Hmm... question, would the embodiment of destruction be for just one book or all of them? The thought of there being the possibility for more than one is scary... and if there isn't then there's an excuse for this person to have sometimes-outdated knowledge about every world. Good to have a living encyclopaedia, right? XD
Just one book.
Sacrifice ensures that normally gods stay inside one book (because they can't die normally and they'll get too powerful if they can go into other ones). However in your case, yours can go to the other ones, sealed as he is.
That and not all the books have gods...

Always be ready to do the unusual and unexpected....It's kind of a dumb question, but would characters know they're in books from the beginning, or would they have to find out? Or would it be a case-by-case basis?
And would it be too much to ask if a character who finds out they're in a book thinks they're in one genre, when they're actually in a completely different one? Like, someone who thinks they're in a fluffy heroic adventure where good always triumphs over evil, except they're actually in something far more... Lovecraftian? >.>
@Moe:They'll find out. The books aren't the world, per se, but rather the souls of the world, the print in said tome displays what has already happened. If interference is invoked, the timeline after the present will change. They also serve as portals for dragging out characters.
And yeah, it'll be amusing seeing the characters respond to different genres than they intended...

Always be ready to do the unusual and unexpected.Hm...
So far, we have a mysterious library where books house the soul of a "world." People that die in one book get reborn in another book as another character in an endless cycle. Something has managed to rewrite a great many of the books, changing the paths the worlds have been taking. As such, worthy souls that are in the process of being reborn are thrust back into their latest body's incarnation and sent to do the biddings of the Librarian, who is the caretaker of the works.
Always be ready to do the unusual and unexpected....Yes. Though the more powerful your character, the greater their Sacrifice(s).
Example: If someone wanted to be able to talk with animals, then his Sacrifice would be that he cannot consume meat or he cannot communicate for a day with the beasties. And so on. The more restrictive your Sacrifice is, the greater the power your character gets.

Always be ready to do the unusual and unexpected.Kinda like the Contracts in Changeling The Lost, then? Except without the catches?
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.Would the way Sacrifices work allow for Loophole Abuse? I really like Rules Lawering. It makes me feel smart.

I was thinking more off a power-up time.
Like 9 months, no creations to build an Aircraft Carrier.
A Blackhawk would take a day, power armor 10 hours, AT/MANPADS half an hour.
This guy will be making use of Bottomless Magazines, though.
