I prounounce it as Pwu-ela Magi.
As for Gurren Lagann, I just see as another Super Robot series that was initially a parody of classic Super Robot stuff and the setting is basically in the directors words described as Getter Robo meets Xabungle. Then, once Kamina Dies it eventually embraces the genre with pride and takes it to the next level before any well known Super robot series before it, making the mechs bigger than any other mainstream one, as a way to go beyond even Gainax's previous Super Robot Shows, Gunbuster and Diebuster.
That's how I see Gurren Lagann, anyhow.

Watch Symphogear![]()
More like it WAS a parody, in the first few episodes. but then once it fully embraced itself, it really gets rolling, while still being tongue and cheek, just like Xabungle.

Watch Symphogear
Its humorous almost entirely throughout, but by the time Kamina dies, it develops a strong narrative as well and takes itself seriously while still having its tongue in its cheek. It's more of a Reconstruction than a Parody.
>Reconstruction
I should use stuff here
for a TRS thread someday. Why do I keep putting it off?
How is it a misuse? It isn't a completely traditional Super Robot Show, but it isn't a deconstruction either. Seems to be made in sort of response to the questions raised by NGE, with the message of "we are capable of being whoever we want to be" brought to the forefront.
I thought reconstruction isn't just replying to deconstruction, but also presenting itself as more realistic/plausible. Gurren Lagann is so over the top it well, doesn't do that.

Okay this post kind of bugs me. Recontruction isn't just about making a genre more realistic. Sure you can do that, but the more important thing is addressing the deconstruction and rebuilding it into something new, often into a much more idealistic direction, which is what TTGL does.

A new set of ideals that matter to them, yeah. It kinda admits and embraces the inherent absurdity of the Super Robot and forges ahead on its own path.

Deconstruction is showing that the more rational/realistic way is a cynical one. Reconstruction is showing that an idealistic way of playing something can be just as plausible/rational/realistic. If it's just idealism that's required in reconstruction, then that would cover, hell of a lot of things. Also, "rebuilding" sounds, well, vague. And, um, see the post by Petro here.

Really the way people play hard and fast with Deconstruction and Reconstruction, I don't there is a set in stone definition for it. But from my understanding, Deconstructions pick apart a setting and the characters showing how they are irrational, absurd, et cetera. While a reconsturction takes what is observed from that and builds up characters that can over come the challenges raised by the deconstruction.
I'm displeased to find that this thread's title has not changed to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Gaaarrgh!
Reconstruction and deconstruction...I haven't watched beyond ep 3 (don't judge me) so I can't tell.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.
And that's what everyone in the former Madoka Magica page used to say. Besides, US official or not, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the official title in this site.
There, YOU HAPPY NOW, D.ROY!
Now, if there is another series that isn't the full title, don't do that again, mkay?

Watch SymphogearMeh, as expected. It's a reconstruction... if you do not watch other mecha stuff outside of Gianax's offerings. Yay for Narrow Reference Pools.

TBH, the show really never reaches FLCL levels of Anarchic madness. The show has its own type of absurd yet coherent internal consistency.
Kamina is essential to everything that happens, but he isn't as central as he's been made out to be.
