It's opening the same day as Drive (which got a 15 minute standing ovation at Cannes). Both shall be must sees.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Lion King and the new Nicholas Winding Refn movie on the same day...that'll be a pretty schizo double feature.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.I really wish everyone could see the preview. There is NO way to describe how gorgeous it looks. You have to see it to believe it. I'm sure this isn't the first 3D hand drawn animated film(or is it?) but it's the first one I've seen in action.
None of the visual effects are "come at you" type stuff. It just gives the entire world depth. For instance, Simba's nose protrudes from the screen ever so slightly in certain scenes. Again, not in a way that it's distracting(Like a spike flying at you in some lame 3D horror movie), but in a way that just makes the movie feel more realistic.
Same movie, but in 3D.
Technically it is a remake...but they only thing that's been remade is the animation. It's all still hand drawn 2D, it's just now in Disney Digital 3D.
I can't describe how amazing it looks in motion. It's absolutely beautiful, and I'd give anything for them to do it with The Little Mermaid.
This is likely no different than any other 2D-3D conversion of good quality.
This is how I see the thread:

Fresh-eyed movie blogThis must be a dream for studios. they get to re-release the same movies again (only in 3D), and charge extra for the cinema tickets. Plus, the re-releases are almost guaranteed to make a crap ton of money.

"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs SchneizelActually, The Lion King is ahead of Tangled domestically by over $100 million.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Hmm...I guess they decided to give the thread a misleading title in order to trigger negative reactions.

Well...in a sense, anyways.
Starting September 16th, you can see The Lion King in Disney Digital 3D for two weeks.
The concept of a 3D 2D hand drawn movie sounds stupid, but after watching the preview while seeing the Glee 3D Concert movie, I can tell you it looks beautiful.
So mark your calendars.
