He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Wow Late-Arrival Spoiler Batman! Especially given Part 1 isn't even out overseas yet!
Yes, the manga's been out for decades, but a lot of people haven't read it...
(Not mad at the poster. Just how blatantly spoiling that trailer is. Seriously, that first thirty seconds is major manga spoilers)

Oissu!> Yes, the manga's been out for decades, but a lot of people haven't read it...
I'm going to death glares if I say "Manga, what Manga I only know about the anime!" aren't I?
New theme music also a boxOnly from the crazed section of the fandom who think the manga is the true gospel of the series and the anime was one long middle finger to Takeuchi's work by Ikuhara.
...seriously, love him or hate him, Ikuhara is kind of the boogeyman for a lot of people when they bring up the changes the anime made from the manga.
Althought now I think people regard the anime far better than the manga.
One Strip! One Strip!I thought that was always the case. The people who prefer the manga appear to still be the minority.
Macron's notesOf course, I'm familiar with the manga, the anime (both the original and the reboot), the musicals, as well as the 2003 TV drama.

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I do hate how Ikuhara treated Mamoru in the Og anime still.
Got rid of his cool special attack, even.
Watch SymphogearIn the general public, it is. The anime is still the most widely-known version of Sailor Moon. But within the fandom itself, there's a lot of back and forth about the manga versus the anime. Prior to Crystal, with very few new Sailor Moon media out there, it was kind of a big deal that a lot of the fanbase purists attacked the anime for deviating from Takeuchi's story. There were some widely-held opinions that I'm kind of surprised were so prevalent...like, a *LOT* of people hated Rei's anime depiction and called her "abusive" while defending her manga characterization. Plus, the usual fanbase rumors, like how Ikuhara supposedly hated Takeuchi (long debunked, there's no proof he ever said anything like that).
I personally think that Crystal's poor reputation and the renewed interest in the old anime once Viz got a hold of it wound up skewering the manga's reputation. Nowadays it's kind of cooled off (and I'd argue that, with Crystal switching to the movies to cover the last two arcs, the manga's reputation has improved), but I still frequently see that same back and forth play out.
Got rid of his cool special attack, even.
I'm not quite sure how much of it can be blamed squarely on Ikuhara, mind. That's the part that's puzzled me the most is how much of a role Ikuhara had in some of the changes between manga and anime and how much of it was other people. Keep in mind that Ikuhara only became the big head director guy or whatever once the anime got to the Black Moon Clan arc, and even then he was dealing with Toei butting in during Super S (which led to him leaving and eventually work on Utena).
Now obviously we know Ikuhara has spoken in interviews about how he didn't like Mamoru that much (albeit some of it is clear trolling on his part), and I believe Utena had a parody specifically to mock Tuxedo Mask's archetype? I need to watch Utena one of these days. But anyways, Ikuhara had *a* role but I'm not sure if he had *the* role. Beyond removing most of Mamoru's powers and reducing his importance, there's the stupid arc they gave him in R that I'm pretty sure was just a poor attempt at rehashing the "will they/won't they" shit in the first season, and then there's Super S gutting what I personally think is Mamoru's best arc in the series (albeit, again, with Toei infamously trying to push Chibiusa's prominence in that arc, I'm not sure how much of that blame goes to Ikuhara).
...at least I can give him props for directing the Sailor Moon R movie and making Mamoru bisexual
Junichi Sato was the main director for the first 2 series IIRC.

Even in the manga Mamoru is just... Not interesting. He's only good in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon to me, and to a lesser extent in the R movie because an alien is in love with him.
Add in Toei promoting Chibiusa in Super S and the Starlights getting all the promotion in Stars, there's just nothing for the character to do and no room for him to be anything but a Satellite Love Interest that the anime was forced to include because they couldn't get rid of him.

Oissu!Ikuhara didn't work on Wedding Peach, that was someone else.

Oissu! As far as Mamoru's character goes...yeah, he's better in the manga but he's still not interesting enough to me. I like the ideas his character brings more than I like him. His backstory is tragic enough but beyond that...meh.
Probably says a lot that much of the fanbase prefers focusing on Usagi and pals over Usagi and Mamoru.
Speaking of Mamoru, you know how Mamoru translates to "protect"? Well, in the old dub Mamoru's name is Darien, BUT his last name is "Shields", which, the old dub has issues, but I adore this pun with all my heart.
Love it or hate it the Di C dub had a lot of care and thought put into it. BTW I really wanted to mention this before but I couldnt find the time, Scout is a military term that Di C went with to rip off Power Rangers but its awesome when you realize this means the Sailor Senshi term was translated to make the girls literal soldiers.
Also if any of you wants to see another cute magical girl show that isnt Pretty Cure, check out Ojamajo Doremi. Its not Magical Girl Warrior show but its super cute and it's all about character development.

Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Keiko Kitagawa is voicing Sailor Cosmos. For those that don't know, she played Rei in the live action series.
This announcement has a lot of people confused. Some speculation is going around that it might imply a change in Sailor Cosmos's origin from the manga.
I mean, Sailor Moon is no stranger to casting previous alumni in other series. It probably doesn't mean anything. Keiko Kitagawa in particular had her career started playing Sailor Mars, she was probably overjoyed to return.
As for why she's not voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi, Sailor Cosmos' origins were never solidly explained, only implied. Maybe the movie is going to more solidly explain her connection to Sailor Moon and make her a descendent rather than a flat-out reincarnation.

Oissu!Unfortunately Kitagawa is now facing a backlash from the announcement of her casting, which is...ugh. Hate it.
That sucks. DX
Though, wrt: exactly what Sailor Cosmos is supposed to be: this live event confirms that she's a future Usagi, as the manga implied.
Then the casting is kind of weird. But still not worth getting hate over.
Oissu!I think people are giving the DIC dub too much credit because it seems like we treat the DIC dub as if it had no flaws and it’s the true way to watch Sailor Moon.
Nobody here is doing that...
Wedding Peach and Sailor Moon together would be a perfect marriage.
Oissu!
