When it comes to abridged versions, I've read the Epic of Gilgamesh and can't really go any further back. [lol]

I really need to read a proper copy of The Epic Of Gilgamesh at some point. Then I can win these kinds of arguments automatically.

I haven't read Gilgamesh yet, but I've read similar works like Oedipus Rex.

Never read it. Never had a reason to.

That said, I might read it some day, since some of the stories have interesting allegorical meanings from what I've heard. Provided I can find one of the more comprehensible translations.
