TSIA. Bands that are often compared to each other.

The Who vs. Led Zeppelin

The Beatles Vs. The Rolling Stones

Cream Vs. The Jimi Hendrix Experience

That is not a rivalry, that's bands that are often compared to each other.

An actual rivalry would be the one between Tyler the Creator and Hop Sin. Which I have been unfortunate enough to see become SRZ BSNZ in certain corners of the web.

The rivalries are in the fandoms, actually.

Emmure vs. The Acacia Strain. It's funny because they sound pretty much the same except for the vocals. And there are diss tracks aplenty- Frankie (aka "Thanos Reignz") from Emmure gave us the line "Ask your girl what my dick tastes like". Vince from TAS threatened them with a "vanflip times a thousand".

At the very least, it's entertaining to watch two super-nerdy hardcore kids squabbling like this.

NINJA EDIT: Oh, fandom rivalries. Well, it definitely spilled over into the fandoms.

:wumpscut: Vs. Laetherstrip

...Ironic, considering the fact that the two love one another's work so much. (*Presumably the Fan Dumb doesn't know this*)

in short,

  • El Prodcuto & Def Jux vs. Esoteric & whatever label he's on
  • Aesop Rock vs. Slug (I don't get this one, considering the two are friends)
  • The Game vs. Abso-fucking-lutely everyone
  • The Notorious BIG vs. 2Pac (yes, still. Even though they're both dead for exactly this reason)
  • Vast Aire vs. El Producto
  • Tyler the Creator vs. Hop-Sin/Hopsin/I don't know how to punctuate this. (this one is rather one-sided, though. I don't know if Tyler even knows who Hop is)
  • Li'l B vs. The Entire Internet

more generally

  • Nerdcore with the exception of Mega Ran vs. The Rest of Hip-Hop in its Entirety

Not to mention that Vai actually took lessons from Satch, if I recall correctly.

Most of them you'd have to visit either hip-hop forums or Youtube comments to find. There are dozens more, but those are just off the top of my head.

Oh, another one

  • Eminem vs Royce da 5'9''

it's over, but it still counts. speaking of Eminem

  • Eminem vs Cage Kennylz

What, we can only post fandom rivalries?

Because fuck, Taking Back Sunday vs. Brand New is the perfect example of an actual band rivalry.

Eminem vs Benzino was my favorite rap feud, just because it gave birth to "The Sauce" and "Nail in the Coffin"

Getting into more obscurity there was Anal Cunt versus pretty much everyone.

I'm fairly sure there's a fandom rivalry regarding Iron Maiden vs. Judas Priest.

Duran Duran v. Spandau Ballet is one that comes to mind.

Def Leppard v. Bon Jovi sometimes goes around, but it's not very pronounced.
