Yes, as surprising as this sounds, Commissioner Gordon has a son with the name Junior!

In an attempt to avoid lecturing, I'll just let you read about the character here. smile

Well, I didn't know Commissioner Gordon even had a son (Not all of us know everything about a subject, as much as some of us like to think so)! surprised I know that he had Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl (who may or may not be adopted), but I never heard of "little" Junior! It must be that ever-shifting continuity.

I have to say this, the guy could be considered the poster boy for Four Eyes, Zero Soul, complete with this little trick. Some are even saying that Junior could actually be able to one-up The Joker in some ways! Now that's scary!

Nope! Nuh-uh! Never! But I'm guessing Junior made some appearances in those stories?

Still, who would have imagined Junior becoming anything except his father's son?

Commissioner Gordon has had a son at various times throughout Batman continuity. Way back in the Silver Age (even before Barbara was introduced)he had TWO sons. When they first introduced Barbara, they occassionally made referene to James W.Gordon, Jr., and other times they acted as if Barbara was an only child. In Batman: Year One, little James Gordon Jr. was born, and in Batgirl's origin from DC's old Secret Origins series, they retconned Barbara to be Commisioner Gordon's neice, whom he adopted because his brother was a drunk who couldn't take care of her. Right now, I'm not at all sure what the official story is, but they appear to be treating Barbara as Jim's biological daughter, and Jim Jr. is his son and (in what in my opinion is a truly stupid development) some kind of psychopath.

Really, though, if you just Google Commisioner Gordon, or look him up on Wikipedia, you could find most of this stuff out.

I recommend reading it. It may change your mind. It's been the best Batman story in years. Unfortunately, it looks like there's only one other person here who's been reading it.

James was also featured in Scott Snyder's excellent Detective Comics run. Jesus Christ, do the Gordon's have serious skeletons in their closet.

[up]Good stuff, isn't it?

[up][up]Snyder's aim was to make Gotham as big as a villain as the other members of the Rogues Gallery, and who better to reflect that than Gotham's best family?

Ah yes. The star of the comic which made me faint.

The Detective Comics issues are incredibly well done. Disturbing as all get out, but well done. The art is wonderfully stylish, too.

I just read that compilation of Detective Comics issues, titled under "The Black Mirror." You're right: that guy was pretty fucked up.

They brought James Jr. back from the teetering edge of in-out of canon? Hmm...

<Looks him up>

This is interesting... on paper is seems like an extreme twist of cynicism (given TLH and such) and possibly the sort of twist that could go horribly wrong in regards to fandom reaction, but I'm also hearing you guys say that his appearances were actually very well written.

What immediately comes to mind is a wish that they had made his sociopathy something that only started getting bad late in his life, as I'm starting to get a little tired of Batman using the "X who was once a loved one but now a villain was always evil, sadistic, and uncaring towards everyone even when they were kids! They never cared about us at all!" schtick. It kind of belittles the idea that said character was at one point a friend or loved one, even when it does work effectively.

Hmm...

Do you think Big Bad Junior has been affected by the New 52? I think he has been, because I haven't heard anything about him since DC Comics did a relatively big reboot on itself.

And know he is back in Batgirl...

Do normal ponies do that? I don't want to do that unless it is what normal ponies do.
