Oh man, I really want to see how this plays out. I'm a huge fan of Sarah Jane (the companion, haven't watched much of the show) and I hope it does a good job concluding her arc.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I've always found The Sarah Jane Adventures to be best during it's darker moments, e.g. the clown stuff and the first part of "The Nightmare Man".
You know what makes it all the more sad? These last few episodes have been the best SJA has ever been, and we had clear indicators of an ongoing arc.
I almost made it through without misting up, but the montage at the end got to me.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffTo be honest, I haven't really liked the more recent episodes of the series (including the last series). Perhaps I've gotten older, but it just seems to lack that certain something these days. I didn't like Sky, but perhaps I would've of warmed up to her later on.
"The Curse of Clyde Langer"* was great though.

"Sky" was silly but amusing, though unexceptional. "The Curse of Clyde Langer" was by far the best, but the last episode was also well above average, IMO.

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffWow, I thought there'd be more discussion than this.
I just finished season one. Are all the loose ends (Mr. Smith shutting down causes the moon to go back where it belongs instead of staying where it is in an unstable orbit, Chrissie suddenly being totally cool with Sarah Jane at the end) because it's written by RTD, because it's written for kids, or because it's RTD writing for kids?
Fresh-eyed movie blogKinda disappointed that Maria left the show one episode into series 2. She was the central character of the first season, so it kinda feels like if on Star Trek, well, not Kirk, but if Spock left.
Tardis Wiki says there's no official reason on why that change was made.
On the other hand, I really like the retracting Sontaran Helmet (though I'm iffy about the invisibility), and aside from the awful Title, Day of the Clown could be a Moffat-written episode.
Fresh-eyed movie blog"Day of the Clown" isn't too bad as a name, but putting the "The" in front of it ("The Day of the Clown") somehow makes it sound clunkier. No idea why.
I think after Maria's departure, or at least by the third series, it became more of an ensemble with no central character. Maybe that's me though.

It already seems more ensemble without Maria anchoring it, and I'm only one episode past her departure proper.
My own theory about Maria leaving is that they ran out of story for her parents, and couldn't write them out without getting rid of her too. Notice they replace her with a girl living in the same house, who is similarly too obstinately curious to stay out of it.
Fresh-eyed movie blogHad to binge the latter four episodes of season 2 last Sunday night to get it back to the library on time.
The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith vs. Father's Day. They're practically the same episode. Is one better than the other?
Fresh-eyed movie blogI'm actually a big fan of this show. (I'm am a Whovian after all.) I almost picked up Season 3 on DVD at FYE but I ran out of money.
And I don't mean to be the bringer of bad news, but it's almost been a year since Elisabeth's death. She was such a great woman. I'm just upset she died a month before I found out about the Whoniverse. :/

Series 5 Trailer here

The show will return for its final season in October. 6 out of a planned 10 episodes (3 Stories) were already produced before Elizabeth Sladen's death, it's not know if anything will be produced out of the other two written stories.
I'm trying to catch up with it, I couldn't catch it on TV.
