88K isn't that much for a combined income for a family of 3+, but it's very good for a single person. If they can't live on that, then they just aren't living within their means...
I am now known as Flyboy.@ dark: From my understanding, as long as the event is happening in public and a person is videoing it from a public location, there is no basis to arrest someone for recording the event. If the event is non-public or the recorder is on private property, a person recording the event can be arrested.
These "Occupy" events definitely fall under the first part of that.

Everyone should ensure these events are recorded.

Who watches the watchmen?Well, I saw some protesters interviewed and was pleased they at least seem semi-competent. I never attend NYC rallies anymore because it's a farce. You walk down a narrow cordoned line and make a bunch of noise while bystanders and tourists look at you with bemusement. And then there's the inevitable dork who can't lead a chant to save their lives.
Though I suppose it's better than the May Day parade where some black guy started chanting Long Live Qadaffi.

I'm a skeptical squirrelI am not so sure the people were intending to block the bridge.

Ayup. Once you have told a lie the truth is your enemy forevermore.
How about we avoid qualifiers and simply call it a historical milestone?
A case of true love has the same redeeming power as a case of genuine curiosity: they are the same.@tropetown: Answer: Going by the coverage we have seen, mostly non-news-worthy nonsense.
Of course, that is not true, but it is the impression we here are getting from major news media.
The summary is this: a Canadian magazine advertized a protest in NYC's Wall Street that would have a few thousand people who were dissatisfied with how financial businesses have been handling themselves and their money over the past few years * . In mid September a few hundred showed up (forgetting the exact date/numbers) and their numbers have been growing since then. Mostly because of the lack of popular media coverage and reports of police using violent arrest tactics on completely peaceful protestors. (this has been changing because of time and popular presure, but is still mostly true)
The protest has a lack of consolidated leadership/goals going against it, but that seems to be changing over time. Yesterday, the planers managed to get a couple thousand people to march towards Brooklyn without telling them the route or destination in advance. (supposedly) Not part of the plan was blocking the Brooklyn bridge itself, the police waiting for the protestors to all be on the bridge, and then the police coming in with paddy wagons and formations from both sides of the bridge to eventualy arrest 700 people. Most of whom were given citations and then released. (most info taken from this article

Small tin-foil hat on: I am willing to believe that a portion of that was planned to encourage media attention.
If you want to know the whole story, I recommend going back to page 1 of the thread and read the linked-to articles.

What I know: I live in en expensive city. New York is an expensive place to live, so unless they commute long distance they live in the city. 88k before tax really isn't that strong. Sure, it's good, but it only seems large because America has fucked up wages.
