Ukyô will have to be recast as well, since Tsuru Hiromi died in 2017 from an (apparently undiagnosed) aortic dissection.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Would legit be shocked if they recast Ranma and the sisters... especially Kasumi seeing how Kikuko Inoue is still one of the biggest names in anime, Ryoga's VA as well very active.
Everyone else I can see getting recast, potentially for the second or third time in the case of several characters.
Obviously, Ranma ain't going anywhere.
We just need to see if he can take a break from being a cowardly Pirate.
One Strip! One Strip! Was re-reading the manga on the Viz app. I know that Akane's Lethal Chef skills largely popularized the trope, if not invented it, but going back now, Takahashi-sempai put a bit more thought into it then a lot of her contemporaries.
From what I've read, the trope usually begins and ends with, "Hah, woman can't cook, funny!" but Ranma 1/2 actually goes into why Akane's so bad at it — her impatience, her tendency to not pay attention to what she's doing, her jumping to the weirdest of conclusions and — most of all — her stubborn refusal to admit when she's bad at something, because in many ways she's just as pig-headed as Ranma is.
It's not just a one-off gag; it's letting us know something about Akane's character.
I’m personal really hyped for the reboot just cause I think it could bring a whole new wave of fan content. As someone who got into the fandom for this a few years back, it be kinda cool to see a revival of some sort.
I do wonder how many seasons we’ll get, Urusei Yatsura got two that seemed to have picked and chose from the manga. I would assume a similar attempt would be done here, while Ranma has a decent bit of filler arcs it also has a LOT of good arcs I’d be sad to see go. I deffently feel like if you want to adapt EVERYTHING of consequence you need at least three 24 ep seasons, which feels like a hard sell. At the same time Ranma is very popular outside Japan in a way Urusei Yatsura isn’t so it’s not that unlikely.
A lot of returning voice cast:
The original cast from the two 80s and 90s anime returns for the 2024 Ranma 1/2 TV anime in mostly the same roles, including:
- Ranma Saotome voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi
- Ranma voiced by Megumi Hayashibara
- Akane Tendo voiced by Noriko Hidaka
- Nabiki Tendo voiced by Minami Takayama
- Kasumi Tendo voiced by Kikuko Inoue
- Soun Tendo voiced by Akio Otsuka
- Genma Saotome voiced by Cho
- Ryoga Hibiki voiced by Koichi Yamadera
- Shampoo voiced by Rei Sakuma
- Narrator voiced by Kenichi Ogata
The differences between the original anime voice cast and the 2024 anime see Akio Otsuka replacing Ryusuke Obayashi as Soun Tendo and Cho replacing Kenichi Ogata as Genma Saotome. However, Ogata is still part of the voice cast as the Narrator of the series.
Hmm, is that surprising? I can't remember if the original anime shuffled with the order of manga arrivals. Since that was late-20's in the first anime and came after Kodachi, Shampoo, Mousse… which seems a bit odd IIRC given the cast involved.
Browser crashed mid-post.

Well, duh, of course we'll get Kuno.
I just meant that I can't remember what the manga order was; did the skating happen before or after the Amazons? Since I can't imagine if the original anime was in order that this would be going through everything before it without a ton of editing… or reordering.

Did the anime ever adaptate the "Fishing Pole of Love" Arc? If so, which episodes feature it?
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.
