[up][up]We had a "Find Dubstep Remix" thread, but not a real Dubstep thread. And also:

As can clearly be heard here, Dubstep is awesome.

I don't get the classification of Burial as dubstep.

He's awesome (I made our page on him), but it seems to me like the only reason people even call him such is because he's on that Kode9 guy's label.

I'm not sure what I'd call his music, but when I think "Dubstep" I think WUB WUB WUB, not slow-burning music with distorted cyber-vocals.

[up]More comercial Dubstep sounds completely different from the other, earlier stuff. I like both, but there's a lot of Broken Base.

Most forms of dance music are clarified by their drum pattern, not the instrumentation. The wobble is just a popular sound choice in dubstep now adays.

Wiki that shit.

Early dubstep is one of those genres of which I am both extremely fond and unable to recognise a single artist by name.

I think it's amusing there's "old" and "new" Dubstep.

The genre's what like...a decade old? If that?

What makes it more amusing is that the distinction has some validity.

Honestly, I wouldn't call artists like Burial and Skream Dubstep at al. Not sure what I'd call them, but the term's come to mean something different enough that I don't count them as the same.

"Old" dubstep I've oft found redolent of some unholy marriage between trip-hop and dark ambient, two genres which I can at least respect; much "new" dubstep seems just like bad trance at half-speed.

Which is why evolution is a bitch. That, and the absence of giant sloths. I want my free sloth ride!

The two sounds just don't seem all that related to me, which, whatever, I guess.

The beat style's basically identical, but it only has anything to do with dub when you take into account the style and tone of the early stuff (druggy atmosphere, bass-as-melody, phantom sounds, etc.).

I can't believe how long it took me to realize that Pretty Lights uses brostep-style wobbling bass.

So, I found a dubstep song I like.

It's a little too moody/minimal for me, but it's pretty good.
