Funny thing about time, the anime is set in 2201. If Rick/Ryu was frozen 150 years ago, that means he was frozen in 2051, which is still in our future.
On the topic of dates, the original F-Zero manual states it is set in 2560. The F-Zero X manual is more vague, and only mentions that it's set in the 26th century, though it makes reference to the F-Max Grand Prix, which was held in the 24th Century. This is important to the backstory for the Skull, who was an F-Max champion.

If anyone wants to learn more about the anime F-Zero: Falcon Densetsu, then I recommend you head over to Random Action Hour,
where they have character bios and handy summaries for all 51 episodes.
Sorry, I took a while to say this but I was pretty high off of No Way Home & I was pretty focused on the reception for the movie.
Will Keaton I really appreciate all the answers you've given. It's a bummer to know that the F-Zero anime sounds like it has the same reception as Sonic X, but again, thanks for the answer & perspective.
There is a myth about a Virtual Boy game called Zero Racers. According to lore, it was an F-Zero spin-off that was made for the Virtual Boy, yet never released. This episode of Did You Know Gaming?
talks about it at length and delves into whether the game was actually real, or just a rumour. They conclude that it was real.
I was updating our Sweet Tooth page, because Zoda is eating sweets all the time in the GP Legend/Falcon Densetsu anime. I recall his character bio page in Climax shows him eating ice cream. While looking for that, I came across this video of F-Zero Climax, covering all the character bios and car bios, then doing summaries for all 51 episode of the anime.

My brother pointed me to this song, Worlds Of Doubt by Vincent De Moor.
If you're a big fan of F-Zero GX you'll recognize samples from this song used in several pilot profiles like Blood Falcon and Deathborn.
Edit: I did some more digging, and I found that song took samples from a sample library "Diamond Vocals" by Best Service.

Back in the day, the arcade game F-Zero AX had the ability to connect with the Gamecube game, GX allowing you to take characters from AX and port them to GX. Of course, you'd need access to an AX arcade cabinet. Now, all the content from F-Zero AX is on the GX disc, namely all ten characters and the single cup worth of tracks, but most of it is locked behind some really hard challenges. I do hope that if there is a GX Remaster, they make the AX content easier to access.

Honestly I'm actually excited for this. It's basically an expanded version of the Death Race from X, and my biggest issue with that mode that it wasn't a multiplayer mode.
Only thing I'm disappointed about is that since it's based on the SNES version the tracks will be the most vanilla the series has to offer, but at least they brought over the Cast from Hit Points boost from the later games.
You know F-Zero 99 is similar to a Fan Game that came out a while ago, I'm trying to remember what it was called?
Also, I wonder if the "Turbo Snail" will be a playable vehicle, that'd be funny!
I've played a few rounds of F-Zero 99 and learned the hard way how long it's been since I've last played an F-Zero game.
Get taxed. Idiot.

I'm guessing this makes it easier to integrate exposition.
