It's not anime only. Fast Eddie decided it was and nuked all the non-anime examples.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. It's not. That's why we're renaming it and moving the old version of the page there. Then Eddie will redirect this one.
Why don't we make up a sandbox version of the trope to put things back together and to tweak the definition so that there's not so much gratuitous Japanese?

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickNo this character remains icy while still being loving, also Defrosting Ice Queen is closer to Tsun Dere than Kuudere. Related but not the same.
Plus Kuudere seems to be more well thought out in it's description and also details different types and ways the warmness comes out. If anything Defrosting Ice Queen seems like it be better as a sub-trope of this.

Rarely active, try DA/Tumblr Avatar by pippanaffie.deviantart.comI personally think the obsession with 'this has to be a love interest' is misplaced. Generally it requires a relationship for the inner warmth to show occasionally, just because the "kuudere" is very armored against the outside world — of course they won't show this to strangers! It requires something to get through — which generally involves having feelings for someone, whether it's for a love interest, a friendship, or indeed parental-type feelings, whether for a child, an animal, or whatever.
Right now, this is different from Defrosting Ice Queen in that (a) the inner warmth may be there all along, and (b) there is no requirement for the general "armored heart" thing to go away in a general sense.
Part of the problem with the anime-fandom-specific names, to my mind, is that they tend to pick up and get conflated with aspects of Japanese culture or other tropes common to Japanese media, which let the core, simple concept get loaded up with all kinds of baggage until it can't be applied to works that aren't Japanese or influenced by Japanese tropes.
I think I see that happening here, and this is one big reason why I prefer an English-language name for this.
A brighter future for a darker age.Should we get an alt-titles crowner up? I realize its a bit early, but there's only one option in the green (which does have supermajority, if only barely), and "keep it as Eddie changed it" is at absolute lowest.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.I made and hooked a blank crowner.
I don't know if it's been noted already in this thread, but there's already an old alt-title crowner
, which still seems to be active.
Don't think it was mentioned. That one should probably be locked, its pretty old. Isn't that the one Eddie overrided and said Kuudere was the only option?
Whatever. I added the three choices on the old crowner to the new one.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Icy Exterior doesn't actually convey that the interior is warm/kind, as opposed to... well, a mess of Ax-Crazy Unstoppable Rage (like Yandere or Yangire). I propose changing it to Icy Exterior Warm Heart for clarity.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I suggest Snowy Sweeetheart. Sweetheart can refer to both the "warm" part of the personality and the love interest factor, and the snowy of course refers to the icy side.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Trope does not have to be romantic, thus I cannot agree with Snowy Sweetheart.
I added Snowy Sweetie, which I think removes the romantic implications.
Also, whoever changed Icy Exterior to Icy Exterior Warm Heart, you can't change an option after people voted on it.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. It may just be me, but when I hear Snowy Sweetie I think of ice cream with candy in it.
My troper wallCold Outside Sweet Inside? If it has to be changed, I feel like that's a quick description that isn't cloying.
Ice Covering Warmth? Ice Hiding Warmth?

Crown Description:
Final crowner for the trope formerly known as Kuudere. Do not add more titles to this crowner.

That might work. It does imply that the interior would therefore not be icy.
