Alexander turned toward Avea as she ate her salad, "Are there any creatures similar or related to the raptors of your world, or are they alone, in the sense that their species has no relatives?"

Avea thought. She didn't know the East that well. Finally, she said, "well, there's these remarkably stupid things we raise for meat, and sometimes pit fighting. The meat ones aren't usually a problem, but the fighting ones are positively vicious." With a laugh, she added, "good thing they're not dangerous if you've got a thick boot to kick 'em with..." looking at Lok'Wa, she hurriedly added, "no offense. But that's about it — there's birds and lizards, but the little bastards and the big raptors are the only ones in between."

Side Room

"In Fleigen, everyone uses magic. In the Republic, the poor use oil lamps and such. Large buildings like schools and clock towers have teams of rose tenders so magic is used for lighting and heating and running any clockwork devices. The richer homes might have a rose bush or two and one tender. The very richest have much more."

Bar

Bianca waits for the tea to reach her desired strength and surveys the room. It looks like the place William said he got stuck at once. If so, this is a good place to stay for the night.

Lok'Wa simply waved her three fingered hand, "No apology is needed, if our worlds are truly different like they are, then I can understand how life would be different," Lok'Wa hopped back onto her seat.

Alexander continued to sip his whiskey, "Life on our world is rather strange, there may be some similarities between our world and yours, but I still can imagine the differences between our worlds life forms."

"So, magic powers the societies?" Finn asked, tracing his finger on the table. "Could you explain the importance of the rose bush. You make it out as if they're essential for extremely potent magic." He wished that Bryan was there to show him the psychic flashlight.

"Not potent magic. All magic." Cyrus takes a few petals out of his pocket. "See how they're blue? They're not real roses. They're the reincarnated souls of Gartenkinder. The gods think they're tasty, apparently. Watch." Cyrus makes the napkin dispenser float in the air. The blue petals turn brown and crinkle up until they disappear.

"Ah, I see." Finn reached out his hand to touch the napkin dispenser. He mused the symbolic meaning behind roses and magic for a moment, but he knew that the symbolism would be different on Cyrus' world. But those blue petals did give off a psychic-like vibe. How different—or similar— was psychic energy compared to magic? Of course, Clark's Third Law came into place.

"To Oxfordian psychics, psychic energy is more of a science, more technical than creative. It's sad. We...they suppress their emotions as a mean for attracting Manifestations and yet not get hurt by them, but their powers are compensated." Finn took out his drawing pad out of his jacket pocket. He flipped through the pages, letting the edges scrap against each other. "Do you want to see what a Manifestation looks like?"

I swear I know this song.

It's William's solo from that symphony Professor Lane is pushing them through, isn't it? Frowning, Bianca picks up her tray with the teapot and cups and carries it to the side room. Yes, that's William at the piano. A sly grin spreads across her face and she spots Cyrus and another boy in a booth. She goes to them, sets down the tray, and whispers in Cyrus's ear, "Pretend I'm not here. I'm going to surprise him."

Still grinning, she silently climbs on the stage, not caring that her petticoats and bottom are showing, and stands behind William, waiting for him to finish the song.

Side Room

"You mean they all look the same? Oh, you better hide that drawing pad before William sees it, or else you might never get it back."

He glances at Bianca, gives her a small wave, and pretends she isn't there, just as she told him.

"Would you like some tea? Bianca likes it really strong, though, so I'm not sure if you're all right with that."

[Side Room—Finn]

Finn glanced at the stage, where a young woman was next to William. They all knew each other? The Cantina was definitely a supernatural—and an alien—place.

He slipped the drawing pad away. "Oh no, they don't look the same. They follow the same template: Black or white depending whatever they're negative and positive, shimmery and slimy skin, colored aura that's based on emotion, and so on. However, their shape and behavior is based on their emotion and what that emotion was targeted to. For example, the first Manifestation I ran into into in Memphis was a Bear Phobia. There was also a Mania that was shaped like the guitar and clanged notes every time it hit a surface."

He exhaled. He should talk more often, as when he talked, he talked a lot.

"And yes, I would like some tea. Mild, if you please. It been a while."

"With or without milk?" Cyrus pours the tea. It hasn't gotten too strong yet. "That's Bianca, by the way. My niece and William's... supreme commander. That's what her brother said she called it when she was nine, anyway, and I can't think of any other word except 'girlfriend', so..." he shrugs.

"With milk." Finn folded his hand together. His posture was noticeably looser, his words looser. His sheepish smile had more confidence behind it. Perhaps he should stay for a while. "So, the best term that I would give them that they're...'close'.

"It's too bad I don't have anyone that..." He reverted a little bit. He didn't really wanted to go there.

"Well, you can find ways to be happy when you're alone, too. I did it." Cyrus looks wistfully at William and tries not to blush again. "They're cute, aren't they?"

William ends the song with a plagal cadence and Bianca claps her hands on his shoulders. "Hi!"

"HOLY SHIT! WHO'S THERE? WHAT THE—" He stops flailing his arms around and looks behind him. "... oh. Hey. Weren't you going to Kartal?"

"I'm staying here for the night, apparently." Bianca pats his cheek. "Who's Uncle Cyrus talking to?"

"A guy. Just let me play piano, okay?"

She notices the strained smile on his face. "What happened?"

"Shit happened. Just go. Please?" He pats her on the head.

"All right." Bianca jumps off the stage and sits next to her uncle. "Hello. What's your name?" she leans over the table and rests her chin on her hand, tilting her head at Finn.

Finn leaned back slightly, a bit frightened by her arrival, but he quickly recovered. "My name's Finn," he said. More steam came from the tea cups as they were being poured. A whiff brushed his cheek, calming him down. Tea was one of the few things he missed about England. "So, how did you find this place?"

His theory was that there were portals on several worlds that let other people follow the visitors.

Avea placed the jewelery box beneath her seat and sat, quietly considering Alexander's words as she ate. The differences between continents were enough of a shock. But entire new worlds? It was quite a shocking thought. Finally, she said to nobody in particular, a little scared, "do you ever get used to..." she waved her hand around the cantina, "this? Can you ever? Having to think about other worlds?" She considered this, then realized what really scared her. "But, no... I can accept other worlds. But other creatures that can think? How... how unlike us some of them must be..."

"I was looking for an inn to stay the night. I'm travelling for a meeting between the heads of the city-states in Fleigen. William and my brother know this place is safe, so I think I'll stay here. Besides—" Bianca laughs sweetly. "I'll get to stay with William."

Cyrus looks down. "Damian was here?"

"I ran into him while he was leaving. Patch and Seymour were with him."

"Aw. And we just didn't notice them. That's sad." Cyrus gives Finn his cup of tea. "Here you go. Bianca, you think you could bring one to William?"

"He'll probably ignore it, but I'll try." She pours one for him, without milk or sugar, and sets it next to the piano's keys. William nods, but doesn't stop laying.

"Well, even he gets thirsty sometime." Sighing, Bianca pulls up her dress. "This is the most ridiculous design. How does Damian expect me to tolerate this?" She smiles nervously at Finn.

[Main Room]

For one moment, Bryan felt like he was falling through mist. The next, he landed in a strange place.

Bryan walked straight into the Cantina, whipping his head around in confusion. Was this the place Finn went through? The Memphis Guild identified the anomaly as some sort of portal. According to them, it may lead to another place in the world, like Brazil...but he was clearly not in Brazil.

A robust woman with an apron came up to him. "Welcome to the Cantina! I'm Cathy. How may I help you?"

Bryan faced her with certainly. "I'm Bryan. Had you seen my friend, Finn, come through here? He's my age, fifteen, short, frail-looking, wearing a black jacket—"

Cathy pointed to the side room. "He should be over there. If you need anything, call me over." She walked away with a bounce in her walk.

Bryan shook his head in bewilderment as he checked out all the patrons. What was this place?

Lok'Wa shrugged, as best as she could, before she gurgled "I can think. My species thinks differently from humans. We still get along. Featheren and humans form peace treaty thirty years before I born. Everything's been fine so far." She went back to eating so bits of fermented fruit from the drink.

Alexander contemplated what Avea had said, "Humans and Featheren have worked together for a while now. While our mentalities might be slightly different, we have had similar histories, in a certain sense. We've crafted stories, myths, and legends, imagined religions, had wars, made discoveries, loved our children, and hated our enemies. It is my belief that all species will be the same in that sense, only certain aspects will be different. I however don't think every being will be a singularity of the same aspect

"Thank you." Finn accepted the cup of tea and took a sip. A pinch of happiness filled him. After a cold day, the combination of milkiness and bitterness was a combination that stirred his insides, churning them like calm waves on a—

Bryan!

Goosebumps prickled on the back of Finn's neck. He felt Bryan entering the Cantina and heading straight toward the room. The door opened, and Bryan walked right inside, looking around. It was good that there was less of a crowd in the side room, as Bryan spotted him right away.

"There you are," Bryan walked over to Finn. He looked a bit steamed and bitter, but not angry.

"Oh, hi, Bryan." Finn held up the cup of tea. "This place is...interesting, so I decided to stay around. You should take a seat."

Bryan looked over the people sitting with Finn. Finn? Sitting with complete strangers? It was definitely an anomaly. But Finn looked like he was enjoying himself, so Bryan decided to take a seat.

"So, who are you guys?" Bryan asked. Something in the back of his mind told him they weren't of their world either.

"Hello," Cyrus and Bianca say at the same time. She laughs. "My name is Bianca. This is my uncle Cyrus. The piano player is William. You know Finn?"

The dress slips again and Bianca snarls as she pulls it up. Then the metal arm jams. "Of all the things— argh!" She takes off her left earring and it turns into a screwdriver that she uses to unscrew the plates on her arm.

Can I get a quick who's-who on this? I gave up reading through at around page 7. Also - this character is from a currently running webcomic, and his entrance chronologically follows a page that will be up in approximately two months, so PLEASE don't ask for backstory on him until then. Finally, apologies for my lousy writing - it's late, I'm tired, I've mostly been working on scripts for the last year, and my prose is rusty.

Ryan Davidson fell through the open door and landed with a muted thud on the ground. Steam rose from the charred patches of his flesh while blood flowed out of the many deep gashes that he'd only recently acquired. Suddenly, he realized that he could hear people talking. Lots of people. Fighting back the agony, he looked up and surveyed the room around him. The last thing he thought before blacking out was "Please don't tell me they drugged me again."

Bryan tried not looking at Bianca as she used her screwdriver to fix her arm. What type of world were they from? He couldn't pin down the clothes. Was it 1600's, or 1700's? He'll just have to infer based on what they said.

Bryan had sat next to Finn. Bryan scooted away an inch. "Yes. Finn's an exchange student and I'm a part of the host family. He was only supposed to stay one semester, but...stuff happened." He looked at Finn, who continued to sip his tea in content. "Did he already explain about—"

"Yes," Finn said.

"I wish you wouldn't read my thoughts like that." Bryan grumbled.

"Sorry. It's a passive ability."

Bryan tried contacting the psychic plane. He had some hold of it, but it was like a wall built between it and him. They were in some cosmic cantina, after all. He pointed to Finn with his thumb. "He introduced me into the world of Manifestations. I'm still getting used to it, but it's not like I can shut myself away from it."

[Cathy]

Cathy approached the newcomer. Another passed out person? It wasn't unusual though, since she seen stranger entrances.

She conjured up a stretcher and put him onto it. "Oh...he needs medical attention. Stephanie!"

Stephanie rushed into the room. "Yes?"

"Would you take him upstairs to heal him?"

"Yes, madame." Stephanie took hold of the stretcher, which floated three feet from the floor. She quickly scurried toward the stairs. Already, some of his minor wounds were stitching up.

Avea nodded, silently considering the words of Lok'Wa and Alexander. Finally, she said, "that's wonderful. My people are... a bit wary of outsiders. I'm fine — my father's a Kykzavi, after all — but it's so strange to hear that even different species can set aside their differences and work together. Surely, the peoples of my world can do the same. Perhaps one day we'll have a real peace, not this tense cease fire while we wait for somebody to show weakness..."

Then, thinking back and recalling exactly what they'd said, she suddenly said, "wait... a peace treaty thirty years before you were born? That doesn't sound very long ago. What... what did you do before then?" She suspected it wouldn't bode well.

"My brother reads minds," Bianca says. "Oh, not this gear again." The screwdriver turns into a wrench and she works on getting the gear loose. "He's very rude about it, though. Very rude." She glances at William before returning to the repairing of her arm. "Oh, dear, it's warm in here."

After she fixes the arm, Cyrus watches, bemused, as she unbuttons the back of her dress with magic, pulls it off, and kicks off her boots, leaving her in corset, petticoats, and stockings.

"Much better." She takes a sip of tea.

"For Finn," Bryan said, "He only catches snippets, and most of the time, it's from me."

"His mind is interesting," Finn explained as he took another sip. Bryan could tell that he was letting Bryan take center stage for him.

"So, do you guys have any idea what this place is?" he looked around.

"It's probably a pocket dimension," Finn said, "and we stumbled into the mutli-verse. The anomaly probably has to be taken out to prevent the anti-masquerade group from coming here."

Bryan rubbed his head. "Multi-verse? Don't tell me..."

"We can always have someone erase our...oh, wait, you don't like that."

"No I don't—" Bryan looked at the teapot, and then at the other people—and then at Bianca. "Why did you just stripped?" She got good arms.

Finn averted his eyes, trying not to let her get into her. He continued sipping the tea until it was all gone.

"It's warm in here." She gives him a strange look, as if the answer was obvious. "Maybe I should loosen my corset a little. It's not like anyone in here is going to spread rumors. None of you are even from the same world. And Uncle Cyrus wouldn't tell, would you?"

"Your brother will know."

"Who cares about him. It's not like I slept with William again or something like that." She smirks and pours more tea for Finn.
