Revenge is actively encouraged and supported within my empire. Know what else can't hold a grudge and act on it? Just about anything else that isn't human. Assert your position as the dominant species, take revenge!

Coincidentally, revenge agencies will be very common.

All those who question the sanity of my decrees or the truth of my Dhamma will be subject to execution by sharks with freaking lasers on their heads.

I live Sadhamma and only bring Sadhamma to this world.

Anyone who asserts that cartoons and comics are "just for children" will be subject of painful beatings.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.

@Everyone. I have to question the efficiency of public executions.

Considering how much good it did the Romans and that one Jesus fella.

@Smiling: Well you glorify the executions and it all works out. That Jesus guy had a religious following. Plus in our bloodsports the "contestants" would have their faces hidden somehow so that they get no fame, no glory. No matter who they are the public merely sees more criminal scum dying for their amusement.

Not showing their face, then it won't matter who you kill, thus their executions in public won't deter anyone.

Hey if the public really wants to break the law and find out the hard way what happens to criminals, then let them. They see the bad guys get arrested and put away, and they see convicts die for the amusement of others. It's a pretty good deterrent.

Anyone wanting to listen to Metrostation will be forced to listen to it for 2 weeks straight.

NO BREAKS.

Death works very well, people still get to see that criminals are brutally punished for their crimes, and they are happy because justice is served. You threaten everyone with death if they slip up too much and people are going to think twice before they do slip.

If you want to use death as a deterrent, use it more often, and don't make the criminal wait for years and years.

We didn't make them wait for years before, and there has never been historical precedent for capital punishment constituting an effective criminal deterrent.

Bear in mind that US is one of the few countries with a lengthy processing time for the death sentence: in China, not so much. Not working out so great there either.

As I said, more often, for the smaller crimes too. Psychopaths will do what they want no matter what, but for the more common criminals...well let's see how willing they are to break the law when the death penalty is the punishment for most crimes.

I really don't want to get in a debate about the legal ethics of crime and punishment, but you can't seriously implement legislation that prescribes equal punishment for different levels of crime.

If anything, this will encourage people to commit heavier crimes, because big or small, they still stand to lose the same. If I'm desperate enough to steal a loaf of bread by risking capital punishment, I might just risk robbing a bank instead: the stakes are equally as high.

Lawbreakers will just break the law more if they stand the chance to lose it all for a small crime.

See the great thing about an evil empire is that ethics don't matter. Hell we don't even have to have set rules for what crime gets what punishment. Maaaaybe you'll get your legs sawed off, maaaaybe you'll be killed. Hell if we wanted, we could just spin the wheel of punishment for lower criminals. Best part is though we have fewer repeat offenders, and we don't have to give food and housing to people for years on end.

What you're describing is anarchy.

and when a small band of rebels starts gaining the focus of the public for their call to reason and rules, I will not smile enough.

What I'm describing is a police state that has fun with punishing criminals. Plus, what are the rebels going to offer? Overthrow us and create a power vacuum? Bread and circuses all the way for us, the people won't want anything else because as long as they play by the rules, we're giving them the best they've gotten and the best they can hope to get.

If you don't understand the politics of a bunch of rebels overthrowing your empire, then you don't have the gumption to crack down as hard on the rebels.
