It's well-known that Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan both did versions of All Along the Watchtower.

Question is, who wrote it?

I'm pretty sure that Dylan was sufficiently impressed with Hendrix's version (who wouldn't be?) that he said it was better than his original.

With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.

It's actually a bit more impressive than that: When Bob Dylan plays "All Along The Watchtower" he basically uses the same arrangement Hendrix did.
