This show is weird. The first five or so episodes (of season one at least) make no sense at all until you've watched them all and maybe rewatched them, and much of the cast hasn't really been fleshed out yet. However, there are some great fight scenes and the political debates are pretty interesting. But then it throws giant boobs and mindless fanservice at you. But as both seasons have come to a close so far, they've been rather satisfying for sticking with the derp.

How in your face is the fanservice? It can really push me away if its too much.

I'd say try it. May be biased since I love this series, but the Fanservice has never felt too offensive to me in this show in particular.

A lot of the girls have really big boobs but that's about it. The lead is a pervert but he's usually the one naked, while one female character uses fanservice as a weapon (dear god one of her fights is still one of the most epic things I've ever seen). There might be more fanservice-y moments but they never really bothered me.

I'd say try it out! The first five episodes are indeed an exercise in patience, but like Medaka Box I'm soooo glad I stuck with it. The Horizon world and plot is quite unique, the cast is humongous and the show is really good at blasting you with heartwarming and awesome moments one after another (case in point: after the exposition-filled first five episodes, the remaining eight episodes of the season are pretty much one long stretch of CMOA and CMOH). It's enjoyable even with your brain turned off (Giant mecha! Psychic robot maids! Badassery! Epic confessions!) but if you're willing to dig deeper it becomes leagues more... colorful!

I'd suggest watching Horizon alongside Random Curiosity's notes to help you understand what's going on! Or you could be like me and read up on that crap.

NOTE: Yeah, I'm biased.

I'd say to give it a go. The fanservice is there, but it's not really given attention.

Do keep in mind the first few episodes are mostly introduction and take place on the same day, sorta parallel to each other.

If you're confused, this site and this Tumblr are a great help. The first gives an overview for the first season, while the second basically consists of questions and answers.

Save You From Anything.

Well, the second half of Horizon is done. I'll leave it for others to do the post-Mortem, but those familiar with the franchise say that that as of this point, we're at the end of the second "Volume" to the series, out of the four out so far. The sales of the series are good (20k and more apparently), so the ball is in Sunrise's court at this point whether or not they'd continue the franchise.

No news yet at ALL though from the usual places, even of a post-season event, but as pointed out to me, announcements like that usually take six months or more to come out anyway.

Such a clear example of a ' second third season please!' ending.

[up]

The figures are nothing to sniff at, but there have been examples in the industry of studios just sitting on a big-selling franchise and not doing anything with it.

please tell me that exceptionally well endowed woman is Neito's mom and that she becomes at least a semi regular character. so many cool things in the final episode and hoping hard for at third season. Suzu is kind of a mystery. how did she even know what Adele was planning when she didn't say anything? I'm also baffled at how Yoshinao managed to reduced her to tears in season 1 when he only looked at her.

Is this show any good, then?

Like, worth one's time? What's special, original, or memorable about it?

Yes it is, though I only was up to the end of the first season, though the characters themselves don't really develop all that much.

I'd also recommend the recently premiered K

Yes, but there's required reading need to do if you want fully appreciate it. See Marqo D's post further up this page for the links to said required reading.

Also, beware Hadena's subs for the first few episodes. They reach So Bad, It's Good levels of misunderstanding Japanese, but their fluency in English means that you may not notice how bad the translation is if you're not watching for it. Worse, it can be tricky to find any other subs.

Oh, if it's being compared to Medaka Box it must be good!

To give you a bit more detail:

It's an adaptation of a series of light novels that stretch the definition of the term to the absolute limit, with each volumne being thicker than your average Fantasy Doorstopper. So, it has, as you might imagine, a lot of the same advantages those have, detailed world, huge scale, and large cast size. But it also combines that with more typical LN adaptation fanservice and humour. However, it suffer from compressing that much material down into a relatively small running time, hence the required reading I mentioned before. In order to appreciate this show fully, you need to pay close attention to every detail, be good at extrapolating from offhand remarks, and willing to go research things you don't understand.

The draws of it are as follows: The setting is very creative, as it is simultaneously sci-fi, fantasy, historical, post-apocalypse, and high school drama. It also manages to allow each member of it's impressively large cast some time to shine, balancing the screentime so whoever your favourites end up being, one of them will get a moment every episode.

I would also recommend Zaruko's subs for season one. I watched Commie for season two but you might want to try another group if they are not to your liking.

Yeah, the Zurako blu-ray rips are the subs of choice for this. If only there were an official release of this series in Europe...

To the person who asked earlier: yes, that woman is Nate's mother. From what I've heard she's reasonably prominent in the third volume.

Am kind of wondering why Toori didn't use that ether/mana-pool ability thing of his at all after the first season's late episodes.

But yeah, I just marathon'd through this. At some point I just went "I don't care about the plot" and only paid attention to the jokes and fight scenes.

That alone is enough for me to want a season 3, really.

I don't know why Sunrise made a 13 episode show and then announced a second season's planning very soon though. As in, if you're gonna be like that, it would have been better off if they just went 26 episodes from the start. they have enough money to risk anyway

Basically because it wouldn't have helped.

Though he was apparently just it to help Horizon with that big attack at the end.

It's a power boost though.

By that logic, shouldn't every single case where your allies seem to be in a disadvantageous status be a time where that would be helpful?
