I have created two crowners
already, they just haven't been affixed.
If you want to make a new thread, I guess that would be okay. Generally the rule is against having more than one TRS thread for a trope at one time, though. If you do so, link it here.
"In the land of the insecure, the one-balled man is king." - HavenAs a sidenote on the Dude Thats Not A Lady option, not only is it too similar to another trope name, but we don't need ptitles anymore.
2025: the year it all ends?![]()
I don't know. You could create one or simply put a draft up here.
One character is shocked by another character's sex or true gender due to the other character's presentation as the other sex/gender. This is met with two different general sets of reactions based on the revealed sex/gender of the second character.
Yes, the actual Revelation trope does not fully exist yet IIRC (with the exception of Samus Is a Girl which is a extremely specific form of revelation which is misused for the larger missing trope.)
My contribution:
Sexual attraction is a funny thing, and sometimes if a character physically appears to be the right gender to appeal to their sexual preference, then they'll become attracted to them, regardless of what that character's actual gender might be. Usually said character's true gender is being kept secret purposefully and they are a male Disguised in Drag or a female Disguised as Male, but whether the misunderstanding was intentional or not, due to Rule of Drama, they will find out and it will be awkward, hilarious and possibly traumatizing for all involved.
This can happen to either gender of any sexuality. A male might be shocked to find the girl he's been crushing on is a male all along. A female might be confused to realize that hot guy she's been daydreaming about was actually a woman. Her male Gay Bestfriend will probably feel similarly. Almost always there is shock upon The Reveal, possibly even some disgust, anger or disappointment on the part of the character who was feeling the attraction, but usually the two characters can reconcile by the end and become friends. Other times it might not bother them, or after a period of consideration, they'll decide If It's You, It's Okay.
Compare with Shapeshifting Squick, Dude Looks Like a Lady, Bifauxnen, and Samus Is a Girl. Often accompanied by Attractive Bent-Gender. Contrast Jumping the Gender Barrier and She's a Man in Japan
Constrast with Sweet on Polly Oliver which is the gender inversion reveal, usually with the exact opposite reaction.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!The only name I could think of was Surprise Incompatible Gender, which is...adequate. I added it to the crowner, but I really hope we can find a better one.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.I added my original suggestion from way back when: Dropped A Gender Bomb.
Get a slant at this glossary of Pulp Detective terms. It rates. Pipe that?My only problem with that is that it could just as easily indicate Sweet on Polly Oliver.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)12:5 for Dropped A Gender Bomb, everything else has less than +1.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Dropped A Gender Bomb seems ridiculously vague, as if it could just as well be about shocking unconventional aesops on gender issues or something.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartAnd the trope isn't about the reaction. There are multiple different reactions, shock is just the most common. It's about the situation of a character being attracted to another character which he or she thinks is of a compatible gender, only to find out the character isn't of the compatible gender. (Guy likes girl, finds out girl is actually a guy). It's the situation, and the reaction is included in that.
I think something like Wrong Gender Attraction Reveal or Wrong Gender Attraction Surprise is Exactly What It Says on the Tin.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Edit: misread the example
If the girl is revealed as a guy, and the first guy is fine with it, then the trope is subverted. It's the reaction to the revelation, not how the reaction is shown.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Do we have a trope for the inversion yet? Guy is friends with a guy, then the second one turns out to be a girl? I thought for a while there we were saying this was any kind of Gender Reveal (in which case that should just be the name), since about half the examples used the format I just mentioned (with some gender-swapping, of course).
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. No, Sweet on Polly Oliver is when a guy is freaking out because he's attracted to another guy...and then it turns out to be a girl.

Crown Description:

Doesn't this also need a new name according to the crowner? I'm of the opinion a brand new thread for the rename should be started, something that should be quick and dirty, with a crowner attached from the beginning with name suggestions to move that part of the business along.
