, and for that, they need information. It's in their own best interest to allow a simple scan so that they can do such scans themselves as well.

Also, I don't want to be forced to Metagame. I mean, Oo C, we are all pretty much experts on anything Pokemon. We can guess the pokemon's identity with only a vague description most of the time. So if I know Oo C that the opponent has send out a Nidoking, I don't want to put up a half-hearted act like I don't know what's going on.

Just went a re-read the very little there's about Pokedex. You don't just get a name, you get all the information in the Pokedex entry (the .pdf one, that is). Which means not only his name and type, but also height, weight, abilities, and maybe a few things like age, nature, sex... I can understand why it would be an invasion of privacy. Besides, you might now in character what a pokémon's name is, but not always is type, origin and behaviour.

And, metagaming-wise, it's just a little something to prevent players to go to a random tournament, scanning everything in sight, and gain levels without doing anything. So... yeah.

[up]And what if we simply promise not to do that? None of us here are total munchkins that would pull a trick like that.

Look, I grew up on the anime. While I enjoyed the games, I couldn't help but feel they were rather limited compared to what the anime promised. The main reason why I'm interested in P:TA is because it removes so many of the arbitrary limitations found in the games, and provides an experience more closely to the anime/manga. So when the GM starts houseruling all sorts of other limitations that from my point of view don't make much sense at all (because two-way street), I start to get a little defensive.
