Because human speech is notoriously imprecise and people tend to talk in absolutes ("You never put your dishes in the sink!" "People on welfare have no motivation to work!")?

Everyone knows that Ruth was - heck, she still is - suicidal. Rachel was the one who told the responsible faculty staff about it.
So it's not a case of "the readers know more than the characters" - Rachel was fully aware of the fact she was dealing with somebody going through psychological turmoil and she yet still decided to go on her whole "there's no redemption, so no matter what you'll do, you can't change" spiel.
This isn't rational, it's just petty. And the fact that she keeps reinforcing the impression every time she and Ruth are in the same room doesn't help. At this point it just feels like she's trying to get some cheap shots in.
And judging by the other comments on the webcomic page, I'm not the only one who feels uneasy about what she's doing.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Oh, wow. Becky knows Pokemon. I'd imagine that was on the list of "things funda-mental Christians don't like."
i'm attempting to recall things from a good decade ago, but i don't remember any of my (pretty straight-laced, fundamentalist [though not evangelical as far as i know]) churches i attended having an issue with pokemon, but it was a shock to me to later learn that the church i went to as a child had members who hated harry potter for the usual reasons (i.e promoting witchcraft), since my parents were less..."hysterical" isn't the word i want to use but fits well, as the rest of the congregation
granted this was all in a pretty liberal place anyway so your mileage may vary

[forum cryptid: it/it's]It's the "evolution" thing that makes them flip. (No, of course they have no idea that it is a complete misnomer, nor do they care.)
Becky why are you dressed like a cartoon dog from a 90s cartoon where the ratings are starting to slip?
I think it's a good look on her, really. Also, appreciate her opinion on Leslie's taste in women.
Oh god I just realized Becky strolled past Dina's room.
Eh, maybe she just felt like hanging out with her best friend for a bit. It's not like Dina doesn't appreciate a bit of me time.
I know it's a comic standard, but the way her eyes are appearing over her hair in the last panel freaks me out.
Yeah, it weirded me out too...I think they're supposed to be chasing her eyebrow but still.
-Gets flashbacks to things my relatives have said-
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Jeez, October already? Feels like August was just eight years ago.
The fact that it's only october is kind of wild to me. Like man what an eventful three months.
Read my stories!Amusing, considering christians used halloween to get pagans to convert.
Yep. Fundies don't just ignore science when it suits them, they ignore their own history. I mean, I could understand trying to tone down the constant slutty costumes for various reasons, but a significant portion of fundies seriously believe that this holiday is Satan's birthday.
Christmas has a similar origin, it was originally a pagan holiday used to commemorate the winter solstice, that's why I find the whole "keeping the christ in Christmas" thing hilarious as he wasn't even in it to begin with.
Aaaand now I love Sarah.
They put him into it and aren't keen on having him removed.
Hell I'd guess there was some of Red Scare in it as well, as we here had the festivities moved to New Year and made nonreligious.
Hm...yeah, I had thought that the Browns being anti-Halloween didn't seem quite in-character for them, though I figured it could have been the case.
Seriously though, Sarah, that last excuse just reeks of bullshit, how did you not pick up on that?
Oh God! Natural light! Can you really tell genuine fundie "logic" from specious bullshit?
= Spindriver =
She specifically says that it's something people like Ruth try to employ.
