I saw lots of hubbub about censorship compared to the original, but it is a common tactic in anime to censor the broadcast version and uncensor the DVD release, so they might be going for that.
Apparently they just removed nipples. This is something that shouldn't really be a big deal, but apparently back in the old days Western fans held up the casual nudity in Ranma as evidence that anime wasn't for kids. So in making the show acceptable for broadcast they accidentally committed blasphemy (as viewed by a handful of American gen-xers)
And, no, it's not getting uncensored. These leaks are version that's ending up on Netflix, remember
Happosai is supposed to be a horrible person. What ages badly are instances where bad things are presented as good or "boys will be boys" kinda things. Ranma 1/2 surely has some of those, but I think it's saved by the fact that every character is supposed to be clearly flawed at best.
I've seen enough reports of people having difficulty getting past Happosai on rewatch/reread that I expect it'll still be a problem
The old pervert who harassed underage girls was a common trope in anime and while it was never really praised, it wasn't treated as creepy or as dark as most people would consider it now or some people even back then felt about it.
Happosai groping underage girls and stealing their underwear was usually played as bad but mostly comedic without a lot of effort put into the gag and portrayed as a relatively harmless offense. It was similar to Genma being a sleezy moocher who sold Ranma for various offers or Nabiki scamming people out of their money.
However, cultural norms, tastes, opportunities to speak out, and life experiences have changed for a lot of different groups and people. It's easier to accept and enjoy Genma's over the top nature being played for comedy for a variety of reasons (it's less realistic/personal, it's usually more over the top, etc). It's a little hard to use Happosai's gag the same way and expect the same reactions as several decades prior.

I don't think you understand what I meant by an uncensored version. I don't mean what's going to go up on Netflix, but a possible uncensored DVD release after the show's been on Netflix for a while.
I don't really care about censorship, but Barbie Doll Anatomy is inherently kind of silly. There's other, smarter ways to censor nudity.
Happosai's awful, but no changes were made to Ryuunosuke's absolute terror of a father in the recent Urusei Yatsura remake, so I doubt any changes will be made to Happosai either.

Oissu! The new series having more focus on Action Sakuga definitely gives me hope that they'll adapt the Musk Dynasty and Phoenix King Saffron Arcs really well when they get to them, maybe even bring some of the action animators from the old series like Norio Matsumoto for old times sake for those.
Watch SymphogearHard to know, this is like brotherhood a kind of faitfull to the manga, warts and all.
Anime having dirty old men is kind of a thing, they never phase up but it have become less present probably because mangaka back them were japanise boomer(no that news ones are often that much better, see the isekai burst and all the issue they have) but happosai also have the issue that he is more or less important as he show up a lot(contrast roshi who by DBZ he become a bumbling old men who is just kind of there) and he is kinda overpower in general, being able to push ramma a lot of times.
So it not a simple way to deal with it other than just brace yourself for it
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
Musk and Phoenix Mountain arcs
Also, a bit late but more casting news
- Tomokazu Sugita as the
The Blue BlunderTatewaki Kuno - Ayane Sakura as Kodachi Kuno aka "The Black Rose"
- Toshiyuki Morikawa as Doc Tofu
- Mamoru Miyano as Mikado Sanzenin
- Aoi Yūki as Azusa Shiratori
Interestingly none of them are returning cast members, though in Kuno's case the re-casting is sadly necessity rather than choice and a lot of the others aren't as active as they used to be, with one notable exception. Kazuhiko Inoue, Mikado's original actor is still quite active, even appearing in the Uresei Yatsura reboot
Canon Ranma isn't non-binary, not even on a technicality. He is always outspoken about his masculinity, and never acts feminine except as a ploy against others.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Girls hitting/slapping/punching old perverted men for their perverted actions was a standard thing for manga/anime as far back as the 1960s. What's changed over the course of time is that back in the day that was the *only* punishment those coots would get in a comedy and otherwise they were tolerated and put up with (and could even be unambiguously allies of the hero.)

Happosai is supposed to be terrible, but he's also treated as comic relief, which is, I think, something that wouldn't go over well today. The Dirty Old Man trope has, to Japan's credit, dropped off as time has gone on, at least I think it has. But Happosai is pretty much the embodiment of everything wrong with that trope.
