Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Trailer was fine. Not awesome, just fine. Look, after Blue Swede and a freaking Hulkbuster, its hard to follow up when it comes to Marvel Trailers... I'll probably go see it anyways, cause I for one want to see more niche superheroes getting movies.

Agent Carter was a fantastic expansion of the character. Reminded me very much of the Marvel One Shot that had her.

Which reminds me- is that even canon anymore?

The one shot is still canon. Apparently it's after the series, when Stark's not on the run anymore.

[up]Source?

So, we at least know Peggy kept her job. Her same, boring, sexist job but still better than going to jail.

Also I'm wondering when Bradley Whitford will appear, considering if the one shot is canon.

In the event the show is renewed for additional seasons, they could be set after the One-shot and deal with the founding of SHIELD. But I suppose yes, she doesn't lose her job due to the whole license plate thing.

Why should she? it's not her licence plate after all.

Mr. Sunday Movies on Ant-Man.

Wait, Pierce and Zola are in this or referenced? Sounds like fun. I hope they actually appear. Or at least that Pierce does.

Yeah, I'm getting a Bruce-Terry-Powers vibe from Pym-Lang-Cross.

Today the Peggy Carter focused Operation S.I.N(1, 2 and 3) and the new Ant-Man(1, 2 and 3) comics started.

Even though Agent Carter isn't showing anywhere in Sweden they still sent out emails telling me to tune in and watch it.

Because of the mentorship theme, I keep thinking of a tagline of "The story of how an Ant-Boy became an Ant-Man".

[up][up]It reminds me of a scene in the hypothetical The Flash script, in which Wally, dissatisfied with Barry's pitch, tells him he needs a much more exciting line, like "Be the Flash, bitch."

The line would be very different if he had dropped the "the."

It'd be funny if complains about how other characters get all the cool Animal-Themed Superbeing names but he gets stuck with the Ant.

[up]Holy cow, that teaser is perfect. I'm getting really excited for this. Seems like we've gotten oddly little promotional info about it, though...

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Also, 4/10/15? That's like 3 months from now! And I was expecting it to be later in the summer.

Oh well, I ain't complaining! grin

I'm hoping each season of Peggy Carter enjoys time skip and at some point we get to see the sixties in the MCU, with Hank Pym and Janet in their primes.

I just think the MCU could benefit from the same rigorous alternative history that the FoX-Men 'verse does.

An article on the Ant-Man prequel book about Cold War-era Hank Pym. And apparently there will be an Age of Ultron prequel about Loki's scepter.

I'm assuming you live in a country where dates are written in a rational manner?

Anyways, with the new release date being about 2 months before the old one, I'll have to assume the events of Daredevil don't tie in with the events of Age of Ultron after all. That may of been part of the reason they are bumping up the release date, it might of just been a case where they weren't sure they'd have it done before May and didn't want to risk delaying it.
