Look. I get this is a PG-13 depiction of sexual assault. But the Ed's are possibly the only boys I have ever known who struggle between getting pummeled by a mob and making out with some horny, trailer park girls.
It's amazing how your perspective changes when you get older because I remember being deathly afraid for them when I was younger - being kissed by the Kankers was A Fate Worse Than Death.
It's not like its ever established that they have bad breath, poor hygiene, or that they bite/punch/hurt them either. In their first appearance they actually act pretty nice and submissive towards them. If anything Ed is probably the one with the most offensive hygiene and May's attraction to him is questionable.

Also, while we're talking about unlikable characters, Jimmy is the worst. Like the actual worst.
I have never liked Jimmy, even as a kid. Ever since I was 9, always the same.
The legend has returned.Am I the only one that doesn't mind Jimmy personally? Maybe he isn't the best, but he does have his good moments like Ed in a Halfshell (really good development in making him more assertive), A Fistful of Ed, and Here's Mud In Your Ed. Heck, one could argue he wouldn't come off nearly as bad in It Smells Like an Ed if he had only targeted Eddy rather than lumping Ed and Double D with him (even though they didn't give him the wedgie) given Eddy was being a jerk to him in the beginning unprovoked.
Sure there's crap like Tinker Ed that doesn't make Jimmy look good, but that's more the exception than the norm.
In "Key to my Ed" the Kankers start jumping on Ed to make him cough up a key. Lee holds her hands out, Ed actually coughs up a goddamned sink.
"This boy's got a big appetite."
Rewatching this show is a trip. My favorite episodes are the ones where some random foreign object enters the cul'de sac.

One could argue even then, Ed is shown to be nicer than Double D (who can be a bit of an Insufferable Genius at times especially in Sorry Wrong Ed, while Ed's moments are more due to being too dumb to know any better).
Jimmy seemed to become more of a little weasel as time went on, though I think he has the most excuse for it. He's arguably the nearest to having some sort of character arc in terms of how dark he gets around the Eds, especially looking at cases like his backstory with his headgear and "See No Ed". He's nearly always the guy who sincerely suffers because of them, rather than just petty irritance.
I'd argue his biggest dickmoves are around Sarah though. While Jimmy is consistently the one factor Sarah is sincerely nice and selfless around, they make a point that any rare time Sarah is on the losing end or Jimmy is offered brighter things, he will jump ship in a flash.

I remember hating Jimmy so much, but it's been ages since I saw it so I'm not sure what he did that earned so much fury from me. Now Johnny was a kid I thought had potential to be more of a friend and Plank was just comedy gold so I loved his appearances.
see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532Curious, what exactly do y'all think Ed's dad is like? We know from comments from Ed on how horrible abusive his mother is in constantly taking Sarah's side over his and constantly punishing him and even it is implied she forces Sarah to be more girly with the pink dress in Smile for the Ed (which she mentions gives her a rash) and hiding her box of tomboy toys in a chest (plus it's likely that her influence is what led to Sarah being horrible to Ed until the series finale).
But we never even hear Sarah bother to mention her and Ed's dad at all (even when threatening to get Ed in trouble, she only mentions her mother). Granted Ed does imply a couple times that his dad is a lazy guy who is overworked and watches TV a lot, but other episodes like Urban Ed and In Like Ed do imply his dad does take him on trips to the city and fishing trips on a canoe plus Ed does look happy when thinking his dad was home in Honor Thy Ed it does raise questions.
Personally, I'd say Ed and Sarah's parents probably are similar to Amity's parents on Owl House where Ed and Sarah's mom is likely the abusive and toxic one like Odalia and Ed and Sarah's dad is probably nicer (probably the only one in the house who isn't outright abusive to Ed) but is too overworked and tired to really to anything about his wife's actions just like Alador.
Strange but I was googling random Edx 3 fanart and a bunch seem to also involve comparisons to other cartoons.
Nope, scratch that. Different topic.
There's an Ed Edd n Eddy fanfic (NSFW, 18+) that's inspired by a TV show called Euphoria. I'm not usually for romance stories, but it works pretty well with Ed and the Kankers. Its actually really sweet.
Ed Edd n Eddy Double D X Marie A Euphoric Dream
Okay the title is overlong and its kind of raunchy with Double D and Marie in the beginning. By the 3rd to 4th chapter it gets mushy and it even writes May and Ed interestingly. And its not softcore porn-y.

I was reading Don't Drift a while back and it is a decent look at the Eds in their teen years.
Though it can get pretty edgy at times.
No, I can't see the Eds all grown up.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

None of them are air tight schemers. Even Double D is absurdly and detrimentally concise (eg. making a lemonade stand and counting every grain of sugar he adds per serving), and a lot of the time seems more occupied with criticizing Eddy and Ed than actually adding his own ideas.
The three of them clashing causes a lot of problems, but the fact they overrule each other is also arguably the only reason anything gets done in the first place.
