Fortunately, Matsuda gets the single greatest moment in the entire story.
Oh just you wait; what happens after the memory arc is done is just fucking delicious.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyWell in the manga I'm pretty sure he didn't throw a fit after Misa came to his house. It be counterproductive. Mostly he just thought about how to deal with her. Light is actually eerily calm most of the time. I figured people who don't like him would use that as good proof of just how psychopathic he is. He smiles a lot and nods while thinking horrible things about most of the people he's with.
Isn't "superficial charm" a classic trademark?

He pitches a hissy fit in the anime, railing about how stupid she is.
I make no claims to being a psychological expert, but offhand I'd say Light's more narcissistic than psychopathic. As for superficial charm, I don't see that he has any. Seriously, every line he says just comes off as smug and condescending.
Must be an anime thing. Judging from the CM thread and our current discussion there are definitely important differences in the depictions of Light. In the manga he can be very nice.
Actually now I think on it, I recall why some people I talked to hated the anime. This was fucking years ago man but it had to do with Light's death. They felt he went out like a bitch compared to the manga.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
He pretty much "goes out like a bitch" in both. In fact the manga, if anything, drives it home even harder. In the anime he at least gets an attempt at Alas, Poor Villain.

he's relatively polite and well-mannered when speaking to the investigation team and most people in general. when coupled with his bishounen good looks i think most people get wooed fairly easily.
light only really shows his petulance and narcissism when people are about to die in front of him or when he's in private.

Right. He's really good at wearing on a pleasant face but that, in and of itself, doesn't mean he's a psychopath. Some people are just fantastic actors.
I agree with the narcissist assertion. Light is obsessed with the idea of his own inherent superiority. This is, in my opinion, what both Light/Misa and Light/L shippers miss: Light Yagami's one true love is Light Yagami.

Hell, you know the scene where he tries to throw of L and his father by reading porn mags in front of their cameras? You know what fails about that scene? Light is not very convincing about it. He just sits their reading looking bored out of his mind. Because at the end of the day, Light would have to stare into a mirror if he wanted to get turned on.
He's a man on a mission, he's got no time for boobs.
I doubt L is sexually active either. Well, nothing I've sen so far even remotely hints at it. If anything, his mild, somewhat bemused (at least that's how I read it) recognition that he has friends now makes me think he doesn't get much personal social interaction of any kind.
Kinda sad when you get down to it - the first person he declared his friend was Light and the second person was Misa. At least Misa, or Amnesiac Misa anyway, is a somewhat more genuine friend than Light. Still a sorry state of affairs.
Wonder if he qualifies for Woobie.
Actually, Word of God is that L was lying through his teeth when he called them friends.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyHe might have been lying but it wouldn't surprise me if he empathized or was fond of Light in some way because it's probably very rare for him to find anyone who's anywhere near an intellectual equal to himself. L's probably been alone most of his life without much in the way of emotional intimacy besides Watari.

L lies through his teeth a lot.
I remember reading somewhere that whenever he gives a percentage of his suspicions of light, his actual percentage is that value multiplied by 10. So when he says, "I'm 7% sure of his guilt," he's 70% sure. Another source said that whenever he gives a percentage, he's lying and his actual percentage is always 100%.
Either way, his percents are bullshit. He's just sugarcoating things for Soichiro.

You all do know Nikkolas hasn't reached that part yet, right? That said I've seen it suggested that dying without knowing light is Kira is Soichiro's reward for not using the Death Note, doubly so due to the "nothing after death."
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyYou know L hasn't really done much in the way of moral ambiguity yet. I've heard some paint him as a hard Lawful Neutral type but the most extreme measure I've seen from him yet was considering letting the Yotsuba Group kill some people in order to prove their guilt. And even then he rejected the idea in the end.
Well things were off to kind of a boring start with this volume than Misa went to Yotsuba as part of L's plan and then Rem popped up and revealed everything to her. I did not expect that. So now things are pretty cool again. Rem's also come around to Light's way of thinking. I suppose being attached to some stupid corporate crook who just used the DN to kill his business competition and amass wealth would make one yearn for ideals. Honestly I agree with Rem on this. A person who kills for an ideal is more respectable to me than a person who kills for something as lowly as money and status. I suppose that's some more of the romantic in me. Of course, even if she's come around to Light's way of thinking, she still recognizes he's a threat to Misa so she's no fool.
So Misa's Intelligence Ranking is 3/10. That's just mean. In spite of her impulsiveness she did an adequate job concealing her involvement with the kira Videos. And just now she exposed Higuchi as the new Kira. L seems displeased but fuck him. Misa is no L or Light but 3/10? Really? I just don't know what kind of benchmark is supposed to be employed here. If we go with like a grading system then 3/10 would be an F or Below Average. That does not fit at all with her actions. At lowest I'd give her 5/10. She just has horrible emotional problems.
You know the Yotsuba Group isn't such a bad...er, group. I've often wondered how all this started because, if the identity of Kira is a secret, I wanted to know how it all began. It looks like they were all more or less forced into it. I mean they show up in a room for just some random business meeting, see a bunch of people killed, and then are told one of the people in this very room can do that. They have no way of knowing who it is so if they try to back out he'll definitely kill them.
Kinda sucks I'm gonna guess they will all die. If Higuchi Kira doesn't kill them, the returned Light Kira might. My guess right now anyway.
And that's the end of the volume. Pretty intense there the last couple chapters. Naturally Higuchi perfectly fell into L's scheme. I think that's the firstt ime all manga so far they had full page action panels and the like though. The most "action" up to now was Light punching L.
But yeah, Volume 6 picked up once Rem showed herself. Misa done good. Still, Light and Misa still are memories-less and I haven't the faintest clue how this is advantageous for Light. Well beyond the most basic part of it where he becomes a whole different person and doesn't have any evidence implicating him. But as for the part where he gets the Death Note back and defeats L, who the fuck knows how that will happen. Something contrived probably but oh well. What was it Light once said? "This Shinigami may not be on my side, but it looks like another god is."
...
I miss Ryuk. :(

You'll get your cult soon enough.
There is nothing grandiose about Light. "I'm going to kill people until everyone worships me" isn't grandiose, it's pathetic. It's the action of a spoiled child, demanding that people give him the things he thinks he's entitled to. Couple it with the freak outs, the screaming fits, the tantrums, and all the other immature behaviour, and it's pretty clear that Light has all the emotional maturity of a five year old.
