I think of humans as "unpredictable, except when we aren't, in which case no, except maybe, although possible yes." :P

Anyways, sociology is cool. :3 And archaeology! :D And psychology. :3 And anthropology. :3 And biology. And physics. :3 And Astronomy. :3 And chemistry! :O And...

Sure it does. Water is water, no? Does water change, at all? Sure, it changes forms, but it doesn't change its baser self. It's consistent. Apply something to it and it will always turn out the same way, if done properly (not accounting for human error, of course).

Humans don't work like that.

What exactly is the difference between soft and hard sciences anyway?

"Hard" sciences are the "concrete" ones. The more "abstract" you get with the concept and/or execution, the more "soft" the science is. Of course the differences and lines between often blur somewhat.

And now I am thinking of B.F. Skinner. Cool dude. Bit batty with how extreme he went with his behavioralism beliefs, but cool dude. You have to be cool to teach pigeons to play ping-pong.

When I was little, I wanted to be an archeologist so bad. My favorite toy was my dinosaur plushie. Until my dad got me a Chip doll. XD

To this day, I get excited over dinosaur-related topics and shows.

Not necessarily, whale. Would you qualify a person from another culture as "mentally ill" for thinking, say, that women are less "human" then men—or vice versa, for that matter?

Or how about this: are religious people mentally ill? Because, you know, that's not consistent across humanity at all...

Humans are consistent only in their inconsistency. A group of humans can be consistent. Nations, provinces, employees of a certain company, people in a small town, etc. But as a whole? Yeah, right.

[up][up] I loved dinosaurs when I was a kid. I told everyone I would grow up to be a paleontologist.

And then I found the Air Force. [lol]

Zersk, word mix up aside, I wanted to be both! I was a dorky little kid. Then I got older and got lazy. <.< Man, I miss having dreams.

  1. Get two samples of water
  2. Freeze one
  3. Hit each sample with hammer
  4. Different reaction!

Or:

  1. Get two samples of water
  2. Strain the heavy water out of one and use that
  3. Use in nuclear reactors
  4. Different reaction!

Perhaps. I'm looking at majoring in history and teaching and minoring in sociology, though. I'll figure it out when I get there. [lol]

You're doing different things to the samples, though.

I'm taking issue with your 'consistency' comment. But that's not what you mean, anyway; what you mean is that each person is different, so one person won't behave exactly the same as another in any experimental scenario. And, of course, you're right, but luckily, scientists and mathematicians have developed a large statistical toolset perfect for dealing with that sort of variance.

then I found out about the mortality rates D:

For... astronautics? What?
