Eye Catch remove... I would be interested in splitting with the different types of them only one or two would be anime specific too much work though.
Face Fault is not an anime trope that's for sure it's popular in all mediums, the western vs Japanese thing dont know I don't see it that often in non-Animesqe works.
Agree on the rename of that one.
Finger-Suck Healing is a bit different than Kiss it to make it better. The most common thing is someone gets a cut on their finger they will suck it right after (Love Hina's Beach Episode chapter Naru did this after she cut her finger.) Now when someone else does it Red Flag romantic moment alert it's not Subtext it's far far beyond that and into blatant flirting, get a room type thing. The former I have seen in a western work the latter I have not.
And umm yeah fist whatever... Re-YKTTW. I would of thought the trope was about when a fighter gets excited about a fight they slam their fist into an open palm based on the name. I have seen the pose on the page a lot in manga and anime.... Can't think of any off hand though. Oh Kaede in Negima does this after beating a black dragon when she is saying she must get stronger (only reason I remember is the first time she opened her eyes all the way in 200 chapter.) and a few assorted Hentai.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I'd like at least one more person weighing in on these, particularly Finger-Suck Healing. I think I've seen it, or something like it, in western works. I'm thinking of that scene in Indiana Jones where Jones is all bandaged up and the girl starts kissing him and this rapidly segues into a cut.
Fight smart, not fair.
That doesnt seem like this. Examples: Solo
◊ then the pair one
◊
Well, the dialogue involved set it up, she asked him where it hurt and then she kissed the spot he pointed to. They continued this until he pointed at his lips, at which point it became a make out scene.
Fight smart, not fair.![]()
That seems like it would be a sister trope to this not this trope.
Making moves. If you don't mind, if it's just you and me Raso, I'll make moves we can agree to, and table things we can't. Once we work out most of the easier ones, we can tackle the harder ones, hopefully with others helping?
New batch:
- Gecko Ending (adaption trope, specifically when the adaption outruns the source work, yes?)
- Giving Up the Ghost (might be Japanese visual trope, not sure on origin. While ghosts floating upwards is a really old animation trope, I'm not sure if the mouth thing is from anywhere but Japan. However, is that really an important aspect of it?)
- Headbutt Thermometer (this sounds like an old school way of taking temperature, any romantic aspects might be old, I'd like a romance fan to weigh in)
- Hexagonal Speech Balloon (is this even an independent trope? Does the hexagon make any difference from a regular Speech Balloon?)
- Image Song ??????
- Gecko Ending: we need an adaption index (it would be 99% anime tropes but still)
- Giving Up the Ghost: Its a Japanese visual trope I have never seen it in any other works but Japanese works in this style.
- Headbutt Thermometer: I think this is more of a Japanese thing, in the west its the back of the palm.
- Hexagonal Speech Balloon: very Odd limited trope here its a Manga visual style usually a pan shot with Talking Heads inside the balloon. I personally think it should be reworked and renamed into all Faces In Speech Balloon type things.
- Image Song: Its pretty much a song sung by the voice actor fitting the character it is Japanese specific although there have been a few western ones like the Pokemon to be a master CD (an experiment to see if it would sell... I bought it back in the day :p) Its not exclusive to anime and it rarely actually appears in the animes like an Insert Song. (alot of misuse there which is just an Insert Song though.)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I think we've got Adaption Tropes don't we? It should be there with stuff like Film of the Book and what not. Eh, whatever.
Gecko Ending: agreed on removing and adding to Adaption Tropes (or equivalent index).
Giving Up the Ghost: looking at firmly, I have to agree, I've never seen quite the same thing in western work, in any of the cartoons. I've seen the ghost like issues as comedy, but it mostly had to do with heart attack like reactions. I'm mostly concerned with the name. It looks like it might pick up misuse as a broader ghost related trope.
Headbutt Thermometer: hmmmm, agree mostly. I don't know if it's Japanese or simply eastern though. Haven't really consumed too many eastern works. Suggest moving to Japanese tropes, until such time as clarification or a more appropriate index arises.
Hexagonal Speech Balloon: rereading the entire trope description, I have to agree that I've never seen that visual thing shown. Suggest moving to both Japanese Visual Arts Tropes and TRS for rename (who the hell thought "speech balloon" was a good idea?). Shot And Reaction Face maybe?
Image Song: never understood this, but okay. Japanese specific, since I assume it applies to radio plays and stuff as well?
Fight smart, not fair.Giving Up the Ghost comes from early Loony Toons. They still do it.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickGiving Up the Ghost is kind of complicated... I've seen it many times in Western Animation, but there it usually implies that the character is actually dead or close to dying (the soul might return shortly). The animé version described in the article seems to be about characters' souls leaving them for really frivolous reasons (like seeing a cute boy/girl, etc.).
In my opinion, this would need a Trope Repair Shop. Either create a supertrope of the "dying character's soul leaves the body", with the current Giving Up the Ghost as a subtrope, or make a catch-all trope for them (rather than the current one that's written as "animé only"), and mention that "in animé, this can sometimes happen for incredibly frivolous reasons" or the like.

Confirming moves:
Gecko Ending: remove, move to Media Adaptation Tropes.
Giving Up the Ghost: needs TRS: name seems more inclusive than it is.
Headbutt Thermometer: move to Japanese Tropes
Hexagonal Speech Balloons: needs TRS for rename. I suggest letting the TRS decide whether or not it's a Japanese Visual Arts Trope.
Image Song: move to Japanese Tropes.
Last chance for objections.
Fight smart, not fair. There might be a supertrope to Giving Up the Ghost but I the trope is perfectly fine the way it is, Save it for later I guess.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Moves made.
New batch.
- Instant Cosplay Surprise
- Kamehame Hadoken
- Kiai
- Last Episode Theme Reprise
- Lightning Glare (I've only seen this in Anime/Manga, but I want to be sure that's where it actually originated)
I don't know about the others, but Kiai is a general martial arts trope and not anime-specific at all.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.Lets see
- Instant Cosplay Surprise: Its a Japanese thing. While Instant Costume Change is a general thing this has to be actual Cosplay very rare western examples but primarily Japanese the western examples on the page seem to be all misuse.
- Kamehame Hadoken: its a style started in with Street Fighter and Dragon Ball constantly copied.
- Kiai: agree with above
- Last Episode Theme Reprise: Ok what is this exactly? Examples are a freaken mess. (In animes they like to skip the OP of the final episode then play the full version of the OP song in the ending credits which are overlaid in the final scenes, occasionally first episode does this too.)
- Lightning Glare: its Japanese visual art trope started in manga it has filtered over into Animesque works.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Cosplay isn't as Japanese as anime fans think it is. It happens in purely Western media with things like Star Wars, and The Lord Of The Rings. Neither cosplay nor cosplayers in media are exclusive to Japan and what we know of the history seems to indicate it started with Star Trek.
Once again, the assumption that it's a Japanese phenomenon has stunted the trope.

I disagree the trope is used differently in the west the western examples on the page (but the webcomics I think.) seem to be mostly misuse. It can be used but very rarely and differently.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Since no one else is commenting, I just moved everything that wasn't Kiai down to the bottom.
Next batch:
- Love Chart
- Luminescent Blush Animation trope maybe? Not sure on origin.
- Mad Lib Anime Title (might be a general title trope for Japanese works)
- Meido (is this a general stereotype from Japan or something specific to drawn works?) Still, want to know if this particular stereotype was popular in Japan before Anime or not.
- Moe Couplet (?????)
Love Chart: Not an anime trope—I've seen it in comic books not particularly inspired by the Japanese By the way wouldn't Relationship Chart be more accurate?
Avatar art by Lorna-Ka.

Moves made.
Next batch:
- Eye Catch (general television trope?) This looks like something a lot of shows doing after a commercial break, unfortunately Seen It A Million Times.
- Face Fault prefer remove. It explicitly mentions being a slight variation of an American animation trope (I wonder if anyone would be interested in building that?)
- Finger Twiddling current plan is TRS to move the specific love gesture off and leave the current name as a supertope, yes? I say the supertrope Finger Twiddling is most definitely too broad to be Japanese specific. No idea on the love one.
- Finger-Suck Healing (dunno if this really is really that specific. sucking on sore fingers has been around for quite a while) "kiss it and make it better" is ancient, probably remove.
- Fist of Enthusiasm (not sure where this goes, probably needs to be re-YKTTW'd for stubbiness) Repeat original idea, needs a re-YKTTW, and YKTTW can figure out the proper set of indexes for it.
