The surviving creator of Asterix, Albert Uderzo, died today.

Yeouch that's not my favourite page topper

Rest in peace, Uderzo.

Luckily he had already handed the series over to capable hands. It won't mean the end of Asterix.

Oh yeah, that was pretty hilarious. Has nothing to do with the current coronavirus, by the way.

Nothing will ever beat that comic panel on the trope page, though.

In my home country, the movies were shown in parts, so when I was a kid I thought it was a cartoon series.
Yeah, that is what one TV network did in my country as well back in good old 1994. But they would later show us the same movies in their original form as well.

And by the way, let me just cheer about me finally finding a thread here devoted to "Asterix". Yay!

Asterix 3d Animated series directed by Alain Chabat coming in 2023

What, The Big Fight, again? They know there's plenty of these comics that have never had an adaptation yet, don't they?

Also, the animated version of that comic will be hard to beat; that one is my favourite out of the classic animated ones.

Also, an entire series based on just one story seems to stretch the material a bit thin. How many episodes is it going to have?

I think "Asterix Conquers Rome" would have made for a much better subject for a series. You could easily expand that into 12 or more episodes.

If it is a success I would like to think they would do more.

Why not do a series of movies instead? That seems like it would fit the format of the comics better.

I do not mean to convey that Asterix is not profitable. By all means, it seems it consistently pulls ahead of its production cost in box office performance. But not by an overwhelming amount. And as the vested interest is in as much profit as possible in the shortest amount of time possible, it really makes me wonder if Asterix set up as a face-first series may be contentious for investors.

Well, it depends on what the series will be like. Like I said, it kinda sounds like they are stretching the material thin if they're going for just one comic adaptation.

I mainly hope it will be good. I know that Chabat's movie is usually the highest rated of the live action adaptations of Asterix (which by the way does not mean much), but personally I thought it felt more like a Chabat film than an Asterix one. I would have preferred Alexandre Astier to take care of it, as I loved his animated adaptations.

The main flaw of Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra was not that it felt like a Chabat film. It is more that it was all about 2001 French tv references. Which is why it didn't export or age well.

But I think today Chabat will not do that again.

Anyway I am very curious.

Isn't titling this "There Is No Asterix Thread" kinda like saying "I can't believe nobody mentioned..." you know, that thing we're not supposed to write because it became meaningless the moment you mentioned it? Someone might want to change that title — unless this thread was made specifically to complain about how there is no Asterix thread.

It's a bit of a legacy title, probably. There's more older thread titles like that around the forum. I think they're from a time when the rules were a bit looser.
