If I had to pick my favorite pop album from all time it would be a tie between Psychocandy or Boys for Pele, although I thought Illinoise was probably the best pop album of the last decade.

Are we using Pop in the sense of all that bullshit about "pop aesthetic" or are we just going by the usual definition of "popular stuff"?

Psychocandy is a Jesus and Mary Chain album, so I'd guess it's the former.

Taller Children by Elizabeth & the Catapult.

Actually, my first choice would be Gileah & the Ghost Train's self-titled album, but that may be too rock to qualify.

The self-titled records from both the Stone Roses and the La's. If I were to draw up a favorite-albums list, those two would be the highest-placing records underneath the pop umbrella (allowing for a little bit of leeway with the definition of pop, of course).

Demon Days. I count Gorillaz as pop because nothing else really fits.

Don't they count as hip-hop or rock, although if it's more rock or hip hop depends on the album.

I just don't like subgenres and spin off genres since their's too many, so I have a set of basic genres I cateorgize.

Yeah, genres are kind of dictated by popular use.

Sorry about that.

Anyway.

A good pop album, well, pop at the time (I think, anyway). Would be pretty much any album by Marvin Gaye.

[up]Me too, I was pretty young. Looking back, it actually holds up pretty well - you don't hear that style anymore.
