I'm rather glad they didn't do anything to him once they found out.

Also, speaking out against stupidity by members of your own occupation in a job that highly values brotherhood = balls of steel. cool

That should probably be moved to useful notes section instead of main.

Barkey; that is a good question. In Oakland as part of the general strike some stores have closed down.

Thread Hop:The more I hear about this movement the more they should make a Shonen anime out of it.Man,imagine how great would that be espically if it could combine the spirit of Gurren Laggen and the awesomeness of One Piece.

No thanks we don't need to trivilize the movement as entertainment. This is also a bit off topic.

Van: Calm down man. Rageing against the Machine only drives you nuts. This is also not only instance of this.

[up]I am being serious a little because they already have coloring books based on the movement so why not get an anime show based on the movement.smile

Welcome back, joyflower.

I wonder whether that mayor really doesn't like OWS, or has other parts of the establishment cracking down on him...

Not sure. STL is a pretty left leaning city.

Well, something to keep in mind. Many of the mayors and governors and such that aren't helping OWS may not actually be against it in principle, but rather are simply not being afforded a choice by the other, more deeply-ingrained members of the establishment...

So I hadn't heard anything about it, but apparently there's an "Occupy Ventura" movement here in my city. No real trouble has occurred, I know damn near half our police department and things have been pretty quiet around here.

@Detroit: Not much surprise there, the recession nearly killed Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. Granted, all three are still alive, but we lost Pontiac in the process, Chrysler had to have their debt paid off with the help of Fiat (but hey, Alfa Romeo is making a return to the US, so it's not all bad) and Ford not only lost Mercury, but also some of their touch.

[up]Ford lost their touch? They're doing better than ever. And good riddance to Mercury. Pontiac, well, too bad about that one though.

Actually I'd say Obama's efforts to save Detroit really ended up paying off. Really wish he took more risks like that. Maybe I'm just biased because I look at news about the car industry often, but right now they're far more responsible than Wall Street.

Everyone in Michigan attacked Mitt Romney and the republicans for constantly saying that detroit should have gone bankrupt instead of letting the auto industry be bailed out (which worked)

This country is center-left. When asked if the government should do something about income inequality, 60% are in favor of such a concept, while 30% are unfavorable to it.

Problem is, liek said in in comments and here many times, that "what people want" and "who does goverment listen to" are two different things. People want one thing, politicians listen to corporations and 1%.

Oakland protestors interfere with coverage of a damn murder victim.

But I'm sure that's just the violent fringe.

(Well, actually, based on my milder local protest, it might be. But the rest are too hippy-dippy to kick them out.)

[up][up][up] and [up][up] Guess Congress (and Gov't as a whole in the US) needs to strat listening to the 99%, then! It's getting more than a little too late for them to keep making excuses... Now that Europe and Asia are on our case. And that's off subject a bit, but it affects us.

EDIT - Ninja'd. Don't got a lot to say, anyway - and that's a good thing, as far as I'm concerned...

Hate the cops - fine. Be a hot-headed asshole and charge the lines - fine, if you take your night in lock-up on the chin. Form a human chain to keep reporters from photographing a guy who was shot and killed thirty feet away from your protest, and give one of said reporters a concussion in the process - not fine in the slightest.
