Talk about Treasure Planet here.

You know, back when I was a kid I wasn't too impressed by this movie, but now? I think this is one of the coolest animated film EVER! Too bad it wasn't so popular due to being released alongside other blockbusters...

It's one of Disney's most underrated movies. Great characterization, great animation, and holy shit great music. Long John Silver is one of the better characters to appear in a Disney movie, Jim is one of their better protagonists, and the setting is engaging, fantastical, and exciting.

So Yeah, great movie.

I adore this movie. Probably Disney's best work in the Oughties. They broke a lot of new ground with it, content-wise, and it's a crying shame it wasn't better received. I think it suffered from being mismarketed—all the advertising I saw was during timeslots aimed at younger kids, and I think both the bildungsroman plot and the quirky setting went right over their heads.

Wouldn't be the first time a good film was screwed over by it's advertising.

I can't say all little kids completely lost it, though, because I knew several first-hand who didn't need more than the "OMG ALIEN PIRATES!" angle to be happy with it. tongue Delbert and Amelia are one of my favorite Disney couples.

I know I liked when I was a little kid. Seriously, this and Titan A.E. were the shit when I was younger.

Wow this came out of nowhere.

I really didn't care for the movie much.

I thought is was pretty good the only part I did not like was that the planet was rigged to explode.

I liked it quite a lot when it came out, haven't seen it since, though (I ought to pick up the dvd somewhere, now that I think of it...) I also liked Disney's Atlantis film...thought it was quite underrated, though it's humor did jar a bit sometimes. I think both movies suffered a bit from people's preconceived notions of what a Disney animated film should be. They've done the princess/talking animal thing so much and so well that they tend to get confused stares from people anytime they try to do anything else.

Haha, exactly. People sit down, expecting a "Disney movie", and think to themselves: "...The fuck is this? THIS IS NOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR!"

...I loved the movie, myself, as did my brother and best bud.

I also heard a lot of people griping about how "unrealistic" it was, e.g. "There's no air in space!" You'd think people who watch Disney movies would have enough imagination to get that it was a fantasy universe.

Wow, I guess Vindicated by History might end up repeating itself once again for the Disney Animated Canon with this entry like it did with Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi, especially since I was one of the very few people to be easily fascinated with this movie when I was lucky enough to see a private screening of it that my dad won tickets for from a radio station contest the following Saturday before it opened nationwide. I was a freshman in high school at that time.

I think it's already happening. Well, now that Nostalgia Filter seems to have kicked in for 2D animation.

I really hope Disney will be brave and make more movies like this one eventually. Sure Treasure Planet bombed at the box office, but that was just pure bad luck, what with lots of other block busters being released around the same time. Poor marketing of the movie also contributed.

I thought this movie was spectacular! A stunning, intricate blend of traditional animation and CGI, deep and interesting characters, and a fantastic setting. And all of the Steampunk and Cyberpunk gets extra bonus points on my end.

I know that people stereotype Disney movies as 'Talking animals and true love and happy endings!' but if Disney experimented a little like they did in a 90's with darker themes, maybe they could change that image and make more mature movies like this one.

Hey, Treasure Planet had talking animals! Captain Amelia was a cat and she talked. Likewise all the other animalistic aliens.

Treasure Planet is quite possibly one of my favorite Disney movies.

I loved the original story, I've loved many other adaptions of it thereof, and this is no exception.

Treasure Planet is one of my absolute favorite movies and pretty much the entire university I study at is the fanbase for the movie. The point at which I knew I loved the movie was the approach to the spaceport. I've never seen another shot like it in anything else.
