Marcel, despite his skepticism, chose not to turn away. Fine then, if there wasn't time to explain this situation then he might as well see why.
But once everything had changed...Dumbfounded was the best word to describe him, the world suddenly became prettier to look at, like a work of art it seemed. The bigger sight, of course, was the castle, no longer in ruins like it was seconds ago. Needless to say, he couldn't think of anything to describe this at all.
"Um...Okay, I guess we can hear you out...If it'll help make sense of this, then I'm all ears!" He said, giving a slightly nervous chuckle at the end.
Toshiko had not turned away. Somehow, she felt like that would have meant abandoning her classmates, something she could never do – and besides, she couldn’t help her intense curiosity as well.
Now, the tall girl’s face was a picture of awe. She blinked and turned around, taking in the new world around the group but hardly believing it. This is like a dream... At a loss for words, she crouched down and brushed her fingers over the courtyard cobblestones. They felt rough and solid, real. The spirit of the city… Is this what the castle used to look like?
Tosh turned back to face the strange girl in pink. Her words had sounded crazy before, but now, in the face of this, the talk of “defending the city” were starting to ring true.
“Who are you? What- what is this place” She Toshiko asked the girl, her voice noticeably less steady than it had been a moment before. Then, remembering what the girl had said earlier – we are in kind of an emergency - she pulled herself together. “What do you want us to do?”
Panting slightly, Alice had caught up with Miki in the courtyard, where a pink-clad woman seemingly awaited them underneath a glowing tree. The young girl's jaw had dropped at the sight. That woman was beautiful, but... unearthly?
She had pretty much kept silent throughout the scene, seeing as everybody else was just asking the same questions Alice herself wanted to know, but the woman instructed them to either turn away on look on with their hearts.
Alice wasn't exactly sure how to do that, but she simply watched regardless, and gasped when they arrived in some sort of alternate world. It was... the same as hers, but everything looked different. Especially that rebuilt castle.
An emergency? What is happening? Alice wondered as a few other students showed their hesitance or asked more questions. Something bad was happening within Sakurasaki? she remembered the possessed statue, wondering if that had anything to do with it.
What should I do... Alice wondered, a hand absent-mindedly entering the pocket with her orb. Daddy, can I trust her?
Of course there was no answer, but Alice suddenly felt sure of her path. Taking a deep breathe, Alice said to the woman.
"I... I'm not exactly sure what's going on here... but if I can somehow help the city, I'll do whatever I can."
The ethereal girl's warning sounded like something out of a horror to Tom, when a story started to get story. And yet...the boy didn't walk away.
When the environment changed around him, Tom looked around him at awe. The contrast of the castle he saw now compared to the ruins before may have made it more of a sight to look at.
After the World of Swaying Cherry Blossoms sights, Tom turned back towards the girl. He would ask what was going on but that question had already been asked. There was one question unasked though...
"What does incredulity mean?"

Some people say I'm lazy. It's hard to disagree. The sound of the girl's giggling soon filled the whole courtyard after hearing the question of the small boy "It means to not believe" she said, smiling kindly at him.
"And yes, this is all quite real. Ever shifting, mystical and outside normal reality but still as real as me"
"And as I said, I want you to help me fight to protect the city. However, it isn't the kind of fight that you're used to hearing about in your everyday lives. There are dark things in the Hoshimi Temple of the Lower Hill... they are the ones behind the attacks all around the city"
"Still, should you accept the role of defenders of Sakurasaki City you shouldn't have much to fear from them"
"As for what form the defenders would have..." The girl giggled once again as she briefly submerged herself in her own thoughts "Yes, In another time you would be called something else... But the defenders of this age should be Magical Girls and Boys, don't you think?"
"So, to put things simply" The girl then took one step forward, her right hand resting on her hip as she looked at each of them in turn "Are any of you willing to have your magical talent bloom, become a Magical Girl or Boy and then go save the Hoshimi Temple from further harm?"
"Those who are not willing may stay for some flower viewing" The girl lastly said, her mischievous air coming back to her for just this moment "The blossoms here are beautiful here all year round"
The giggling irritated Tom for a bit until the girl's welcoming smile made it seem less insulting.
Tom's love of anime made the boy think about the modern name of defenders. Magical Girl...she's using those to appeal to the girls here...she's talking about defending the city so it's going to be like being a superhero...
With Tom linking magical boys to superheros, a rush of energy hit him. "I'm in! Give me all those awesome powers I can take whatever villain you throw at me!"

Some people say I'm lazy. It's hard to disagree.Alice's eyes widened in shock. "A... magical girl?" She whispered. Well, if that was true, becoming a hero would be no problem! No, wait, she was supposed to keep her identity a secret, right? In that case, becoming an inspiring hero would be difficult... ah, but weren't there heroes with unknown identities that still inspired others?
Alice was idle for several moments, thinking it over. The woman was incredibly odd and mysterious, but Alice certainly believed she could grant magical powers (After all, didn't she just take them to another dimension?). It sounded like a good deal. Alice got to be a hero (and maybe some sort of magical team would be formed as well!) and she got magical powers.
"I'll do it," Alice said again. "I'll help fight the bad guys."
Miki's jaw dropped. First, they'd met this girl, who was dressed like she was ready for some kind of ceremony. And then this... place. This place was amazing! Beautiful! And it was some kind of other dimension? She'd said as much, nigh incoherent because, well, when it was the first time being teleported into another dimension, you were generally kind of shocked.
And then, the girl made her offer.
Magical girls.
We'll be fighting as magical girls if we accept.
Miki wasn't able to speak for several moments. Magical girls? Like in all those anime and manga? She wasn't even sure what to say to that, aside from yes, but... she couldn't just say yes, right?
Could she? Was that alright?
Screw it.
"Yes!" Miki cried.

"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."Once the girl had given her offer, Marcel dark things attacking the city? As unreal as that sounds, it was kind of hard to shrug off something like that when they were...well, here. Though, it appeared that some of the kids were starting to accept the offer already, he was going to remark about having better judgement but he was in no position to make such a claim right now. If he was so worried about these kids making a bad decision and getting hurt, then he should probably say 'yes' just to make sure that won't happen.
Eh...What harm could it really do? She said we'll be fine...It shouldn't be too bad...
"Alright I play along." He said. "Someone has to be there to make sure these kids don't hurt themselves fighting, right? And if it'll help stop what's happening to the temple, then I think I'll save the flower viewing for another day for another day, if you don't mind!"
Of course, he certainly wasn't going to call himself a Magical Boy, hell no. He'd rather give himself a better title like...Well, he couldn't think of anything at the moment, but he can stress himself about that later. After all, time wasn't really on their side.
"Great!" The girl said as she clasped her hands together "As expected of the children of this city... your spirit certainly does not disappoint"
"Now, let me help you take that very first step... into unlocking your true potential" the girl said, taking a single step towards them and bringing her index and middle fingers towards her lips "I, Hanami Sakura, bestow upon thee the Blessing of the Spring Time Flower"
With these words she lay a small kiss upon her fingers, merely adding a small "Awaken" before she softly blew upon them towards the young would be protectors of Sakurazaki. From the blown kiss a handful of pink glowing petals flew towards each of them... and the moment they received the blessing they would experience for the first time in their life their transformation into Magical Guardians.
"A... Magical girl?"
Hikaru could hardly believe what she just heard. It was like a dream coming true in all senses of the word. Since she was a little girl, she had had literally no other dream and ambition for her adulthood. Perhaps she had watched one too many anime starring those flashy, frilly defenders of justice who battled fearsome * monsters while shouting philosophically meaningful * catchphrases. Per haps her life had always been boring like that and she desperately needed something to lend meaning to it.
What everyone could see was that throughout the whole deal, the girl was in a shock-induced quasi-comatose. Anything the second voice in her head spoke seemed to have zero effect.
Now
"What the... what sort of vile trickery is this?"
The gruff, militaristic voice in Hikaru's head responded to the kimono-clad lady's 'blessing' by way of a minor freakout. He managed to return to his normal calm and collected state quite quickly, especially when he realized what that blessing was supposed to be.
"May the Almighty Lord forgive this sinful soul for consorting with the heathen's vile magic," he let out what seemed to be a mild prayer. "Very well then, I can do this. I must do this."
The other boys and girls in the immediate vicinity would see that Hikaru's transformation would start a little slower than the other, though it would be no less flashy
.
Her entire body was surrounded and blanketed by what appeared to be a blood red and white banner with a soaring white eagle in the middle of a coat of arms
◊. However, instead of stripping her naked during the transformation, articles of clothing of copious weight kept getting piled onto her person...
Until when the transformation sequence finally came to an end, she stood before the group... looking nothing
◊ like a magical girl. At all. Her body was clad in a heavy-looking suit of half plate that, in her opinion, did nothing but to make her look ugly and cause her no small bit of chest pain. Instead of a fancy-looking staff, she got herself a long pike about three times as long as she was tall. Her head and her long hair was almost completely ruined by a steel helmet with a large nasal guard that almost obscured the entirety of her face. And from behind her shoulder, two pairs of enormous, wooden, ostrich-feathered wings spread above her head, being as rigid and non-cute as it sounded.
Needless to say, the girl was distraught.
"What... what has happened to me?"

Support Taleworlds!Miki's transformation, however, was far more in line with what someone would expect of a magical girl transformation. There was a flurry of light and noise, a throbbing, twisting mass of color surrounded her. Cherry blossom petals, to be expected considering the source of the magic, fluttered about both inside and outside of the mas of colors.
She looked around, somewhat in awe of the magic that was now acting on her, when she suddenly felt her school uniform, and her underwear, stripped from her body. There was the briefest moment of shock and embarrassment, though she was sure no one could see her, before a warm sensation suffused her body. Miki blinked, and looked down as threads of prismatic light wove over her body, knitting into a costume. First, a white dress with a gold trim, ending at her knees. Then a multi-layered white jacket, with gold criss-crossing it.
Miki remained suspended in mid-air, until the final piece fell into place. A large, perfectly round, red globe, slightly larger then Miki's own head, faded into view. Around it, a staff began assembling itself, ending up roughly a third of a metre taller then she was. It was white, but the top was golden.
She took it in her right hand, and the viel of colors faded, leaving her standing there to look her current state over.
"Waaaa... this... this is incredible!"
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."When Sergei had finally reached the top of the hill he had not spoken a word, staring idiotically at the girl in the kimono. Where had she come from? Wasn't there just a light there before? Before he could ask anything, though, she asked if they wanted to protect the city. That was completely out of left field* , and he thought it over for a few moments. Perhaps he too could be like the Bogatyrs of old like in the stories his father used to tell him. Perhaps he could even be a modern day Ilya Muromets! The temptation was strong, but his clearer thinking side once more came to the fore. Why would they ask teenagers and children, of all people, to protect the city? Couldn't the adults handle it just as well, if not more so?
The girl spoke up once more, telling those who wanted to look away to do so now. Lord knows that it was a feat of Herculean proportions to keep his eyes open, but somehow the girl made it easier. There was something... relaxing about her. Sergei's eyes widened in shock as the Sakurasaki City he knew and loved melted away to be replaced with a gobsmackingly beautiful vision. He thought that it was too good to be true, and apparently Toshiko had thought the same thing, since she touched the ground to check it was real. Seemingly, the answer was "yes".
The girl's voice brought him out of his reverie as though someone had slammed on the brakes in a car, bringing Sergei juddering back into the present. Whether or not to become a 'Magical Boy'...? This was going to be the hardest decision of his life, and Sergei knew it. He had to tread carefully and choose wisely, for he knew that there was only going to be one shot at this. If he chose poorly, then he would regret it for the rest of his days. This city, though... he had been brought up in it, and he couldn't leave Sakurasaki City defenceless. He just couldn't. He wasn't particularly happy about having to fight against an undefined foe - the girl's lack of specifics was somewhat unnerving - but it was his duty. Fate had brought him here for a purpose, and maybe, just maybe, he had what it took to protect his beloved city and maybe make the world a better place. Hell, this might even provide a way to get out of the military path his father had set him on.
Slowly, he nodded.
" This is my duty, isn't it? " he wondered aloud quietly. "Yes. Yes, I will do it."
The girl then did something, and he watched, hypnotised, as a few pink petals made their way slowly, ever so slowly, toward him. A few seconds later, it began.
Although to an outside observer it had appeared that a wave of ice had rippled across his body, changing everything it touched with a loud tinkling noise, Sergei was transfixed by it as he saw it unfold in real time. First to change were his hands and shoes, the former of which were now wearing a pair of inky black gloves and the latter had become a similarly coloured pair of boots. His school uniform changed into a loose-fitting white robe that swayed with each minute movement, its' edges and cuffs a brilliant blue. Underneath this he was now wearing a blue t-shirt underneath a black, white and blue waistcoat. His black trousers had a couple of angular white lines running down them.
A blue glowing outline of a staff of some sort and a odd metallic keen announced the arrival of his weapon, which fit snugly into his grasp. His body and the metal felt cold - refreshingly so - and the ground beneath his feet froze over for a few moments. Sergei stood there, dumbfounded by the sudden change. It seemed some of the others had underwent a similar event.
"Wow," he said breathlessly. "This is... amazing."
Locking you up on radar since '09"I... I'll do it."
Kei watched as the petals flew towards her, and was instantly engulfed in a swirling vortex of gold and blue surround her, with pink cherry blossom petals swirling through it. This was followed rather promptly by her school uniform exploding. She had just enough time to be embarrassed by this, before a tight-fitting black t-shirt and a pair of black cycle shorts materialised over her body.
This was followed in short order by a sleeveless yellow dress that barely reached down to the middle of her thighs, and a pair of pale-blue thigh-high socks. A pale gold bow-staff then materialised in front of her, and grabbing it in the centre with her right hand caused a blue pattern to spread across its surface, along with causing a pair of black, yellow and blue fingerless gloves to appear over her hands, and a yellow cape shaped like a pair of folded wings draped itself across her back and shoulders, clasping just below her neck. Finally, a simple pair of shoes, a darker shade of blue to her socks, appeared on her feet, and the vortex faded out, revealing her to everyone else.
"Wow. That was... weird."

"Yup. That tasted purple.""Magical Girls?" Toshiko's voice regained an element of scepticism at that particular title. This was surreal, if it hadn't been for the utterly convincing change in the world around them, she would have thought this was some sort of reality show prank. But this is real... and it already feels like we've stepped into an anime. Is becoming a magical girl such a jump from this?
Tosh was amazed at how much the thought appealed to her, despite her worries. A magical hero, using her powers to defend the home she loved. She'd always wanted to put a stop to vandalism - the attacks, she realised now - and now she was being offered the power to do so.
And then there were all these kids, jumping at the offer. Mercel stole the words right out of her mouth - They needed someone to watch over them, someone to help and defend them if necessary. Drawing herself up, she nodded to the strange woman in pink.
"All right, I'll do it."
The glowing petals of the blessing tumbled towards her, and she steeled herself for, well, anything. When they reached her, the pink light twinkled slightly before pulsing brighter, the glow shifting into a brilliant blue shine that hid her from view as they spiralled around her.
Like the others, she felt a moment of shock as her clothes dissolves around her, but the feeling was eclipsed by a sense of awe as the blue light coalesced and became solid, forming a skintight layer that covered her, ankles to shoulders. As the light faded from blue to a matte black, another layer materialised - a long grey-and-blue coat that flapped in the warm breeze as it became solid. It billowed back from her body for a moment, before a harness of black belts wove itself around her chest and waist, pulling the garmet tightly around her. Her extremities tingled as gloves and boots took shape, and she felt sometime tie itself around her forehead - a bandanna with long trailing ends.
Finally, the last of the light flowed together to form something before her, a long thin staff that built itself piece by piece. When it was finished extending it was as tall as her, capped at each end by faintly glowing blue rods. On instinct, she reached out and grasped it in the centre, taking its weight in her hand. This seemed to signal the end of the transformation, as the remaining blue lights quickly faded and fell to her feet.
The newly minted magical girl stared down at herself for a moment, awe still evident on her face. There wasn't much room for doubt now. This was real.

Alice watched as the petals were blown in their direction, and almost reached out to grab one, for some reason. Maybe it was for the best, because Alice suddenly found herself surrounded by a column of fire.
Frozen in shock and fear, Alice barely registered her clothes disappearing, as if melting away rapidly, to be quickly replaced by a red light. New clothing began to form, the garment suspiciously similar to a one piece swimsuit, with the leggings, skirt and jacket soon covering that. Finally, fingerless gloves and boots coated her hands and feet.
To finish off the transformation, Alice's orb had somehow found itself floating in front of her, glowing brightly. Something long seemed to grow from the side, eventually revealing itself as what appeared to be a ruby staff, the orb topping it off.
The column of fire disappeared, leaving Alice to sink weakly to her knees, the staff falling to the ground in front of her. She didn't even register the costume, too busy trying to come to terms with the fact she could have just burned alive right there. How she came away unscathed (hell, it hadn't even been that hot) was a mystery, but Alice was more concerned with why she was surrounded by fire, of all things.
Marcel watched as the petals had flown towards him, he supposed he might as well get ready for whatever was going to happen, no need to appear to be all talk after all.
Once they were close enough, they started glowing brighter, changing to a bright white and then gold color, and soon he appeared to be surrounded in sparks of the same color. Starting from the bottom, from his perspective anyway, the sparks started rising up in a ring around his feet. First came the boots, then his pants still black but less casual in appearance, and finally it moved up to his body, the black long sleeved jacket that would complete his uniform. As the ring had been reaching his neck, the trim of his jacket had glowed before settling on a yellow color, as did the markings on his upper sleeves, a fleur de lis on both sides.
Then, holding out his hand, a bolt flashed and he was soon holding his weapon, a sabre with a barrel melded in on one side, it seemed.
And once that was all done, the sparks quickly died down, and that was that. With the transformation over, Marcel looked himself over and the weapon in his hand. His thoughts, which had firmly been stuck to 'What the hell is this?!' during the process, had slowly been taking a more positive note. It wasn't elaborate, but he certainly thought the uniform looked nice. Although the power itself...yeah, that would definitely take some getting used to. But what's done is done, looks like there was no going back.
When the petals were in Tom's range, he started to shrink. His feet became further from the ground as the boy's body was held in mid-air during the transformation. Parts of the boy's body began to change. His ears took a new shape, hitting him on the cheeks when they took their new form. His hands and feet started to become paws. A tail emerged from his body and started to grow fur, as did the rest of his skin. Tom's clothing was too large for his new shape, so it fell off and soon disappeared.
When his body stopped changing, Tom landed on the ground with his four feet. Looking at his new body, he wasn't impressed. If Tom was going to transform into something, it should be something cool like a tiger or a dragon. Instead it was something...adorable! He looked like a cross between a fox and a puppy. Several sounds came out of Tom's mouth, although his new form's mouth could not allow talking, it was pretty clear that the noise he was making were equivalent to a cluster of swears.

Some people say I'm lazy. It's hard to disagree.Cleaning duties, you'd think everyone hated them. Today the children had proven that wrong, and to Sandra among them, cleaning the monument had not only been an honor (such a splendid work of art!) but it gave her the chance to see it up close; later that day, a clay replica of the monument would probably have been added to her collection.
The shock that came when the paint slowly reappeared and the statue cracked though, brought her to tears and wiped any plans she had devised for later. She became so desperate, the voice offering her the chance to save what she had worked so hard to preserve moments ago couldn't be questioned by her panicked mind. She ran, following another group of kids -though they went unnoticed by her- towards the ruins.
Now, with the group of children and teenagers around that mysterious girl, and all of them within a world that looked born of fantasy, she had accepted. She simply nodded her head with tearful eyes.
The petals floated towards her, but they stopped short and impaled the ground, surprisingly, with enough force to make a cloud of dirt and dust rise, swirl around her body. Her clothes slowly turned to dust, and were quickly replaced by hard black boots and gauntlets first. Out of them spread a cool metallic cloth-like material which covered the rest of her naked body, as the clothes faded into the cloud of dirt.
Next, from the very stone walls of the castle came slabs that connected with each other, turning into an overall construct over her torso. Lastly, rising from the ground came a staff carved out of marble, clay and quartz with 2 rocks, one on each end; they then cracked, revealing hammerheads.
She held the hammer aloft as soon as it rose, and the twister of sand, stone and dirt vanished, revealing her armored body and a pair of polished marble goggles on her forehead.
"This... IS AMAZING! They look so beautiful!" she gushed over her outfit and weapon. To her they weren't exactly that, but pieces of exquisite art - they just happened to be attached to her body for the time being.
This didn’t last, the problem at hand came to bring her back to reality, they now... no, still had a mission.
OH GOD WHY AM I A CAR!? - ForzareMai had missed the meeting for the shine cleaning. Although she wanted to go, she had other commitments to attend to. Once those commitments were over, though, she went straight to the shrine to see if she could still help out...only to see one of the statues begin to crack and "bleed" paint.
The next thing she knew, she was standing on a hill with the other students, listening as a girl explained that they would be able to protect the shrine and the city as...Magical girls and boys?
As strange as that sounded, she wanted to help protect the city, so she silently nodded in agreement.
As the flower petals reached towards her, Mai was surrounded by a bright light. Her school uniform changed into an orange and red top, and a matching skirt. Around her arms were long sleeves that reached up to her elbows, but weren't connected to her shirt, and red shoes.
In front of her appeared a silver baton, which fell into her hands as the light faded.
Oh,wow....

A wicked smile spread across Alouette's face as the girl in the kimono made her pitch. She wasn't the type to sit still at home and watch anime, but the glimpses she had caught of magical girl anime had convinced her that being able to shoot giant beams of energy at people would be a very awesome ability. The cutesy costumes didn't exactly appeal to her, but she supposed it was a fair trade-off for the abilities of a magical girl.
"Count me in," she added to the chorus of assent.
Now
The flurry of cherry blossoms circled around Alouette, staying in place for a moment before a number of glowing blue rectangles shot up from the ground, hanging in the air around her to create a screen of light. Like most of the others, Alouette's clothes disappeared for a moment, prompting an outraged cry from the young delinquent as a new outfit wove itself around her body. Black cargo pants and boots melted into existence over her legs, followed by a black T-shirt for her upper body. A long, dark blue coat draped itself across her shoulders, and, in a flash of light, a silver wrist guard appeared on her left arm. There was a soft humming sound as the screens blinked out of existence, and a silver staff dropped from the sky, balancing on its end, a dull sphere perched on top of it. Alouette reached for the staff, and with a whirring sound, the sphere began to glow with bright blue light.
Her transformation complete, Alouette turned to look at the others, a satisfied smirk crossing her face. As far as magial girl costumes went, she could most definitely live with this.
Anyway here's Blackwall"My, my, this is quite an interesting group we got. Very dashing even if there's a couple of irregulars" Sakura said as she looked at each of the new protectors of Sakurasaki city... and crouching to see the little fox puppy warrior more closely "This hardly ever happens... You got quite a special nature to cause such a change"
It was then when the girl of the cherry blossoms winced as if she alone had heard a particularly loud noise "Ah... So little time. I'm afraid that it's essential that you kids get going right now"
Sakura put on a serious face as she faced both Marcel and Toshiko, as she saw the two had a drive to take responsibility for the rest of the group "You must run back to the hill through this spirit world... at this rate they will cause an unrepairable damage. Once there you must drive them off"
Then she addressed the whole lot of them "As for how to use your magic... it isn't just a tool. It is now a part of yourself, powered with your spirit and heart. Just like a member of your body, you just have to feel for it and try to make it move to your wishes"
"Go now! I'll be with you in this challenge, even if you cannot see me"

"Wow! Awesome!" squealed Hikaru at the peak of her voice, her face beaming with the kind of enthusiasm best described as that of a three-year-old having just been presented with a colorful toy.
"Oh, oh, I have a question!" she exclaimed at the kimono-clad figure. "Are all of these..." she turned around, throwing glances at all the wondrous sight in the immediate vicinity, seeming obvious of the presence of her other schoolmates, "...real?"
Before the kimono-clad figure could answer (presumably), the strange voice in her head again spoke, tinted with his own shade of amazement.
"Quite fascinating a display for one whose power draws not from the faith in the Almighty Lord above," he spoke.
Whether or not the kimono-clad spirit could hear this voice, if at all, was entirely up to the vagaries of fate. The other girls and boys, however, most certainly wouldn't.
