In a case such as that, I'm inclined to disregard the one that does not align with the lore established by the films.
In addition to whether he's been freed or not, there's also the question of why he's all sea-creature-y now like Jones was. It's definitely explicit that as long as he did his job nothing like that would happen to him, the Dutchman or his crew.
My guess is, knowing Will, it's all tied into why his son is apparently on the lam in the first place. Like, maybe someone attacked the kid and Elizabeth, and Will went AWOL to save them like the consummate hero he is, but the end result was Will was punished in some way, his son was left not knowing his father, and... um... do we know what happened to Elizabeth? Cause I swear, if she died offscreen...

Unless otherwise stated I'm going to assume she's busy doing Pirate King stuff.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheySo it just came upon me that Salazar and the crew of the Silent Mary are undead navy men, while Will and the crew of the Flying Dutchman are undead pirates.
Could it be that we're going to see an Inter-Service Rivalry between two walking personifications of Death? It makes Salazar's otherwise corny threat that "death will come straight to him!" a lot more meaningful if he were actually referring to himself in the third person, while also explaining why the undead Spaniards possess supernatural abilities such as walking through walls that Will and the Flying Dutchmen don't even have. The Silent Mary's own name also has explicit religious connotations.
The Flying Dutchman's job is to collect the souls of those who die at sea. The Silent Mary's job is to put to death those who have eluded the former for too long.

Yeah, I can't quite place exactly why but I feel like we already knew this.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's called Dead Men Tell No Tales in US and Japan only. Don't know why since Salazar's Revenge is so lame.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesOST doesn't. But it still has a plot relavent song within it. I hope that stays a Once an Episode part of the franchise.
The sheer amount of irony on display is absolutely amazing but, yeah. Dead Men is currently being held for ransom by, well. Pirates
.
Well shit.
In other news, Paul Mc Cartney is gonna make an appearance in the film. First Keith Richards, now him, when are we getting another member of an important 60's British Invasion act?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
That's a shame.
So funny thing: I'm watching At Worlds End right now. It came out in 2007.
That's especially notable since if you recall, 10 years was Will's tenure as Captain of the Flying Dutchman was supposed to be in-universe and I understand both he and Elizabeth are set to come back for this one.
Gonna be interesting to see how that turned out.
One Strip! One Strip!I never truly understood why people despised In Stranger Tides. It has far worse cinematography than Dead Man's Chest and At World's end but it's a return to Curse's "fun swashbuckling film" vibe. It's pure popcorn entertainment and it's pretty fun.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

That idea was never founded in anything anyway. Lore says the Dutchman needs a captain, Will is now that captain, he will remain so until someone stabs his heart and becomes captain in his stead, but he can walk on land once every ten years. That stinger was his once every ten years. The idea that he was somehow absolved of captaining the Dutchman was always absurd and had no basis in anything we were shown in the film anyway.
Functionally, Will's dead. More than that, he's the Grim Reaper now. You don't get to retire from that and flip your eternal responsibility the bird when it becomes convenient. Trying to do so is what made Davy Jones what he is.
