Maroon 5 actually played at my campus with OneRepublic opening for them. I opted not to go because it's pop rock and I don't listen to pop rock.
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat.Pop Rock has always been a genre. The Beatles basically codified it in their early albums.
tumblrAnd Genesis after Peter Gabriel left.
And a million fanfics were written...You're talking about the candy?
-happy to see that Schmogerty has been defined-
Anyways, Pop Rock by today's standard seems rather lame compared imho.
That stuff is still golden. Also Elton John, Billy Joel, hell I'd explore my Classic Rock library and hardly come up with something that had not been pop (unless it's prog rock).

I now go by Graf von Tirol. What would be likely to show up on his best of/worst of lists for the end of this year, assuming he does one.
I imagine the former would have "Fuck You!" and maybe one of Adele's singles. I'm not really sure what else has been a hit in America this year.
Fuck You! was from last year, and failed to qualify Todd's best of 2010 because it didn't chart in 100 best selling singles.

Oh, I see. He's mentioned it a couple of times this year, and I guess that confused me.
Todd plays The Black Eyed Peas Experience.
And a million fanfics were written...Wow Todd isn't kidding when he says he's got bad coordination. Oh and the game's stupid too.
Anyway, LMFAO's "I'm Sexy and I Know It" is starting to play more on the radio. It's also worse than "Party Rock Anthem", which was a bad song but was at least meant to be played in a club. I'm waiting for Todd to shoot them down. Anyone else?
I love Todd's reviews though oddly enough, he's introduced me to pop songs that I enjoy when I normally would've stuck to finding awesome stuff late like Fuck You, Use Somebody, stuff by B.o.B. and the songs he considers bad I actually like and think they just suffer from bad lyrics (Tonight Tonight, The Lazy Song, Hey Soul Sister, Party Rock Anthem).
The Blog The ArtI love it when he gives me a bad song that I like.
I just happen to put beat over lyrics.
And I have no taste.
WHOOH.
Read my stories!Same here, which is why I like Grenade and Paparazzi.
Hey Soul Sister and ET are the only songs he's reviewed (on the TGWTG site at least) that I actually kind of like. This is because I am a smugly elitist metalhead.

I'm the worst because I actually liked "In my Head" and "Riding Solo".
I refuse to feel guilty for liking acoustic guitar music just because some guy who plays the instrument with all the goddamned notes laid out for selection says it sucks.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!~Jason De Rulo!~
What do you mean?
Nope. What's really odd is I share Todd's philosophy on music, I hate soul sister and lazy song because of how...breezy...they are.
Read my stories!I like some of the songs he reviews, and most of the stuff really falls down at bad lyrics, which was something I cared about when I was 17 and really into Classic Rock. But yeah, a lot of modern pop music is bad, but thankfully Todd also does the old school bad hits to remind everyone, that there were never any good old days, they are today, they are tomorrow, what a stupid thing we say, cursing tomorrow with sorrow
the statement above is falseI like listening to and singing "Grenade", but I had the same reaction to the lyrics as Todd did at first. (Bruno's actually playing 'You Don't Love Me Anymore' straight, and it's hard to convince me otherwise.)
As for "In My Head", I have a tendency to sing "Just Dance" over it. It matches up a bit too well.
I will admit that while I'm not a fan of Maroon 5, I have kind of a soft spot for their music. They're the first thing I think of when I try to define "pop rock" (because fuck that's becoming a genre now) and their music was always easier for me to tolerate than other songs on the main pop stations.
That said, good review. I personally don't have any hate for this song, but I do agree that it's a definite "sell out" move on Maroon 5's part. Also, yeah, the recent hard-on that pop music has for Mick Jagger really needs to stop.
