OK, time-out. How on earth would the Katsuragi Expedition guys even manage to stab an already awake Adam with the Spear? Evaverse!Humanity hasn't developed any mechs — at least, not Angel/Evangelion-sized ones — at that point.

... Wait, nevermind. Forgot they could just communicate via whatever radio they must have with the Gunbuster and tell the pilot duo to wield the damn spear against the giant glowing alien.

[up][up]As Adam's example with the Gunbuster reveals, there's some kind of relationship between degeneracy reactors and S2 engines. While the former is beyond the Evaverse's technological level, the latter isn't; we know how much SEELE likes to experiment with it. Refer to Unit 04 and the Harpies in that regard.

Thing is, if Adam was able to detect a degeneracy reactor, what's the guarantee that the space monsters, if they exist in this universe, can't do the same with S2 engines? Since Adam and Lilith are on Earth, the Angels also swarm around Earth - and if the space monsters can indeed detect S2 engines, they might be attracted here by the Angels'. Thus, there's an additional urgency to killing the Angels: not just to prevent Third Impact, but also to end everything before the Angels attract attention from the next level up in the food chain just by being here.

Thing is, not everyone in SEELE believes Noriko and Kazumi's story about the space monsters. So the only thing the girls believe they can do is to join NERV as combat instructor and ops director, respectively, so that when the Angels do come knocking, everything is ready for a blitzkrieg.

[up]How did they do it in canon? Haven't you ever wondered about that?

And if I remember correctly, the Gunbuster was little more than an upper torso, a head, and the Vertical Mecha Fins, by the time it made it back to Earth in canon. How would they wield the Spear, by pinching it between the folding headcrest?

Adam was dormant when they did it in canon. They probably had some giant robotic arm mounted on a stationary base, or a power loader-style Mini-Mecha.

Did we misunderstood each other? Let me quote your earlier post:

The Spear of Longinus used in said experiment is what caused Adam to fail in its persumed attempt to xenoform the planet

I might have misunderstood what you meant but to me, this sentence means Adam was already awake when they speared it.

They probably had some giant robotic arm mounted on a stationary base, or a power loader-style mini mecha.

Or... what if they strapped it with solid-fuel rocket boosters and launched it at the Angel, harpoon-style?

I was about to suggest that Gunbuster could hold the spear with its teeth, when I suddenly rememebred that the Evangelions are the only mecha I know of that even have teeth.

It may be my fault for not clearly explaining. The Spear was indeed used in the experiment, and it (or whatever that happened because of it) was what awoke Adam, but the Spear's major effects on Adam were obviously not instantaneous, which is understandable, as unlike with Lilith, the Spear was not stuck in the entity. Apparently Dr. Katsuragi and co. didn't stab it hard enough that the Spear would run it through and stay there, in which case it most probaby wouldn't have run amok like it did, but instead rendered practically inert the same way Lilith has been in Terminal Dogma for most of the series (why she didn't move after Rei took out her Spear to kill Arael? Maybe it takes time for a Seed of Life to recover from the effects, which may be further compounded by the fact that Lilith doesn't quite have her soul intact within her body).

[up][up][up][up]Also, catch up with GBF Try someday. It has another teethed mecha. Hell, three teethed mechas.

@NDC: If its mouth opens and closes and can be reasonably believed to have a biting force, then yes. (like with how The Hero's robots in the Mazinger franchise have grills for mouths that let them exhale a Breath Weapon, but can't open up to bite things).

@Gunmen: I totally forgot TTGL was a thing when I said that, okay?! None of the Gundams have mouths... in their heads, some of the Power Rangers / Super Sentai mecha have mouths, but most of them don't... Getter Robo doesn't have a mouth, none of the more powerful units in Gao Gai Gar have visible mouths (the Dragon Series and Volfogg actually do, but they're covered with faceplates once they undergo Symmetrical Docking and Sanmiitai, respectively), King Gainer doesn't have a mouth, last time I checked the Linebarrel didn't have one, Combattler doesn't have one, Gunbuster doesn't have one.... Buster Machine Seven actually does have one, but she could beleivably take out ADAM without needing to use the Lance... IDK if Dix-Neuf has teeth or not, and I don't think Heroman has teeth either...

@Build Fighters: I have no intention to start watching it until I have gone through every major Gundam show that came before it. ....possibly excepting Victory due to lack of personal interest, and excepting AGE because everyone seems to talk shit about it.

Dix-Neuf has an animated mouth, so it might very well has teeth too.

Yeah, that was my hanging-up point - I was pretty sure that DN had a mouth, but couldn't recall if it had teeth with which to grab hold of things...

Dude, Dix-Neuf is a mecha. It doesn't need teeth to hold stuff in its mouth because its entire mouth is solid.

This track would go distressingly well with an EVA vs Angel scene. But then, it is a Ominous English Chanting track composed by Shiro Sagisu.

...heh, post (444)1.

You know... I still remember something about Anno saying he wants to turn Eva into a larger franchise. With his recent mental issues, I hope he'll pass the torch off to someone, even if temporarily, so that his vision turns into reality even if he can't do it himself.

If there will be future Eva installments not done by Anno and the old crew... I really hope at least one will have a soundtrack done by Hiroyuki Sawano, with remixes of Sagisu's old tracks. That is pure awesomeness just waiting to happen.

Yeah, I guess that'd make sense.

It'd be epic, and naturally eventually it'd have to come to writers/directors other than Anno.

....I was about to suggest Yoshiyuki Tomino doing an EVA series, but Brain Powerd is already a thing. [lol]

Urobutcher, huh?

_______

I'd also be really interested in seeing Go Nagai do an EVA series. As the Trope Maker, Codifier, and Unbuilder of soooo many mecha tropes, I'd be really interested in seeing how he'd handle the genre's most famous Deconstructor Fleet.

I meant Psycho Pass!Urobutcher. As much as I'd like to see a lighthearted Eva series, it would make the hardcore fans scream Ruined Forever. Lighthearted is just not Eva.

I just know the guy for Madoka and Gaim. And of the two, I vastly prefer Gaim. Which can be really, really messed up despite how bright and colorful it all looks.

Although I'm not against watching Psycho-Pass one of these days.
