I have wondered what would happen if the Shinigami went extinct or Ryuk was made the Last of His Kind(besides the king). There's what, a double digit in their population, and they're so lethargic they're known for forgetting to write down lifespans and die. Two shinigami die because of Misa(and I imagine Ryuk probably had her name written down for all that shinigami lifespan, even if quartered). Imagine if every shinigami dies of boredom/suicide with Ryuk being the only one left and the Shinigami King being king of basically nobody
Read the one shot.
So this kid finds a way to make himself and a bunch of people rich using the Death Note without killing a single person, but dies anyway due to a last minute rule he had no way of knowing about? That's not cool.
One Strip! One Strip!
The Shinigami King is a dick. Again, the shinigami are parasites who have no positive effect on the world. Hopefully the Shinigami King isn't The Grim Reaper, or we've got some Final Destination level dickery on Death Note's Death
I mean, Minoru isn't knowingly innocent and all, since he was willing to sell the most dangerous weapon in existence to....fricking Donald Trump, but still...that's a shitty way to go. He found a way to benefit from the note without harming a single person (and helped more people indirectly than Light ever did), but Not Trump gets to live and still benefits from things by saying he has the note, while this kid dies with no clue about what happened. That's just unfair, especially the Donald Trump benefits in any way part.
The Death Note universe is the worst universe.
One Strip! One Strip!Sure he was willing to sell it, but he made it a public affair so that people would know who has the deathnote which basically restricts their ability to use it (especially as Ryuk would have stayed with Trump while he had it, and all the former investigators can see Ryuk)
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boys
Oh right. No matter who won, they'd have ended up getting caught...though the President of the United States having it would have made it more difficult to move but being such a public face would have (in theory mind you, because this is Donald Trump we're talking about) meant it'd be impossible to use it without everyone knowing you did it.
The kid's plan was pretty good, and likely would have ended with far less death than Light's plan even with a head of state owning it (again in theory, as I fully expect Donald Trump would have used it to do a lot of harm because the man only understands the concept of enemies of Trump and not enemies of Trump and has zero restraint), but instead, everyone essentially wins but him.
It galls me quite a bit to be honest......do I still need to use spoilers?
One Strip! One Strip!Since Light was attacking society from the bottom up (which is the stupidest way to use a precision assassination device), it's unclear if corporate types would have been on his radar at all. Trump only really became a worldwide problem after Light died, so we can't be sure how Kira would have reacted to him, but there were plenty of terrible high-profile leaders he could have gone for but didn't. Such as, for example, most of North Korea's leadership.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Okay I think we can stop using spoilers.
While I like Minoru, I still found the ending fairly hilarious. It’s a good lesson there, no matter how good you may be the Death Note will fuck you one way or another.
So stay away from the actual object that brings unlimited death.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I guess.
You know what I'd like to see.
Light' first use of the Note came from killing some dude who took a bunch of little kids hostage.
This took place in 2003-2006 (and I'm assuming that was date of the events of the manga as well. So those kinds would be in their late teens to early twenties now. It'd be interesting to see one of the few to benefit from Light's first use of the note (due to him saving their lives, even if only by accident) gain that same power and how they would use it, and especially how they would feel about Light, knowing he cause a shitload of harm, but also being aware of the fact that they are alive today because of him.
It'd be an interesting character to follow. Hell, I think Minoru may or may not be old enough to potentially be one of those kids depending on their exact ages.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.![]()
Sorry, where did you hear a defense of the Shinigami from me? I didn’t say anything about them being good or bad, I expressed my distaste for “they should all die”, i.e genocide.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Which I imagine is also why they're able to forget easily. When you've lived for thousands of years bored out of your skull, losing track of a few decades isn't surprising.
I can't remember, do Shinigami have any way of checking how many years they have left?
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Assuming they don't have a way to know outright, they could always just make a note of how many years they gain from each person they've killed and just do the math.

Do you think Minoru's mom will inherit the money in his bank account?
