My idea for Moon Knight:

http://www.marvel.wikia.com/Marc_Spector_(Earth-616)

Theme: ??? (I may compose something later)

• Bio:

Real Name: Marc Spector

Image: (Something like http://www.fanpop.com/spots/moon-knight/images/21806126/title/moon-knight-face-icon )

Occupation: Banker/Taxi Driver

Abilities: Peak Physical Conditioning due to CIA Training. A master strategist. Power increases up to 10 times normal, depending on phase of the moon.

Weapons: MK has multiple weapons hin his disposal, but most used are his staff, his Crescent Darts, his Flash grenades, and his whip.

Profile: Marc Spector was working in Egypt when he discovered an ancient temple buried deep underground. His co-worker betrayed and killed him to keep the treasure, but was chased away. Locals took Marc inside the temple, and offered him to the Altar of Khonshu, god of the moon, wherein he was revived as the Moon Knight! He stalks the city, making sure no one harms the innocent.

First Appearance:

Werewolf by Night #32, 1975

Power Grid:

  • _______Intelligence: OOOO
  • -_________Strength: OOOO
  • ___________Speed: OO
  • _______Endurance: OOOOO
  • Energy Projection: OO
  • _____Fighting Skill: OOOOOO

Dialogue: He has sort of an arrogant tone which is sometimes comical, but underlies his seriousness. He regularly insults enemies as he is defeating them. I imagine him voiced by Phil LaMarr, a la Marvel UA.

Even now I'm still working on my Waka build. I've tweaked the gameplay a bit, reworked, reworded and renamed a number of the entries and even tossed in a crapload of potential dialogue. I'd even say it's my best build yet.

@ Alucard: As you noted, Waka sounds like a hit-and-run character of sorts, not unlike X-23. Of course, his low health means he'll be in trouble if he's caught, but it looks like Waka has options to get around this (and away from his opponent) as well as the ability to dish out good chunks of damage at a time without being a Gradual Grinder a la Dante and Zero. The idea of that combo accessing off of his dash linking to his magic series is intriguing. The fact that some of his more complex and effective moves have at least some degree of startup lag as a tradeoff means that he's not overly abusable and cheap. Overall, it think you have a good unit on your hands. There's not really much I feel needs to be critiqued, but I have a few key questions/things to point out.

I'm assuming that his aerial Atk + S version of Soaring Auger don't deal any chip damage on block due to being a command special.

Just to note, I don't think the speed of Flight is variable between any characters who have the ability in MvC3/Ultimate, so I'm not necessarily sure if Waka should have a speed advantage with the move. It sounds like it could be a potential unbalancing act. Most likely not, but you never know.

I take it that Waka can't change directions mid-flight (a la Jon Talbain's Beast Cannon/Ruby Heart's Flammelie/M.O.D.O.K.'s Limit Burst) with his Auger Tempest hyper, right?

The Alien Technology hyper makes me a little bit wary. Not because it's a bad concept, but because it seems like there's too many positives and little to no drawbacks for just one bar of meter. The saucer has a fairly large hitbox and it can ricochet off of walls at good speeds, which sounds like it could be one of those unavoidable mixups regardless of blocking low similar to how Wesker's Phantom Dress can cross-up players randomly. Additionally, the saucer can zone and play keepaway, and none of this is factoring in what Waka can do additionally; on paper, this resembles a new version of the infamous Strider Hiryu teleport + Doom Rocks trap. Maybe The Last Dance should be scaled back to a cinematic Level 1 hyper, and Alien Technology be bumped up to Level 3 status. I can understand why Strider Hiryu's Ouroboros (easily the crux of his rushdown and mixup game in Tournament Play) was turned into a Level 3 in Ultimate in order to balance it out, and this hyper, quite frankly, sounds like a nastier, trickier, and more versatile version of that.

In all honesty, I don't really see the Vergil comparisons outside of those daggers functioning like a toned-down version of his Summoned Swords. After all, it's not like Waka has all of these potential mixups due to teleporting shenanigans.

@ Wolf: So far, I like what you have (above average reach due to a weapon; that Glide ability as opposed to full-on Flight sounds tricky to pull off, but an invaluable tool when mastered), but Moon Knight seems very limited with only two special moves at his disposal (even if one of those has several options to it). I realize that this doesn't seem to be the finished product, so let me know when you finish it.

Mortal Kombat 9 Guest Fighter...Duke Nukem!

Regular attacks are punches and kicks. Specials are the Mighty Boot, shotgun blast, pipebomb, and something involing the jetpack.

X-Ray Move is a kick to the groin, which launches the opponent into the air, where Duke shoots a few organs with his pistol, then delivers a strong kick that breaks the ribs.

Finishers: Hail to the King- Duke freezes his opponent's legs with the freezethrower, shatters them. Then, as they're lying on the ground, Duke headshots them with a shotgun.

Field Goal- Blasts away the opponent's body with the Devastator, leaving only the head, which Duke punts like a football.

Babality- Baby Duke shoots a stuffed pig cop with a water pistol.

His prefight animation has him saying "Come Get Some!" while cracking his knuckles and spitting out his cigar. Any Groin Attacks landed on Duke will make a "clanging" noise, due to his Balls of Steel.

I'm assuming that his aerial Atk + S version of Soaring Auger doesn't deal any chip damage on block due to being a command special.
Sounds about right. Fighting games are pretty complicated so it's hard to catch all these details.

Just to note, I don't think the speed of Flight is variable between any characters who have the ability in MvC3/Ultimate, so I'm not necessarily sure if Waka should have a speed advantage with the move. It sounds like it could be a potential unbalancing act. Most likely not, but you never know.
I've heard that Nova has generally higher flight-speed than others to compensate for his walking speed, so I was thinking something like that. Because of Waka's emphasis on grace/beauty, he's not really the type to run quickly on the ground (especially in those tacky sandals). Kind of similar to Vergil's need to imitate an MK Walker.

I take it that Waka can't change directions mid-flight (a la Jon Talbain's Beast Cannon/Ruby Heart's Flammelie/M.O.D.O.K.'s Limit Burst) with his Auger Tempest hyper, right?
If he could, then the attack would become far too hard to control. It moves fast enough that the walls alone can suffice (roughly the same speed as the Phantom Dance). Because the move is so fast and completely relies on the player's input to work, it's quite potentially possible to waste it completely. The pay-off comes from the damage you'll give if all 9 strikes manage to hit.

Perhaps I could split the move entirely. The boarding version could be mapped to ⇐⇙⇓ + 2X ATK and be slightly larger to distinguish it while the Pinball/Sword-bouncing version could be a separate Hyper that uses a smaller ship. Overall though, I don't really like scaling back, limiting or making-less-effective a good concept or downgrading a high-damage attack like The Last Dance. So my preferred option would be to make them both LV3 Hypers ala Strider (which is funny considering the connection you made to Ouroboros). I'm sure the Auger Tempest could handle itself alone.

As far as his cloneliness is concerned, by this point that's just Deadpool being a jerk/fanboy (basically a parody of the clone-accusations that seem to pop up in this game). That's really just him being pissy because he used to be the only katana-user in the game (if you discount Zero's Z-Saber) which is oddly similar to this funny comic here. I actually do think I've distinguished him by this point.

Thanks for the critique.

I've heard that Nova has generally higher flight-speed than others to compensate for his walking speed, so I was thinking something like that.

Well, if that's true, then Waka being somewhat faster with his version of Flight is fine.

I didn't think so, given your description, but I just wanted to make sure.

Perhaps I could split the move entirely. The boarding version could be mapped to ⇐⇙⇓ + 2X ATK and be slightly larger to distinguish it while the Pinball/Sword-bouncing version could be a separate Hyper that uses a smaller ship. So my preferred option would be to make them both LV 3 Hypers ala Strider (which is funny considering the connection you made to Ouroboros). I'm sure the Auger Tempest could handle itself alone.

If you don't want to sacrifice anything, then giving Waka two Level 3s is perfectly fine. Like how Hiryu has Legion, Auger Tempest seems versatile enough to work on its own.

Haha, I think Deadpool's forgetting that Strider Hiryu predates him as both a MvC fighter and a character. But hey, who's gonna let technicalities get in the way? [lol]

Thanks for the critique.

@Wolfenmaus: Your MK is getting better. I'd suggest adding a few air-only specials to give the player incentive to use Glide more often. Maybe a few Rekka-type added inputs thrown into a few of his specials (like Deadpool's Trigger Happy > Ninja Gift) that send him into the sky before or after they've hit.

There's nothing wrong with him being a trapper, since he's basically Marvel's crazier version of Batman.

@ Wolfenmaus: Ok, I saw what you added. Looks good. Flash Bang sounds like a versatile move due to its variable arcs. Medium being able to OTG is always a plus, while Heavy working as what looks like both an AA and an overhead sounds very useful. Moon Darts looks like it be useful in terms of keepaway, while Ankh Insanity helps to provide pressure (it also sounds like it'd make for a good assist). The only thing I'm puzzled about is the move being activated with S, when no other attacks in Moon Knight's arsenal use a DP motion, but that's nothing overly concerning. Whip Smack is an attack-to-command throw with range. If he can cancel into his M Flash Bang after the attack to OTG his opponent, then we'd be looking at a very handy tool to have. And like I said before, the Glide ability definitely has its uses when mastered.

Wrath of Khonshu sounds like it can OTG thanks to the Mooncopter. As for Rage of Spector, is it a full screen cinematic Level 3 like Phoenix Wright's?

Overall, he seems a bit like Nova; perhaps not quite as mobile in general, but adept at starting and restarting combos with much ease. He can zone and trap well thanks to his specials, so that's a good ability to have.

Rekkas (not to be confused with chain combos) are specials that tend to link to other specials (some of which are exclusive only to that chain). They're named after Fei Long's Rekka Ken from SSFII (QCF x3). Characters like Kyo Kusanagi, Karin Kanzuki, Gato, and Iron Fist are examples of characters who have a large number of Rekka moves, although several characters in modern games tend to have one or two Rekka moves that use repeated inputs.

@Wolfenmaus: I notice you're adding even more to MK even now. This looks good; the addition of profile information is a nice touch (I might have to swipe that idea).

I still suggest giving him a "Bold Move" jump (it has less height than a normal jump and moves a pace forward). It works with Special + ATK on the ground and currently only Dante has one. Not only does it allow more flexibility in aerial movement (and provides less risk than a normal jump), it also let's Dante cancel some of his ground combos. It would work well for an agile guy like MK.

I'd also suggest at least one command attack. Maybe an OTG activated with ⇘ + Heavy.

P.S: Come to think of it, a better word than "Rekka" for what I'm describing might be "follow-up." Such as Dante's Fireworks being activated from Jet Stream/Reverb Shock/Revolver + Heavy. Yeah, follow-up is better (not that I think about it, Rekka-characters are pretty complicated).

Looking at this latest build, I do have at least two suggestions:

One thing that escaped me earlier: I was mistaken when I told you that Special + Heavy is normally used for dropping attacks. They're actually supposed to be mapped to Heavy + ⇓. I don't think there's a single character in the game that has anything mapped to "Special + ATK (Air Only)". So, that button combination probably doesn't make any sense in the context of MvC. Sorry.

I'd suggest making at least one of his crouching normals have a sliding property.

Other than that, the build is fine. This looks pretty interesting to play as.

P.S:If anyone wants to know, I've added a bit more to the Waka build, including four whole new moves.

Well, there's not really much I have to say about his moveset, but good job. The dialogue is witty and humorous (I swear that I would probably bust out laughing if I heard Taskmaster wince like that when switching to Moon Knight). One suggestion for a intro quote: Deadpool should definitely make a Sailor Moon rib at Spector's expense. [lol] Nice touch with having Moon Knight comment on the time of day in certain stages. As for that ending, that is just so heartbreaking.

Edit: I saw the Deadpool quote. Love it. [lol]

@ Alucard: Ok, I've seen your revisions.

Does that Down + Medium air command attack have any special properties (groundbounce?) seeing as it uses the opponent as a stepping stone?

So, Diving Auger is now more or less a straight down version of Soaring Auger with the ability to chain into Soaring Auger if desired. Is it possible to still connect the Soaring Auger rekka if you started with Diving Auger?

Flight of the Bumblee sounds like Doom's Hidden Missiles or even how Vergil's Summoned Swords work in DMC3. The delay effect between the summoning of the projectiles and their fire seems like it'd be useful for trapping if used right.

While I like the idea of Lying in Wait, I'm not sure if they should persist indefinitely if not activated. Given the intended use of these particular daggers, I agree that their time on the field should be more pronounced than other projectiles/traps/etc., but I believe that other characters with trapping potential (Trish, Dr. Strange, M.O.D.O.K.) eventually have their traps dissipate. There should be some sort of limit. Not one that impairs the move's usefulness, but enough to prevent it from being overwhelming and overpowered.

Amplified Dagger sounds like your standard fare combo extender (either alone or with/as an Assist).

Waning Essence lends more to his poking/hit & run rushdown game, but like Viewtiful Joe's V-Dodge, Waka should probably be vulnerable on recovery as a tradeoff for his invincibility frames on startup and while still.

Good work with the quotes as well.

Does that Down + Medium air command attack have any special properties (groundbounce?) seeing as it uses the opponent as a stepping stone?
Not really. It works similarly to Chun-li's Headstomp but with a longer bound taken. Essentially it's meant to hopefully get away from the enemy.

Is it possible to still connect the Soaring Auger rekka if you started with Diving Auger?
Yes it is. The entire attack series is available. I should note that the ground Soaring Auger can't begin until he's touched the ground, and the timing on this must be as good as a wall-ricochet version (I'll add this into the build soon).

I suppose that makes sense. I still want it to be more persistent than your average on-screen element.

Like Viewtiful Joe's V-Dodge, Waka should probably be vulnerable on recovery as a tradeoff for his invincibility frames on startup and while still.
Sensible enough. I'll add that in.

Thanks for your continued help.

Great Gentleman Thief!
#149: Dec 3rd 2011 at 10:29:41 PM

I know I JUST finished, but I'm going to do one for my split personality (Yes, I ACTUALLY have one), Okiru Tomahanau, or The Great Gentleman Thief. I know it's incomplete, but I'm putting it here as an incentive to finish. Heck, I may add sound bytes produced by moi for him. Anyway.... this is Alucard's old Template.

  • Name: Okiru Tomahanau
  • Series: The E.V.I.L. War (An actual story with him in it!)
  • Occupation: Professional Thief
  • Abilities: Very athletic, with a wide knowledge of martial arts.
  • Weapons: If not using his hands, he has a crossbow, grappling hook, bow, and a handgun for emergencies.
  • Profile: Born from the psyche of another, everything he says is false. However, if he IS his own entity, then one could believe his story to be actual memories. He states that he was born and grew up in northern Antarctica until he was thirteen, and was then discovered and moved to Japan, where he learned the art of theft and honor from a foster family. When he was old enough, he set off into the world to try his hand at the ‘Family Business’. He has accumulated several millions in dollars, but donates most of it to charity. His motto is “Honor before Riches, and Comedy before Honor!”

  • (Charge) ⇓ + ⇑/ATK:Basically this is the Spinning Bird Kick button map.
  • ⇐⇙⇓ + Special:This is always mapped to Flight (assuming the character has such an ability).
  • ⇓⇓ + ATK:This is often used for a Stance Change, except in the case of Dante, who has it as a teleport.
  • ⇑⇗⇒ + ATK (air only):Magneto is currently the only character in the game to have a move mapped to this (Magnetic Blast).
  • Special + ATK:These tend to have a wide variety of effects, usually movement-related, such as Captain America’s Cartwheel, Viewtiful Joe’s V-Dodge, Dante’s Bold Move, Spider-Man’s Web Glide or Wolverine’s Drill Claw.
  • Hold ATK then release:This process tends to take a few in-game seconds.

Hypers: Prett much identical to what I have above but with two button presses, aside from the Shun Goku Satsu.

Aside of the bullet points, this is how it's supposed to look. Copy the above and you'll have it. Throw in some [[hottips:*:]] for your descriptions or use a pair of backslashes (\\) to create a line-break (this is just personal preference).
