Here is Colliding Souls
, chapter 1. Anybody want to send some reviews my way, it'd be appreciated...
The Coming of the First Ones
is a post-Instrumentality story I've been working on. Two years after men rose from the sea, Shinji returns from obscurity to defend Earth from the five remaining Seeds of Life.

Author of The Second Coming (NGE) and The Coin (Haruhi).
I dunno about that second part, but one of the fics on the recommendation page is basically a "Gendo one-ups a Peggy Sue plot" that's pure awesome.

x4: thanks a lot, and Asuka will surely make more appearances (though not in this next chapter, as Shinji will be largely away from Tokyo-2, trapped and fearing for his life) and likely have a chapter of her own. As for Kyoko, she just has to explain just what exactly she was doing underneath a scanning-tunneling microscope in Munich and how that led her to understand perturbation theory, too. That was definitely a fun dynamic for me to write.
Glad you liked it. There's some new stuff up on Space Battles aswell, and it does have a trope page hidden off way in the depths of the pit somewhere.
Though I really need to go back and clean up the earlier parts. And probably concatenate a few of them into longer pieces. It's six years old in places and really shows it.
This Space Intentionally left blank.Soooooooooooooo.... anyone else here read Superwomen of Eva? Myself, I prefer Mike313's [=SOE2 fics than the original fics by orionpax. Which is really weird, since uncrossedover, I prefer Marvel to DC. Anyhow, my favorite stories for SOE 2 are... well, they're all So Cool Its Awesome, but especially Magic Touch (for non-Buxom fanservice (and on one of my favored minor characters)) and Dark Lady of Tokyo-3 (for taking one of the least-known canon foreigners and making her AWESOME) stand out. Just one thing - do not get me started on Ultimate Rush. I'll never be able to stop gushing about how much I love it if you do. Actually, just read my reviews of it
(ffnet username of Gundam Kaiser).
As for orionpax's works in general, my main issue is that he frequently bashes and uses Character Derailment on Asuka; even in her own fic, the Flanderization into a heartless bitch is obvious and extreme - she comes across as more of a Villain Protagonist than an Anti-Hero. Ignoring that, though, none of his SOE stories are actually badly-written - far from it, in fact - and they have a tendency to hover a lot closer to Original Flavor, for those of you of that persuasion. They're just not as fun to read as SOE 2 in my opinion.
You know how Naru from Love Hina often gets flanderized into an unrepentant jerkass domestic abuser with a Hair-Trigger Temper? Asuka gets it even worse from this guy, somehow managing to stop just short of Complete Monster by virtue of the author managing to make Gendo even worse.
I really liked all the SOE2 fics, especially Lone Heir of Krypton. (Asuka is kind of a favorite character of mine, and her as Supergirl is really good.) Spirit, Mike's entry in the original SOE verse, is also really good. I don't like orionpax's writing nearly as much, especially since he kind of goes after Asuka, even in the story which is theoretically about her.
Shinigan (Naruto fanfic)I like Asuka a lot, and I think that if she could get past her issues and behave professionally (at least while on the clock) she'd easily be able to get the Faux out from in front of Action Girl and perhaps truly be a better pilot than either of the others. And I do like Lone Heir of Krypton as well, but to me it's just not as mind-bogglingly awesome as Ultimate Rush or Dark Lady of Tokyo-3.
Gotta say, though, the Emerald Courage version of the Zeruel fight had one of the top three greatest single Crowning Moments Of Awesome in the franchise yet. Two/Three Words: Ring-formed Unit-01.
DLoT3 and UR also had major CMOAs when the respective heroines of each story take out a fricken Angel. Granted, it's Matarael, but that still makes it no less awesome.
Makes me wonder if someone in the SOE project would finally get fed up with Orionpax's unsympathetic Asuka-flanderization and call him out on it, then proceed to do his own "Asuka as the new Ghost Rider" story.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Given that he writes Asuka and Naru the same way, almost makes me think he just has a thing against Tsunderes... If I were to write a fic like that, Asuka'd end up winning the Superpower Lottery like Shinji effectively has in Burning Vengeance - chapter four will illustrate that if I can ever get around to writing it.
That, or I don't quite know what.
Also, odd idea I just had. One of the most common vehicles for a crossover is Leliel (Angel #12), by means of spitting Shinji out in some world other than the one he's supposed to be in. On at least one occasion, he even became a Martian because it released him in a Martian body that was in stasis, and spacey-wacey made his energies fuse into the body.
I was thinking of something vaguely similar, where he gets transported into the world of Gao Gai Gar. And his soul is fused into - i.e., becomes an AI program that operates - GunDober, a Transforming Mecha motorcycle that specializes in ranged combat and a satellite character to Volfogg, becoming one of the arms for Big Volfogg. Thing is, GunDober and its melee-specialist helicopter counterpart, GunGlue, are The Voiceless and don't even have proper characters, basically existing to enable Volfogg's Combined Super Mode, Big Volfogg (note that this is not necessarily a bad thing). So 3G suddenly gets to deal with one of their comrades suddenly having a personality, and a depressed, insecure one at that. Except that Leliel's destruction by the crapload of N2 mines makes the dimensional link even bigger, meaning that Zonders can now plague Tokyo-3 while at least one Angel appears to menace G-Island City. And yes, this means that I could eventually have an Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny between the Evangelions and the Gutsy Galaxy Guard's Mobile Unit.
And, just because I can't hold myself back any longer, FIIIIIINAAAAAAAAL FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSION!!!!!!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLDION HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!! TRANSFOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORM INTO...... LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!

As someone who hates both Naru and Asuka, I have to say one of the few things I hate more is people who make them out to be stupid or unrealistically cruel, just to facilitate bashing. Asuka is already a thoroughly vile, unpleasant little girl who needs a shitload of therapy and a positive female rolemodel along with a smack from the cluebat; you don't need to make the university-trained prodigy an idiot to make people hate her as much as you do, incompetent fic writers. -_-
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!Okay, at the risk of derailing the thread for a moment, I am compelled to ask a quick question on the subject of Naru - anime, or manga? Because while I can't comment to the anime, manga!Naru is actually pretty sweet a lot of the time and there are numerous occasions where she plots to get Keitaro kicked out, but doesn't go through with it because of her conscience.
Manga. Never watched the anime.
In the interest of full disclosure, I was fourteen and had a huge crush on Keitaro.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!Ah, I'm a manga fan too. I'm the kind of fan who sees a character doing something despicable, then keeps an eye out for Character Development to prove that they're not really that bad of a person. The only current exception to this rule is Kurt Godel. I recognize he's not a Complete Monster, but god damn he infuriates me more than pretty much any ten complete monsters you could think of (at least that I know). Also, I can see, then, why you've got issues with Naru (and presumably, by extension, Motoko), and since that's something rather personal I'm not going to try and dissuade you.

Just did the research, looks like that would be pretty horrible.
